Would you disregard a series because of art-style?

So is there a well received anime you just kinda not motivated/ refuse to watch just because you despise/ dislike the art style?

Gonna say I still haven't watch JoJo yet despite knowing it's good and knowing the reference of those Jojo memes, and it's mainly because of the art-style.

Might give it a go eventually, but not strongly motivated yet. (Plus there're alot of seasons to catch up to which further makes me more laid-back about it)

I heard Pin-Pung is good too but still not motivated to watch it too because that art-style is even stranger than JoJo.

Can't watch Korean animation.
It's just weird.

Chinese animation is good though.

Hell no, in fact I love it when a series uses different and cool art styles, just gets me to appreciate it more (Tatami Galaxy).

What I can't forgive is inconsistent art style though. Also PLEASE do not dismiss JoJo's because of the art XD

Yep if it's too ugly/weird (ping pong/jojo)
I can deal with mediocre art style

I wouldn't since you get used to the style over the episodes and that's not the main focus.

If the art style is the only issue I might opt for the manga.

I like weird art styles but I don't watch many anime with standard art. Something that looks way too normal doesn't appeal to me.

The animation quality worries me more than the art-style . For example , the plot of Welcome to the N.H.K is very interesting and it seems to be a masterpiece but haven't seen it because of the poor animation .

Are you talking about ignoring a foundation like the visual? It is a matter of adaptation, in my case until now I did not like any style of art different from the usual.

I'm really not that picky but when I saw the pvs for ping pong and flowers of evil I said to myself that these are a no no. I barely survived the other yuasa works because I liked the story, but these two look horendous for me.

At times. I find Kimi no Iru Machi's animation a bit ehh... But I still watched through it and enjoyed it. Same with Fate/stay night 2006. But if the animation's art style REALLY bothered me, I won't watch it.

Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber!
Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route!

Not really, as long as it's faithful to the adaptation or just good as it is

I don't refuse to watch Made in the Abyss but the moe character designs turns me off from watching it. I do refuse to watch Clannad and Kanon because the eyes really creep me out. I have no interest in watching Outlaw star because of the look of the characters especially this one .

Frankly speaking, yes.
In fact, that's one of the main reason why I still haven't watch great anime that my friend recommended to me..

Though in the end, I still watch some of it and i even really like it. Ex: Steins;Gate and Katanagatari

I'm starting to get embarrassed by my own forum signature line.. XD

everything is almost always watcheable as long as it doesn't have a shit plot or characters
bad plot and characters make a bad anime, not bad art

that being said, I love the Berserk manga, all the characters and story...
but i wouldn't try to watch the 2016/17 anime ever again.. but that of course is mainly because of terrible directing, but it is all so visually cancer

Most people would be lying if they didn't. Considering the fact the majority of people don't even touch older shows, not because of story but because of the visuals.

I loved the manga, but I was completely turned off by the animation of Flowers of Evil. I Watched a few seconds of ep 1 and that was it for me

I tend to be more drawn to detailed art-styles like from Death Note and Kuroshitsuji. And art styles that are different from the norm in a dramatic way. I love art, and I think anime needs more diversity.

Though sometimes there's an art style that turns me off and can make me not get around to the series. An example would be Dragon Ball Z. I also tend to not like series with low budge looking art. I want to see something unique, with a lot of effort put in.

And it hurts again, Jojo is mentioned here ,ah, my heart, it's ruptured.

Some of my favs initially put me off because of the art style so I try to avoid dismissing a series too early.

I'm still not watching Clannad though. Those fuckin' eyes, m8.

Hmm, I know some may not like Violet Evergarden, but you're the first I heard that you can't stand it because of art-style since it's one of the thing that usually get praised for.

To each of their own then.

Code Geass is just repulsive to me. Those fucking faces make me unreasonably angry.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

I put off Ping-Pong for quite a while because of the style and that I wasn't into sport anime at the time but the dub fell into my torrent lap one day and I quickly binged all 11 and I fucking loved it. Like I'll admit it takes a bit to get the ball rolling but damn.

I hear this flack for Mob Psycho despite it having better animation then literally any seasonal show. Honestly the style is what attracted me to it but it took a couple attempts to get to the end of episode 2 aka where it solidifies the deal.

Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet on Jojo but it's more the humor of Jojo that perplexes me then the art per say.

Eeeeeeh? But Violet Evergarden looks pretty.

OT: If the artstyle got in the way like that I wouldn't have watched Aku no Hana. Unique artstyles can be a double edged sword but when done right it can really enhance the immersion, like for example Mononoke did.

Yeah, I would say I do but I feel pretty guilty by it. I know there are some hidden gems that are older, but the art style from back then doesn't interest me and by far do I prefer the modern, crisp art styles that you get out of recent anime from J.C.Staff or A-1 Pictures to name a few producers. I was even backing away from Code Geass, a 2006 anime, which is not that old because the art style was too 'blocky' for my taste if that makes any sense.

If I don’t like the art style, I’d definitely hesitate on watching it but I wouldn’t disregard it.

There have been shows where I didn’t like the art style initially, but they grew on me later on.
