Synopsis
Hole—a dark, decrepit, and disorderly district where the strong prey on the weak and death is an ordinary occurrence—is all but befitting of the name given to it. A realm separated from law and ethics, it is a testing ground to the magic users who dominate it. As a race occupying the highest rungs of their society, the magic users think of the denizens of Hole as no more than insects. Murdered, mutilated, and made experiments without a second thought, the powerless Hole dwellers litter the halls of Hole's hospital on a daily basis.

Possessing free access to and from the cesspool, and with little challenge to their authority, the magic users appear indomitable to most—aside for a few. Kaiman, more reptile than man, is one such individual. He hunts them on a heedless quest for answers with only a trusted pair of bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to restoring his life to normal. With his biggest obstacle being his stomach, his female companion Nikaidou, who runs the restaurant Hungry Bug, is his greatest ally.

Set in a gritty world of hellish design, Dorohedoro manages a healthy blend of comedy and lightheartedness with death and carnage. Taking plenty of twists and turns while following the lives of Hole's residents, it weaves a unique world of unearthly origin and dreary appearance not for the squeamish or easily disturbed. PV

Dorohedoro originally debuted in Monthly Ikki in 2000 before switching to HiBaNa in 2015 due to the former discontinuing its serialization. The manga then transferred to Gessan when HiBaNa ceased publishing in August 2017 and ended in the magazine's October issue on September 12 last year. Shogakukan shipped the 23rd and final compiled volume on November 12.

VIZ Media began publishing the manga digitally on its SigIkki website in 2009, the former online English edition of the Ikki magazine. Physical volumes have been published under the distributor's VIZ Signature imprint since 2010, and the 23rd and final volume went on sale on September 17.

I have not read the manga but this trailer looks half decent, i hope they don´t abuse the use of CG, at least the art looks amazing for sure, love that gritty look.

Haven't read the manga, but heard lots of good things about it. I'm loving the punk aesthetics of the show. The 2D-3D artstyle actually looks decent, kinda like Inuyashiki.

Ugh, Kobayashi Yuu as Noi...I hate her :/

Well, it's probably going to be a terrible adaption anyway.

CG looks ok but I think I am just gonna read the manga instead. Not to mention that it being a MAPPA show probably means the production will crash and burn few episodes in.

I predicted dP but MAPPA isn't bad choice at all if I remember Garo:VL, RoB(& sequels), or even BF had consistent strong animation but just assuming all those animators was working on this adaptation when Dororo was airing.
I think the cgi and character designs looks fitting imo, makes the tone perfect and hence there won't be no tonal clash. Now all is need to know how many episodes. The staff are at least competent (honestly no one could make Kakegurui better than it was given how broken premise was!) and especially excited to see Shinji Kimura's art direction because all of his works I watched were so masterpiece and just as far anime can go.

Looks incredibly intriguing! I’ve never read it but I’ve enjoyed almost everything MAPPA has put out recently so I’ll probably check this out. And it’s great hearing Wataru Tagaki.

Holy shit I’ve been waiting for any kind of news on this show since it got an announcement. Fuck yeah glad to know it’s coming this winter. And it’s from studio MAPPA? cgi don’t look bad to me either.

CGI was expected for this series, but this actually looks quite nice. The background art actually nails the gritty look of the manga. Some of it looks a bit too clean, but most of it looks perfect. Character animation is a 2D-3D hybrid, similar to MAPPA's Inuyashiki. The music in the PV is actually amazing!! And Wataru Takagi is perfect as Kaiman. His voice was in my mind whenever I read Kaiman's lines in the manga.

yeah my only concern is the director. I don't really know him.

So-so, i think. I don't mind CGI, but for Dorohedoro i would like more classical approach in animation. But maybe anime will prove me wrong. Also Takagi Wataru for me is not a great choice for Kaiman.

cgi doesn't look that bad. can't wait to watch it.

Well, now that my excitement for this anime has died, I guess I'll just stick to reading the manga sometime in the future.

Looks awful. Shinji Kimura's background art ist the only redeeming thing about that.

Will this be a complete adaptation?

Oct 11, 2019 5:06 AM by D8cbeidnd7dne

even with that half CG it looks good enough

Honestly I was kinda excited until I saw the PV... it kinda looks like half animation-half CG.

Kaiman with Okuyasu's voice is kinda hilarious.
