What does Dropped mean to you and how do you see it in others?

When you drop something, how harsh are you? To me, dropped means that I have lost interest in a show (probably by missing a week for a seasonal), or I have no interest in trying to get into it. I tried it and it didn't catch my interest. If I sincerely WANT to try to get back into someday, it'll be on hold.

However, I feel like when seeing others drop something I enjoy, it feels like they're spitting on something I like.

What about you?

Dropping is just stopping to watch something and not planning on going back to it. Something so bad, you can't watch any more episodes of.

I agree with you. If I drop something, it's because I've seen enough that I know I'll hate it and I don't want to waste my time, I've lost interest, or the show hasn't gripped me enough to continue. If it's something good that I'm slowly losing interest in (for me, Monster), I'll put it on hold and take a break.

As for how I see it in others, it depends. If something like Kill la Kill or Gurren Lagann don't grip you in the first few episodes, you'll never get into it, so I would understand. However, if it's a slow burn that builds to a gargantuan ending like Eva or Ergo proxy, than I would encourage them to finish it.

Anime is entertainment, so I drop anime that I don't find entertaining. I get bored pretty easily, I think I dropped about 30% of the anime series I started watching (excluding multiple entries from the same franchise and standalone movies). It may sound harsh, but it's the best way to prevent a burn-out.

Important notes: dialogue heavy =/= boring, action heavy =/= entertaining. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.

How do I see it in others? Well, everyone's taste is different.

I never dropped an anime/manga. I like to finish what I started, despite being awful. Sometimes I enjoy counting the mistakes of the shows 🀣

When I drop something, it's because I don't want to continue it for whatever reason. Most often it's because I'm not interested enough to watch further. This doesn't mean that I found the show bad, it just means either that I lost interest (as I say on my profile too "Oftentimes, I might not have anything against shows I dropped, but simply just feel that I got the idea, and don't need to watch further") or that I never was that into it in the first place (in my list I say that these shows didn't click with me). Sometimes I might drop a show if I'm against a certain element of it that I more often than not wasn't anticipating (e.g. characters/character behaviors that I dislike so much that they ruin the show for me or plot elements that aren't to my liking).
When I put on hold stuff I often end up dropping them after a while and thus putting them on hold was me pausing watching them while making my mind up on whether I was interested enough to continue, but that's not always the case; once I did end up finishing a show that was on hold (though I didn't rate it that highly afterwards; only gave it a 6/10), and what I currently have on hold is stuff I wait to finish airing because for the one of them I don't quite know what to think of (it seems like it could be bad, but I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt, because it still seemed promising plotwise when I put it on-hold, and I don't want to wait for it every week only for it to end up being bad, and would rather binge a few episodes after it finishes airing and make up my mind on it afterwards) and the other airs only once every 3 weeks so I don't want to cluter my Watching tab.

There are also the rare times that a user would add it a show to their dropped as they don't have interest in ever starting it (or starting its sequels) so that in recommendations would limit the chances of seeing that show suggested through a computational site or from another user

Dropped just means I stopped watching it. Whether that be temporary or permanent. I really don't really give a crap what other people drop, it's more interesting to talk about anime we both like than go "Oh so why did you drop this one?"

On hold for me is usually where I shove a bunch of previously finished entries that got annoyingly dredged up cause a new OVA is announced. It's there cause it's either not subbed or I didn't bother anymore when it was

I never drop anything anymore. I still will put some things on-hold, but once I've properly started a show there's no backing out.

Back when I did drop, though, a lot of them were ones I just got bored of or started for reasons that I no longer needed them for. It wasn't exactly an insult to them that they were in my drop list.

A lot of people only watch things that they think they'll like, which makes complete sense. Those people probably won't drop a lot of stuff, and whatever they drop is things that they really hate, and consider to be bad shows.

Other people, like me, will give a try to every show that has the potential to be good. There's not enough time to complete every anime ever, so they'll end up dropping a lot of stuff. I have dropped 340+ anime, but a lot of them are things with low scores, very few members, and that almost no one likes. Still, because of that, I found a lot of hidden gems, including some of my favorite anime. I have dropped some anime that I absolutely hate, but sometimes I'll drop a 5/10 if it's a very long show, and I feel like there are better things out there that would make watching it sort of meaningless. I might even recommend a show that I dropped to other people, and maybe revisit it a few months/years later, if my tastes have changed or if I heard that it gets better later on.

Obviously I either just lost interest in the anime or it was bad enough to me that I didn't want to continue; I assume the same thing from others.

I drop stuff a lot more often nowadays because I've become less tolerant of anime's bullshit over time, and I regret finishing some of the garbage in my completed list.

Dropped for me means I gave it a reasonable chance (3+ episodes). If I watch one or two episodes and dislike an anime I remove it completely cause I don’t think I gave it a fair chance to be considered something I watched, if that makes sense.

There were a few shows from my drop list I decided to eventually finish. As well as some shows from on-hold were sent to dropped.
It's too vague to define. Titles on hold have a probability to be watched some time. Chances to return to something dropped are close to zero, but still not zero though.

It means I'm very unlikely to come back to that show.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

The advice I will give my great-grandchildren in my deathbed is: "Don't pay attention to what anime others are watching or dropping. They are probably doing it exactly for the same reason as you. Imagine if you stopped dropping shows only in order to avoid hurting other people's feelings. Everyone has aaarrghhh."

Doesn't Dropped list in others mean "Cool person didnot cringe watch it to get bragging rights"?

"Dropped" for me means "I don't have plans to continue watching this show."

The difference between that and "Stalled"/"On-hold" is that for "Stalled"/"On-hold" I'm still "yeah I kinda do feel like I wanna finish it sometime".

Though to be fair at this point me having Mai-HiME on hold for like a decade is a running gag in itself.

Dropped just means you simply don't want to go back to it. Don't know why some anime fans seem to make such a big deal about not wanting to finish shows. I can watch a show and enjoy however many episodes, and stop watching whenever and that's like some evil crime that I didn't finish every single episode. For example if I watch Detective Conan, and I just wanted to watch 50 episodes, I'm doing the show wrong for not wanting to watch 1000 episodes, the heck? The show was great, but I just didn't feel like watching any more. There's also the assumption that if I drop a show I didn't like it, which I also find annoying.

pretty much all my drops are seasonals since I don’t really go out of my way to watch mediocre shows that are from the past (finished airing shows), but as for seasonals there’s no real indicator if something will be worth while or not and since I tend to try everything that airs in a given season I have a couple drops each season

If someone drops a series I like, it is what it is. I understand how you feel though. It's natural when you really love a series so much and you want other people to get the same enjoyment out of it as you do. I typically drop something if it doesn't interest me and I'm not able to find the motivation to continue it. I don't believe in completionism since the time I'd invest into a series may not change my opinion of it from beginning to end.

Dropped to me generally means permanently. I say generally because there is ONE anime that I dropped like 8 years ago when I didn't like slow paced anything that I MAY give another try. May. And honestly the only reason I'm considering it is the person that created it has a lot of series that were turned into anime and this particular series is the only one I didn't like. So... yeah.

Most of the time I'm just bored with the show and want to stop pretending I can keep them on hold forever. But I usually do want to try to finish them eventually, especially if there aren't that many episodes left.

If I've dropped it quickly , especially at 3 episodes, it means that I don't like it and I'm not going to even try.

When I see other people drop shows, especially ones I like, it kinda hurts. But I understand that not everyone has the same tastes and is going to like the same things.

I only dropped 2 things so far and I did it, because I just couldn't take it anymore, too annoying. I don't want to get back to either Fairy Tail or One Piece, but I don't mind skimming through episodes in detail, which I already did for One Piece years ago. Dropping means I don't watch episodes fully anymore or plan to watch them fully in the future, which is pretty self-explanatory. In the future, I plan to mark as "dropped" only things that I truly drop and forget about, but those that I partially watch and complete, I may still consider completed, as long as I comprehend the story.

Depends on what comment they leave about it, if any. But otherwise, I'm sure they had a reason to drop it, so it doesn't matter to me all that much. Although, sometimes I take these things personally too, it really just depends on the circumstances.

Dropping is when you decide to not watch and finish the show. I normally don't drop a show, if I get past 3 episodes I'll watch it regardless of how bad it is. I don't consider dropping something when I have only watched one episode tho. For example, I "dropped" Angels of Death after one episode, but I might come back to it later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It simply means "I watched some of this show, but do not want to watch any more."

What depends on the person is probably how they drop. For instance, I usually drop if the show makes me turn it off mid-episode, or if I really can't be arsed to turn on the next one. Then again, other people might drop practically everything that they aren't actively following, much like most people use their On Hold section.
Well I for one already loved Lain.
