'Toaru Majutsu no Index' Gets New Light Novel Series in February 2020
Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index will be the third installment in the action fantasy series. The original novel, Toaru Majutsu no Index, was released between April 2004 and October 2010 under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. Kamachi began penning the sequel—Shinyaku Toaru Majutusu no Index (A Certain Magical Index: New Testament)—in March 2011, which ended with 23 volumes on July 10 this year.
J.C.Staff produced three anime seasons in Fall 2008, Fall 2010, and Fall 2018, entirely covering the first novel series. An original anime film written by Kamachi titled Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki (A Certain Magical Index: The Miracle of Endymion) premiered in 2013. The novel also inspired several specials and video games.
Yen Press licensed the original light novel series in English in November 2014 and will release the 21st volume on December 17. Funimation licensed the anime series for home video release in North America and will ship the second and final Blu-ray and DVD of the third season on January 7, 2020.
Toaru Majutsu no Index has ranked in the top ten of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!'s best light novel category eight times since 2011, most recently placing ninth this year. According to Dengeki Bunko, the light novel series has sold over 31 million copies.

TBH, I don't think it's too hard to picture - a lot of anime/manga have been running longer than Index.

Damn, this is never going to end. Congratulations to the fans of the franchise!
I’ve a feeling the anime adaption has lost steam too, I don’t think J.C. Staff is going to go for another three-four seasons to cover the second novel let alone adapt this so hopefully I’ll make up my mind and actually read this.
they'll adapt shinyaku if Railgun T sales reach the target..
maybe we will finally find out who number 6 is
yeah, i hope that so

Uhhh well I heard somewhere that the editor or author said that this novel will hit the 100 volumes so this was expected
That's pretty insane. I just checked the last novel. They released 23 volumes in 8, which is roughly 3 per year.
If we follow the same pattern, then it's over 30 years for 100 volumes.
