It has been announced that mangaka Osamu Akimoto will start four new manga series after the end of his Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo (abbreviated Kochikame) manga series. The new series will be published in Young Jump, Grand Jump, Ultra Jump, and Jump SQ, respectively. While each series will feature a female main character, it was mentioned that the main character for the series published under Young Jump magazine will be a high school girl.

Osamu Akimoto is widely known for his Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo manga, which will end its 40-year long serialization on September 17. The manga, which began serialization in 1976, has received various adaptations, including a 373-episode TV anime adaptation that was broadcast between 1996 and 2004. The series has also received both TV and movie live-action adaptations. The series recently received the Guinness World Record for most volumes published for a single manga series. A new TV special, titled Ryoutsu Kankichi Saigo no Hi, will air on September 18.

It's nice to see authors who were'nt burned by their super long manga series and don't seem lazy (I'm looking at you, Toriyama).

But it could take a long time before we actually see the start of all those series (who aren't really a lot for someone who made his career with a weekly manga), I am still waiting for Kishimoto's space adventure tale.

@Nanaca What is this comic ?!

After 40 years of focusing on one manga and finally finishing it, this guy intends to create FOUR at the same time?! Geez, I hope his health doesn't fail....

Dang, I thought ht'd take a long break after Kochikame. This guy is insane. :O

At those who wonder how he is going to make four series: In another source, I found them described as short series. I don't know if that is true, but it would be pretty logical that he just does one after another. Also, two of those magazines are monthly, one is biweekly. If he starts now to write the series(And I think this is a possibility. He never took even one week off in 40 years, I don't think he even knows how to take a break), he will have a good backlog of work until next year.

How is he going to manage making four series at the same time??

Good god, I was surprised that he would even draw another series... and not just one, but FOUR???

I think the four mangas are all one-shoot. Maybe he wants to see which one is the most popular among the readers.

"Four new manga series" as in serialisation.

Let's just hope it won't end the same way, despite all the signs...

What a beast. After drawing the same thing for 40 years he still doesn't want to put the pen down. If I was him I'd definitely just retire, he has nothing left to prove, but if he's that passionate about drawing manga, then I wish him the best of luck.

If guys in his ages can do something like that, then Miura and Togashi should not have any problem with it either xd (Togashi has his well-known health problems though)

Congrats! I'm glad he's still working on projects with passion and interest.
