That awful index sales is a testament for them that it needs another anime adaptation, asap.

Lol Index really needs to end soon, for its own sake.

This. I don't want it to end like Bleach.

It's already like Bleach, if not worse.

It's a shame, really.

Sanzensekai no Karasu wo Koroshi never heard of it but underrated scifi making into rankings which means it is good.

I'm not surprised that the Index volume sells gets lower with every new release. Still glad it's at the top this week though.

Also, Legend is quite an underrated series.

Nov 18, 2016 3:00 PM by Stark700

Is it really surprising that Index sales are falling? I mean, it's the 39th volume for goodness' sake, people may have gotten tired of it. :P
Also, it's been ages since the sales-boosting anime ended.

By the way, what's that SAO alternative thing?

Nov 18, 2016 1:04 PM by Askorti

lmao I didn't even know the new Index volume was out yet

Anyways it'll be a miracle if it can remain 2nd for 10 weeks straight.

Being beaten by precisely one thing for 10 consecutive weeks? That would be hilarious. Not going to happen, though.

MoshiDora held 3rd place for 7 weeks of an 8 week period once. I think that's the only time anything's come remotely close to doing something like that.

Ah. I just thought that if after it holds the first place 11-12 weeks in a row, if it can do the same for the second place that'll be a miracle. At least it's still selling pretty well.

Incidentally, I'm a complete idiot. Obviously the best selling ongoing series that isn't fantasy, sci-fi or mystery is OreGairu. The fact that it hasn't had a new volume since June last year and has none planned for the near future made me not think of it earlier... =\

Well, I can understand why OreGairu so popular.

@Toshiya_K - vol 15 at least should be on the year end rankings, which several of the figures for earlier volumes are taken from. That will boost it above volume 14's sales. Vol 16 might be on there as well, depending on how good its long tail is. But yes, the series is definitely in a steep decline. Then again quite a few series have seen sales drop away fairly steeply recently. I wonder what the ebook sales trend (which aren't included in Oricon's data) would look like.

Do not know what Eromanga-sensei is so popular, I after reading the first volume did not notice anything special. In any case, by mystery you mean title with detective part?

Stuff like the Q series, Boukyaku Tantei series, Biblia, Bungaku Shoujo, GOSICK, Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, Sakurako-san, possibly the Kotenbu series...

Thank you, now I understand. In general, I am surprised that now the romance in his purest form is easier find among manga than in the most popular light novell.

If you take a broader definition of what constitutes fantasy it pretty much always has been. You get scifi stuff (Accel World and even Mahouka are really more sci-fi than they are fantasy) and mysteries (usually under labels that are borderline to light novel status), and spin-offs of things from other media - and the occasional yaoi hit - but the brief period where series like Haganai and OreImo could become standalone megahits with no fantasy, sci-fi or mystery elements was very much the exception in light novel history, not the norm.
Indeed, today's biggest series that would fall under this grouping are Imouto Sae Ireba Ii. and Eromanga-sensei, written by the same authors as Haganai and OreImo respectively. SaeKano isn't far behind them, though.

Kimi no Na wa took 2nd for the 2nd week :(

Was hoping it to bounce back to first :|

Anyways it'll be a miracle if it can remain 2nd for 10 weeks straight.

This needs more sales

You have something against Kimi no Na wa? Wow.....

Absolutely nothing, it's just pretty boring when the same thing is in the 1st place every single week for so long, seeing something new is better.

Nov 17, 2016 5:30 AM by joe_g7

Seeing Index at the top makes me a happy man.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out top next week. There are a few reasonably big series out but they're all out at the end of the week. The two things that beat Kimi no Na Wa. in last week's ranking both came out last week... Coffee-ten Talleyrand no Jikenbo is still able to beat KnNw. on the daily rankings but Index isn't. GA Bunko's top release couldn't beat KnNw/CtTnJ on its day of release so not much chance there. Could Kimi no Na wa. return to the top? There are a couple of things that look very likely to beat it on the bunko ranks but they aren't even close to being light novels.

Oh, and in case anyone's interested, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child sold 317,078 copies in the week covered by this thread.

Iris volume and konosuba sold less than prev week?! Damn you jap.

You do know that's normal, right? Something with nothing giving it an active boost will basically never sell more in one full week of sales than it did in a previous full week.

RobertBobert said:
If Konosuba is sold so quickly, I'm afraid even to imagine how to grow sales after the launch of the second season.

By the way, today is really almost all most popular light novell is fantasy ?
