Damn, Konosuba is slowing down. It seems that KonoSuba averages on 80-90k per volume while only the first 3 volumes reached 100k sales.

After the second season or so, will KonoSuba be able to reach at least 150-200k sales benchmark?

I don't think it's possible. Even the mainstream SAO series only reached 260k sales mark for its volume 18 before it dropped out of ranking. Selling 75-80k on average is pretty much an achievement because it was promoted with 10 episodes of low budget animation.

Even Re:Zero, with a highly budgeted 26 length episode anime that grabbed 90% of anime community, only sold 63k sales for volume 10 before dropped out of ranking. So KonoSuba is definitely a success, even if it won't reach 150-200k sales like SAO. I hope that the second season can grab a few more fans, but it definitely won't double the amount they have right now to 150k sales. At most it would be 100k, which is around DanMachi and Overlord's level of success.

Hmm you're right. Based on the previous ranking list, KonoSuba only reaches ~50k sales before being dropped out of the list. I really doubt that the limited edition would reach 25k sales to make it a total of 75k+ sales like vol. 1-8 + 10.

So is it the reason why most season 3 anime never comes? Because the light novels rarely reranks again? If most licensing company knows that season 2 would never get their light novel reranked again (like Oregairu and SAO), then why bother making a season 2 in the first place? Not that I'm against having anime season 2, but I'm simply curious. Because if season 1 can do ~75k sales on average, and that season 2 are almost unhelpful to the sales, then why is there a season 2 (from a company's perspective)? I've always thought that anime always make losses in their industry with the absurd high amount of BD/DVD.

You also need to take into account that Vol. 9's limited edition sold almost 18k sales before dropped out of ranking with a price of 7-8x more than the normal edition. So the total revenue is much higher and not as bad as you might think.

And yeah... it's exactly why most anime won't get a season 3 with a few exception like.... Highschool DxD because their BD/DVD sold pretty well to warrant another season, combined with the amount of merchandising they have (figures, pillows, etc). I don't expect KonoSuba to have a season 3 for these reasons, but I sure hope that it would sell better than season 1 and may warrant a third season.

Actually KonoSuba is speeding up. Volume 9 didn't reach this sales figure from the weekly rankings. Admittedly this volume has had a couple more days on the rankings, but it is just a couple of days, so we can be pretty much certain that volume 10 is selling faster than volume 9 did. Unless volume 9's LE actually sold a significant number after disappearing from the rankings - but that is basically unheard of.

As for the second season, I suppose it's possible that the first volume will reach those sorts of sales if it reranks. It's worth pointing out that reranking from a second season is extremely rare. OreGairu volume 1 did it for three weeks, and SAO volume 6 did it for one, but I think those are the only cases of it ever happening. There's no way it will be selling those sorts of amounts with new volumes, though.

You've hit the nail on the head. Only light novel adaptations which will make enough money on their own will usually get more than a first season as the readership rarely improves much after the first season. If the anime discs sell enough (Konosuba did), if the streaming sells enough, if the merch sells enough (Konosuba merch is quite popular) then you can get a 2nd season. If THAT second season itself sells well enough then you might get a third. Most shows drop quite a bit season after season. A rare exception WAS High School DxD which got the same sales in the first two seasons but the 3rd season was pretty awful so it dropped some. I guess they are hoping that was an anomaly.

I see Kimi No Na Wa on top(again). There really must be nothing worth reading over there huh? It literally looks like you average romance novel. *shrugs shoulders*(I feel like I said this before)

*6. 11,165 *,*11,165 High School DxD DX Vol.3

Good for 2 days sales, not really a good comparison for this and previous volumes as both vol 1 and 2 had separate LE and RE releases, this just RE. Hoping it can finish around the 35-40K before going below the cutoff which wasn't far off the combined sales last time I think.

Kamisato really killed the series.
Is he even worst than High Priest though? Haven't read past his first appearance where he offed most of True Gremlin member.

Though if I can blame someone I'll blame Kamachi who make this spiraling out of control by adding character on each volume which is more than he can handle.
