Did you check the best BL light novel in Japan? Junai Romantica was the last. XD

I'm trying to check every week! xD
I just saw in your topic! It surprise me because this year we have so much Sekaiichi Hatsukoi novels in this ranking, I thought Junai also were better placed.

Oh sorry, that one was for 2015! Best BL manga/light novel for 2016 will be out soon.

Shinkai sounds surprised but someone decided to put Kimi no Na Wa out in many theaters. His previous movies had been limited releases but perhaps they should have been more widely shown? Was it just luck that it turned into a hit this time? Or did someone see it and realize that it would be a big hit? I'm not sure but if his next movie is good and is played in many theaters then it too could do well.

I think Byosoku 5cm deserved more acclaim for its stories and Kotonoha no Niwa deserved more mention for it's animation. Kimi no Na Wa brought it all together and eclipsed both of them. I don't think he should have been so surprised by its success but he was likely too close to it to notice how good it was. I look forward to his next movie and novel.

From what i read Toho wanted a successful movie for their Animation department and they contacted Shinkai for that, They were aiming for 2 Billion and even said that the budget was kept pretty low and they were planning to cut the number of theaters before its release so being this big was a surprise for everyone.

Success can be a double edged sword though Miyazaki never matched the performance of Spirited Away either but he kept on trying and I hope Shinkai keeps on making more films too, even though it is possible they may never surpass the sales or acclaim of Kimi no Na Wa. I love his movies and hope he keeps exploring his themes.
That was answered above. It was supposed to come out on the 25th but some stores start selling novels early on the weekend so it is not a full week of sales by any means. Will be higher next week.

The thing is, Miyazaki has done many wildly successful movies WAAAAAAAAY before Spirited away came along. He was much more well known and accepted in the society than Shinkai was before Kimi no na wa, even tho he got good response from little audiences before it.

But ye, I also love his movies (I still haven't seen this one, waiting for better quality) and hoping that his appeal and creativity wont stop where they are already.

I've read that Shinkai is already working on the new movie which should come out in the next 3 years, tho there ain't any news if its a sequel or not (which I doubt)

But I think that much of a success this movie was might backstab him, because of now very high standards made for him. He even told that himself, that he doesn't feel like he deserves such sudden overwhelming response from the audience, and it might even damage his future career...
Hell, it's now on ¥16.41 billion ($159.8 million) and 9th highest grossing movie of all time, and it's not the end, it might reach 6th or even 5th place, it means challenging Princess Mononoke (¥19.30 billion, at the end of November). This is insane, and definitely a two-edged sword for Shinkai...

Have not seen the anime Kimi no Na wa, but the sales are just incredible. Does anyone know if the ReZero volume 10 are pre-orders or actual sales?

Ahh okay. I saw the person mention it, but I wasn't sure if what he said was confirmed or just his misunderstanding.

@Toshizou I'd love a sequel but I think there is 0% chance of one. Either that or it will be a SOL romance spinoff which I'd LOVE to see but it would actually be the opposite of Shinkai's themes so I don't see it happening unless it is done against his will.

Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records will probably get a boost by the time the anime airs as well.

The Kimi no Na wa. novels are doing very well as usual, might get back into the novels again (only having read the first two chapters so far).

This must be a slow moment in sales. What is special about this "Kimi No Na Wa"? Its just another romance thing that takes place in school like a lot others right? Or is it just a new thing that will become a fad?

Kimi No Na Wa is a huge hit in Japan 'cause of the recent movie hence why it sells. It doesn't(okay maybe at the start it does) revolve around school tho and it has its "twist". imo it's nothing special but that's probably just my shit taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TheHatredDMC
I disagree, I think it's really special. I've been a fan of Shinkai's work for years and this one is, so far, the culmination of his work, a masterful refinement of his themes. I think it is an spectacular movie based upon an amazing story. I can see why it has sold so many movie tickets and novels so far. I just can't say enough about this one. It made me rethink every other 10 I've ever given out (I do give out way too many 10s but this made me think the rest should all be taken down at least 1 peg).

@Toshizou I'd love a sequel but I think there is 0% chance of one. Either that or it will be a SOL romance spinoff which I'd LOVE to see but it would actually be the opposite of Shinkai's themes so I don't see it happening unless it is done against his will.

Are there Mitsuha and Taki dakimakura for sale? I never thought to check... I only see T shirts, novels and the RADWIMPS album out so far. A missed opportunity in merchandising for sure.
