THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I like how everyone works their best for the aquarium during the end of their Summer. Kukuru's determination truly is admirable.

Plus, she brings together a collective spirit that everyone can enjoy at the aquarium. As usual, we got some surreal dream-like water scenes animated by PA Works.

Not going to lie, this episode got me hungry lol

WELP, the news is out: the aquarium is set to close.

The start of the impending big problem for Gama Gama Aquarium: how to attract people to visit the aquarium. And for one, Kukuru seeks out Tsukimi for help in creating somethiing new that'll attract visitors, such as delicacies for the Summer season.

HAHA I love the penguin that shat its poop close to Kai's feet, such a cheeky penguin.

Fuuka, Kukuru and Udon literally spending the day to experiment what works to row people in, the never-ending "requests of a lifetime" between Kukuru and Udon-chan. Trying out with some pictures for social media advertising, but some like Yuuri aren't so willing. Well, the ice-cream idea got shoved due to food safety regulations, but thanks to the fortune teller (which is Tsukimi/Udon-chan's mom) for info for an easier process get a permit for shaved ice, they got it all together. With the blessings of the fishhead god a Kakigori shaved ice bar right outside the aquarium to quench the throats in the hot Summer temperature.

The old man who's been staring at the aquarium for quite some time, he's the dedicated annual aquarium viewer since Kukuri's young age, and is sad that it's going away.
...shares some special memories of his life to Kukuru, helping him remember his older brother whom have passed on. The same with Kukuru and her long-lost parents...and someone dear to her? Maybe that's her older sister. A beautiful watercolour backdrop by P.A. Works' standard as usual.

So far so good, a success with some social media traction for a start. The 1st half of the 2-cour done, a dozen and a half to go.

Don't tell me they decided to go the Sakura Quest route with each character's mini-arcs unfolding sequentially.

Well the girls working hard again with new ideas and this one seemed to have worked.
Everyone seemed to appreciate the cold refreshment in animal shape.

The story of the old man was heartwarming.

Got pretty emotional seeing the old man reflect on his older brother all these years later. Just shows that you never get over loss, just learn to live with it. Kukuru seeing her parents was beautiful too. Must have been very hard for her growing up.

wow! The shave ice looks so creative. And, with the Instagram Pensta account opening, both of them will be a great way to promote the aquarium.
Who is the girl from Kukuru's dream?? Her sister? or Fuuka? let see...
i wish the day Udon-chan can open her own restaurant will come soon.

Well, Kukuru seems to be trying to get more visitors. A special shaved ice promotion to get more visitors to the Gama Gama Aquarium sounds good! We got to see a lot more of Udon-chan in this episode which, was quite interesting. Damn, that old man's story was really heartfelt, considering the current direction of the Aquarium. Overall, a great success for the Aquarium!

Gotta do that social media hustle on instagram. I still think the aquarium's fate is sealed shut to get those drama notes, but oh well.

I'm still unsure whether that vision showed Kukuru's – twin – sister or adult Kukuru. I think it's the latter. I don't know for what purpose though. Maybe there'll be a time skip later on? I really, really don't think it was Fuuka, just look at the eye color, that's either Kukuru or a Kukuru look-alike.

If her dream was to resonate with the old man's memories of his brother, then I think she has a strong emotional "connection" with her unborn sister. I do not know the author's intent, but I have heard that many people have suffered psychological trauma from unborn or very early deaths of siblings.

It's getting serious. The newspaper article verified that the calendar mark from episode one was reminding of the approaching closing date of Gama Gama.

Glad that we got some Udon-chan focus where she could show off her creativity. The shaved ice looked great, almost too good to eat.

Also loved the emotional moment that highlighted the preciousness of place attachment and also the Kijimunaa playing tricks. We got to see him again this episode.

LMAO, does anyone still believe they can be actual sisters? I can believe that the authors want to position these two as spiritual sisters (Class S and other purely Japanese things), but unlike some PriPri, they are not even alike.

The visuals in this show always blow me away; every time they show the sea is so beautiful.

The members of the aquarium have to work hard to both protect the memories of the past and create memories from the future. The scene with Kukuru’s parents and that old man’s brother was pretty sad.

That shaved ice looks really good; pretty creative from Udon. They also look to be popular on Penstagram.

Being active for 48 years is damm impressive. Sweets though is a interesting idea. Its nice that by making the request that they are also giving Tsukimi the opportunity to improve her cooking skills as well. Its unfortunate that they had such a limited budget though. Still at least the ice cream stand gave the perfect opportunity for them to go out sampling it though. Though ice cream may be off shaved ice at least was a good replacement. The magic at the aquarium really can be quite special at times huh. The scene where the old man and Kukuru saw the ones that they most cherish appear once more really was heartwarming. The customized shaved ice that Tsukimi created though sure was creative. Shaved ice in the form of their namesake was quite the novel idea. Overall a care free and relaxing ep as always that while showing Kukuru and Fuuka's determination to stave off the closure also did well to expand upon Tsukimi as a character via the shaved ice stand. Combined with the power of social media this should help draw in more visitors.

When it's a gelato, some people prefer to use a spoon even for a cone, because a gelato is denser and "stickier" than ice cream. I have never seen people using spoons on a cone with ice cream, on the other hand.

When the penguin snuggled under kukuru's hand to get her attention was so cute.

I think Japanese traditions for Western food are like Japanese ads. You get it technically, but it's still too specific Japanese thing. For example, borscht has always been the main soup in Russia or Ukraine, but in Russian restaurants in Japan it is eaten as something delicious for gourmets.

in the hospital episode there is a brief moment where kukuru is informed with maternity booklets, and remembers she saw 2, that is an implication that kukuru's mom was pregnant when she met her demise and the person she saw was kukurus unbors sister i think.

Hmm... The article in the newspaper is now a additionally pressure to Kukuru to handle the things ASAP... It will be not a easy challenge it to prevent, but I've trust that they will somehow it wipe out.

The ice-cream attraction-project was really interesting and funny - and yeah, Undon-chan had in curve think that she could the supply/limitation solve.

And in flashback/illusion scene of the old man and Kukuru's was indeed emotional: the potential reunion with her late parent and plus with the mysterious girl - what really to her alike was (I'm as well interested who it was...). If you did carefully pay attention, then the flashback was during in the WWII, because in the background you could clearly hear that in the near fight action was. (to be honest I thought that he could be Kukuru's other grandfather from her father side...)

The shaved ice stand was clever but really hard to believe.

-Udon-chan volunteering during her time off from her family diner?
-the stand being only a 1-person operation (Udon-chan)?
-how are those intricate shaved ice designs being made at such a speed while meeting the demand? making those must take time and will definitely hold the line up unless Udon-chan had some assistance
-being intricate designs based on marine life, what if she makes a mistake? will it still be "picture perfect" for penstagram? will the customers be pleased?
-they just got the health permit to sell shaved ice and Udon-chan is by herself ...making both the shaved ice AND handling the money for payment
-I imagine summers are very hot in Japan so those designs would melt right away

etc.

If anything helps to make your aquarium last through the summer, Social Media is your best bet. I am surprised that the Aquarium didn't have anything like it. Perhaps Fuuka can be a major help in that.

A little food stall is a nice idea. Shaved Ice, decorated to look like sea life, very clever!! Just make Tsukimi a permanent member of the Gamagama team!! I like her positive attitude!

I really felt sad about the story of the old man visiting every year to have a chance to meeting his older brother once again. You truly never stop grieving, no matter how much time has passed and I think they captured that pretty well. I really want to know what's causing these phenomena. That red haired kid/deity does have something to do with it. On Kukuru's side of things, man that hit hard. Seeing her parents again in the same way the old man met his brother again. It still leaves me with questions, especially when that third person appeared for Kukuru. They are teasing us a lot about it and I am growing impatient to find out what it is all about.

Ironically, the news about the aquarium's impending closure could actually very well be a good thing for Kukuru and co: with the right approach on social media, they can use that impending threat to rally the local and tourist populaces to visit while they have the chance. Combine that with special promotions like this shaved ice idea and they could well have a chance to save the aquarium. Still a long shot, for sure, but there's hope for them in the face of this impending despair.

As for the old man reminiscing about his dead brother and Kukuru seeing her dead parents in the aquarium, there's some nice emotion in these ideas but it still feels very disconnected from everything else in the show for now. My best guess is that the idea is that they'll eventually try to share these magical elements of the aquarium with the world as a last-ditch and ultimately successful effort to save the aquarium when all else fails.

I loved the idea of the shaved ice being themed based on sea life thanks to the creative brain of Udon-chan. With the help of social media, they were able to make the shaved ice stand a big success. I want to have one now... =3

One part of the episode that I really enjoyed was the old man, who visited the aquarium every year since it first opened, having a hard time after losing his brother and closing down his struggling business, but seeing his brother within the aquarium brought him hope to make his life better, hence why he comes back every year just so he could see his brother again.

Thankfully, the magic of the aquarium wove into action, which helped the old man see his brother again. Not just that, but at the same time, Kukuru got to see her parents again, which led to a double dose of emotional moments. The old man's moment where he was young again and riding on his older brother's shoulders while the sound of war plays in the background gives off that sombre and sad feeling. Kukuru's moment as she cried within her parent's arms got me tearing up a little bit, too, but just before the sequence ended, we also got to see what looked like an older version of Kukuru or maybe her unborn sibling.

This does make me want to know more about what happened to her parents, although I don't think that'll happen just yet. Regardless, this was a very successful day for Gama Gama Aquarium and hopefully one good step forwards in the right direction fo saving the place from closure.

He only acts like that to girls

Still does not change the fact that he still acts like that around guys as well, like that time they offered him a shaved ice, but the other guy took it away from it, after Kuuya stated "no I hate brain freeze".

Even if he were to only act like that around girls only, his negativity takes up 98% of the screentime, so it does not matter.

Interesting development over Udon, bringing awareness of that there is more than being knowledgeable. The Kukuro scene was a tearjerker, probably providing further reinforcement over Kukuru's stance. I hope this unfolds elegantly, the snail pacing is not doing it for me but at least the visuals and the mini arcs are not crap

Pleasantly surprised by this episode, probably the first one I actually liked for this show. Although it's probably cause the main characters aren't the focus of this episode...The shaved ice cream with the aquarium animal designs is a great idea to bring additional attraction to the aquarium, albeit ignoring the realities of how hard it is to actually set up a shaved ice stand like that. But very cute and creative idea nevertheless. Tsukimi is a very admirable character. The part with the old man was enchanting. The visuals and sceneries are seriously breathtaking; I'll be really impressed if the show manages to maintain this level of quality throughout its entirety. Won't get my hopes up though. Wonder which character(s) is going to be focused on next.

Another great episode of Kukuru's attempts at bringing in the dough, the teasing of what her past could be is painful
