So much for the industry apparently dying when news broke out that manglobe was bankrupt, eh fellas? Dang Nabbit

So much for summer sales being low, darn I guess we'll have to wait until this season is over, maybe the industry will die then? *fingers crossed*

dem Love Live tho, just as expected...
Glad for JoJo, Part 4 might actually come in the near future and Prison School is selling quite well but it would be great if it sells just a little bit more to guarantee another season.

I forgot to post this last week, but Oricon does not cover the UtaPri live concert discs for some reason, which means these sales are from Soundscan. The thresholds at Soundscan are much higher than at Oricon, so of course the sales will be a few thousand higher than this. The 4th live concert disc was released on Sep 24th by the way.

The first week sales reiterates the gradual shift of female buyers from the DVD format to the BD format, but it also shows that the fanbase has grown somewhat since the 3rd concert.

Live Concerts
巻数 初動 2週計 累計 発売日
      BD(DVD) BD(DVD) BD(DVD)
LIVE1 **,***(23,337) **,***(26,636) **,***(26,636) 12.05.31 [DVD only]
LIVE2 **,***(24,917) **,***(29,679) **,***(29,679) 13.04.26 [DVD only]
LIVE3 21,913(20,026) 25,321(23,712) 25,321(23,712) 14.06.05 ※合計 49,033枚
LIVE4 26,191(18,002) **,***(**,***) **,***(**,***) 15.09.24 ※合計 44,193枚

Soundscan numbers for Sep 28~Oct 4 are not out yet, so the 4th concert sales are not updated yet.

What are you talking about? It never reached #1 on Amazon last week (the highest it's been is #6 for around a day), so these sales are about what it is supposed to be selling, with the missing sales being added back for the 2nd week.

It was near the top for the whole week, and this

1st place amongst anime is not equal to 1st place overall at Amazon. As I said the highest it reached overall last week was 6th at Amazon for just 1 day, and it spent the majority of the time between rank 11 and 20, so it was not selling thousands of discs per day as you may be thinking.

Look at its ranking history here (I did not include the Amazon edition, because it was ranking much much worse last week, so its sales for last week were pretty insignificant compared to the normal Limited Edition):

Let's hope the last volume for JoJo will include some kind of teaser for Part 4, just like the previous one.

Tokyo Ghoul Jack is surprisingly selling somewhat good. Hmm, I did not expect that at all.

In reality what people say is that any Madhouse anime that isn't a Light Novel doesn't sell.

This is still true given that Overlord is a light novel.

Or we could just go with the studio being irrelevant when it comes to sales.

Not saying that is. Just what people say about Madhouse, and the fact that Overlord doesn't proves nothing.

I just hope Symphogear GX won't beat Nanoha StrikerS. Overall not bad week. Gate, Overlord and JoJo are selling decently.

why is Love Live worshipped by the masses
not that I've watched/played it but still

One of the most effective solid brainwashing campaigns ever devised. Though in all seriousness it's an almost AKB48 like execution on the anime scene. Whereas AKB48 got by on the idea of idols you can meet Love Live's main gimmick is that the fans got to design a lot of aspects of the brand including the group names, the sub-units, the centers for certain singles, some aspects of their personalities and vote in popularity contests which were then collected as data by researchers and focus groups at Bandai who fed and sold it back to Japan in the form of Muse and now Love Live Sunshine.

With the brand integration of cell phone games, music, live concerts with the voice actors acting as their characters and the anime all pretty much pinpoint targetted at otaku's moe weakpoint (At least one character is virtually guaranteed to trigger anybody) the result is them emptying their wallets over the idea that they are supporting their beloved waifus. It's the closest I've seen an anime come to convincing it's fans that it's cast really does exist and they are tangible.

It's very cunning really, but is probably going to leave a lot of people without strong will and the common sense to budget poor and destitute.

2014 Oricon Yearly Top 10 Overall Series Ranking (2013/12/09~2014/12/07)
*2 ¥11,051,200,000 Manga Shingeki no Kyojin
*3 ¥*7,253,400,000 Manga ONE PIECE
*4 ¥*6,143,500,000 Anime Gundam
*5 ¥*5,371,600,000 Anime Love Live!
*6 ¥*5,229,700,000 Manga Kuroko no Basket
*7 ¥*5,151,200,000 Manga Haikyuu!!
*8 ¥*4,763,800,000 Light Novel <Monogatari>Series
*9 ¥*4,618,300,000 *Game Youkai Watch
10 ¥*4,291,800,000 Manga Tokyo Ghoul

This does not report things like merchandise sales, only media otherwise I know for a fact from reading Bandai Namco's annual earnings report that Gundam made about 80 billion yen give or take. It's not the most popular anime related brand in Japan though. Tokyo Ghoul I never realized was quite that popular, no wonder they're coveting it and trying to turn it into a hit cell phone game.

Eek total cleansweep for Lantis idols between the Love Live Blu-Ray and iDOLM@STER CD's. Both sold about the same number of copies, but what's crazy is the Love Live one was priced at 19,500 yen or about $160 USD.

Well, the Love Live BD-BOX contains both days of the 5th live concert, consisting of over 8 hours (Day 1 = 247 mins, Day 2 = 244 mins) of concert footage. Compare that to say a standard 1 cour anime series for around 44,000 yen and only getting like 4 to 5 hours of content, and i'd say that's pretty damn good value. Also, it isn't quite as equal footing, since as you said, Love Live BD is 19,500 yen while the Idolmaster CD is only around 2000 yen.

Well I know for Love Live fans it's a must. They're of the coveted "buy everything" breed of customer that I've only known a few franchises to attract en masse. The brand loyalty is immensely strong which is why I'm curious to see if belongs to the Muse label or Love Live label next week with Sunshine. I think that PV might be able to do some damage, it's very very polished animation wise and goes on for 7 minutes making it I believe the longest in franchise history.

Love live is unstoppable. I"m not as huge a fan as some, but I enjoyed the anime seasons.

A pretty successful turnout for Symphogear as well. Overall a good season and glad to see the success there.

At least Overlord is now properly represented on that list. A good result for them.
