The official site for Weekly Shounen magazine has announced that Shinobu Kaitani's new manga, titled Muteki no Hito, will start serialization in the combined fourth and fifth issue of the magazine, to be released on December 22. The first chapter will consist of a colored cover and 66 pages. The story features the characters Mizuki Murata, who lost his emotions in a car accident, but in return gained an extremely good memory, and his rival Junbei Sonokawa. It will be the first manga in 10 years to have relations to the mahjong game and be serialized in Weekly Shounen magazine.

Shinobu Kaitani is the author of both One Outs and Liar Game. The former, which was serialized in Business Jump magazine between November 14, 1998 and August 15, 2006 with a total of 20 published volumes, received a 25-episode anime adaptation by Madhouse in 2008. Liar Game ended on January 22 of this year with a total of 19 volumes, after being serialized in Young Jump magazine since February 17, 2005. Shinobu Kaitani is also the recipient of the 42nd Tezuka Award for his manga Mou hitori no boku. His other notable work includes Sommelier, which was serialized in Manga Allman magazine in 1995.

It will be THE MANGAKA's first manga in 10 years. And it's about mahjong game.

No, he started two other manga in 2008 and 2011. I think it means it's the first mahjong manga to be published in Weekly Jump in 10 years? Not entirely sure though.

Anyway, he's clearly a big fan of Fukumoto.

Thus if you want to experience the full story in English you have to watch the anime first and then pick up the manga from chapter 82 or so and keep reading until the end

I was pretty surprised too when I found out but yeah

The anime just ends at a random point but not rage-inducing, so anyone who's interested in One Outs follow this ^

@Baitdragon Do you not check your replies in the rec thread? I gave the same answer lol

One Outs and Liar Game are one of my favorite manga. I love this mangaka.

I also watched Akagi and loved it without knowing any rules of Mahjong.

This is also the first time for me reading a work of Shinobu when it's publishing, I hope it won't turn out less enjoyable. :/

Adapting Liar Game would be quite hard, for those who read it know how much text and explanation this manga has. It sometimes took a whole chapter to explain the rules of a new game.

I was really excited, but

I'll still check it out, but hopefully it won't be too much of a problem. Though, I usually wanna know everything that's going on when I watch a sports anime or something like this.

Btw does anyone know where to read the missing volumes of One Outs
As far as I know, nowhere. The guy who translated the manga intentionally skipped a bunch because the anime covered that part, so he picked up the manga translation from the point where the anime leaves off instead. Thus if you want to experience the full story in English you have to watch the anime first and then pick up the manga from chapter 82 or so and keep reading until the end

I was pretty surprised too when I found out but yeah

I sure hope that this gets as popular as Tetsuya did so we can have a mahjong boom like when Hikaru no Go made go popular for a while.

The main character sounds kind of like Kei from Tohai though. I hope that the author innovates some and distinguishes this series from other mahjong manga.

Seriously I've been waiting for Liar Game to get an anime for years... it has to happen... waiting patiently...
