| I keep it friends only. The environment is more hostile than it was a decade ago, so that's a decent compromise. Also my list is more like a graveyard and I've forgotten over half what I had there. You couldn't really tell what I'm into in the more recent times. |

| I've seen that before myself as well and always find it completely pointless whenever I come across it, yes. I don't understand any real meaningful reason why the person in question would actually care whether or not other people know or look at which anime series and so on they've watched. Who cares? This is a stereotype, but the image in my head of people who do that is always someone with anxiety disorder or an inferiority complex. It reminds me of the same mentality and type of person who deletes their posts or entire threads (I see it more on other forums and message boards, such as Reddit) whenever they receive negative replies. I think some people just don't want/can't handle any risk of negative feedback in any capacity and are super private to a fanatical extent for this reason. Generalized anxiety would at least be a "logical" reason. But it's a very foreign and alien mindset to me, being honest. I can see being this private and restrictive in real life with people you actually have to physically interact with daily who may create consequences for you in some way if they know too much about you and your predilections and habits in your school, work, neighborhood, etc. and that's a completely separate thing in my mind. But doing so online with anonymous strangers in a virtual space seems needless. |

Some might be embarrassed by their own tastes others might not want other users to look at their lists simply because they don't want to be judged in one way or another. I presume the real reason why many users hide their list is out of paranoia to prevent from just being ridiculed for whatever numerous reasons by others. Otherwise no one would take the time to do so. Either way it's their profile and their lists. So it's really up to the user to decide if they wish to share what they have been watching or not with the community. |

| i used to have it restricted because i hate talking about anime to other people on this site on my profile. its annoying and no one here wants to have a civil convo And because in the beginning i only cared about keeping track of my animes and rating them for myself, i didnt care about the social aspect of it |
