Voice Actress Yuuko Gotou Goes on Hiatus Due to Autoimmune Disease

According to the VA studio axl-one, VA Yuuko Gotou, known primarily for characters such as Mikuru Asahina (Suzumiya Haruhi) and Hiro (Hidamari x Sketch), has received another doctor stop, and will be going on hiatus again for intensive treatment for an autoimmune disease occurring in her heart, lung and vessels. The expected length of the hospitalization will be at least for two and a half months. She had a similar disease when she was in the junior high school and once was told by a doctor that she wouldn't be able to go to high school.

A previous announcement on May 7, 2010 was made regarding her hiatus for a throat surgery, which she recovered from on June 3, 2010.

There has been a rising concern about the productions of Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb and Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II, but no official announcement has been made.

The VA studio states that they will make further discussions with the doctor and announce her recovery as soon as possible.

Todays news say that it looks like she can leave hospital in August. Good to hear that she is recovering from her disease.

Ugh, autoimmune disease is one of the worst diseases you can have. Although a lot of people have it, it becomes really damn dangerous if it affects certain organs heavily.

But, heart? Lung? Ouch. It's hard to say it like this, but.. you can't heal that disease. You can hope to get a therapy working which reduces the effectiveness of the immune system. But that's obviously problematic in itself.

In one way it would be better to replace her roles in upcoming anime. On the other hand.. even though you have that sickness you still have to live. And work. It's so complicated. But depending on how bad the illness is by now.. well, I don't want to jinx it.

Autoimmune diseases are scary since it's a leading cause of death for females so I wish her well.
