Tamaki Tsuru, a freshman at Aonagi University, was overzealous about volleyball when she was in high school. Following a romantic rejection due to being an athletic girl, she joined the tennis club in college to be less athletic. One day, she accidentally hits Daisuke with a tennis ball as he was transporting a glider, causing damage to it. Tamaki was charged with a repair cost of two million yen, but as she couldn't pay the amount, she joins the sports association aviation club as a helper.
Ozawa serialized the aviation-themed manga in Monthly Comic@Bunch magazine from April 2015 to November 2017. Shinchosha published the fifth and final volume in February 2018. Although the manga concluded with a rushed development with the end denoting "Part 1," a sequel has yet to be published.

Wow, just found out that this manga'll be getting a movie! As an avid real life glider pilot (of few flight hours, unfortunately), I found the manga beautifully done in depicting the wonder of the sport and how the MC was so drawn in (I can pretty much attest to her experience.) I really liked that they kept it realistic too - technicalities incl safety/work required, so no crazy 'super' moves and the like (ala sports anime.) The manga art style matches the story perfectly, the trailer looks amazing! The MC finds her own niche - nice enough character progress in her despite the short serialization. I personally found the ending to be too abrupt though... I think it doesn't really need a sequel for its plot, though I wouldn't say no to more gliding manga/anime! Anyhow, I'm definitely looking forward to the movie.
Btw, the 'blue' in the title refers to a gliding term - 'blue thermals' are thermals (rising warm air which glider pilots make use of to soar, which power pilots avoid) on a 'blue day' - in a cloudless sky. Generally, clouds suggest the position of thermals, so you don't have this clue on blue days (which btw don't always yield 'useable' thermals) - they're there, but you can't 'see' them with the most obvious clues (clouds).

The word Seishun (Youth) is written with the Kanji for "Blue" and "Spring". The blue refers to that. Thats why, the Japanese also sometimes read it as "Aoharu" (blue spring). Anyone knows Ao Haru Ride? Thats the reason for the title. Basically, the Japanese considers blue as the color that represent or is closely associated with youth
That is actually one of the most interesting things i didn't know that i read in a while.

"Following a romantic rejection due to being an athletic girl, she joined the tennis club in college to be less athletic." what does that even mean? how is a volleyball player gonna become less athletic by switching to tennis? That's one of the most physically straining sports.
Tennis club in Japanese universities is kinda seen as a venue for gatherings and popularity. Tennis has a reputation (whether true or not) of a lot of people joining for the social aspect without too much of practicing the actual sport, just retrieving balls and general support/helping out the members who actually are seriously practicing. It's pretty popular for girls especially (hence why this MC wants to join to seem more feminine) so sometimes guys are interested in joining to meet women

If anyone's read this, I guess their hopes for a sequel might rest on this movie.
To the people who read this manga : Is it any good ? Seems like an incredibly cliche shoujo set-up if I'm being honest, although its listed as a seinen.
