THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
An episode that focuses more on Tora...nice.
She made a weird impression and has an odd sport in this death game but I think she does belong there.

As I had expected out of most episodes, it didn't take long for the storytelling to get to the bloodshed and tragedy.

One thing I'm glad this show has been doing is depicting the reality of the violence. It doesn't omit censorship on most parts and gets its point across.

I'm so sad and feel cheated. They didn't even try to expand Rabbit and shoved Tiger's flashback this episode. There's not much happening after this so what will they do in 3 eps? All I wanted was to see Usagi's way of thinking, like in the novel. It was so elaborated there that you'd understand why the title is such, you cannot catch two rabbits if you chases both. That's exactly what he did here, he tried to take care of both Rat and ox/Tiger. I know the novel have no backstory for Rabbit but they could've done so much for him before his eventually suicide.

I couldn't stop laughing when Dragon got REKT in the very beginning xDDD

I dunno whether or not I should feel sorry for Tiger or just pity her due to what happened in her backstory though and even though I'm happy that the Waifu Killer/Rabbit is dead, I feel like he's still alive somehow

Plus there's Monkey's zombie corpse to think about (Unless Rat finds and kills her first)

EDIT: Judging from these other posts above, it sounds like he really is dead lol....I wonder why he "committed suicide"

2 deaths in this episode (Dragon and Rabbit)

damn this anime could have been better for me if it was all 3DCG, the 3D battle scenes are awesome to watch

Tora's background story was nice.
But I was kinda disappointed when Rabbit killed off Dragon so quickly. I thought we would see him at least fight with his weapon once.

Also Rabbit's sudden death (or suicide?) shocked me. I assumed that he would be the final enemy that Rat has to overcome.
I wonder what really happened to Rabbit and why. Also a pity he didn't get any background story.

But now we will see Tora vs. Ox in the next episode and Tora will probably die.

Oh shit the Dragon died straight away. The Rabbit died just like that! SHIT!

The Rat's gotta make an appearance or I won't really be impressed if he wins.

I'm pretty sure the that the winner of the duel will be the Boar because of the slight preview at the end. We're now at the final battle(s)!

Glad to see that Tora wasn't made a drunk just for the hell of it: she actually has a reason behind her severe alcoholism, and it makes her a more real and interesting character.

So, I was fully expecting to see Usagi's head blink or smile when they focused in on it at the end... and from a storytelling perspective, the fact that he appears to have bitten his own tongue and that extra little focus at the end can't be insignificant: despite some of the previous comments, they are sending some very loud signals that there is more to come with Usagi, and if they don't do something with it I'm going to be very disappointed. Right now there's not really any payoff for his character having existed, they need something to justify him.

Got to see some backstory for Tiger. It was decent. Rabbit killed off Dragon so quickly. He's dead as well, which is a pity since we never got to see his backstory. That's disappointing. The fight was pretty good, except for the CG. It looked weird. This was an anti-climatic episode tbh.

Man idk why but the animation quality drops even further this episode. So many off model shots in Tiger's backstory, it just looked worse than the animation in the Snake and Dragon eps. At least the content for Tiger's backstory was entertaining imo.

And finally they ended up killing Bunny which I knew he was gonna be OP before the show started but didnt think he would've won. At least I hope he's dead for good cause now Tiger and Ox can focus on their fight. I wonder what Rat is up to at this point.

Dragon was as useful in life as his brother. Bit disappointing, but I can't complain since they're by far my least favorite characters.

But damnit why do these flahsbacks have to be so long? They could have gotten the point of Tiger's story and personality across way faster than they actually did, and the same can be said for so many of the other episodes.

Heavy use of CGI here, not the biggest fan but it works well enough in the fight scenes at least.

Rabbit has been super OP up until this point (including the way he killed Dragon in this episode, I mean hot damn), so I can't help but feel like this isn't quite the end for him yet.

I like the fact Tora and how she is was fully explained, however, I wish they would've saved it until her actual episode, as she will

Rabbit died, disappointed he didn't get a backstory, however he bit his tongue as in the novel and his arms may do a few interesting things...

I'm guessing they will fill up time with a Monkey vs Rat battle.

Also for all the people still saying "oh it's so predictable" yes it is, it is meant to be. They do not spoil the show, it is meant to be the race of the zodiac animals which decided the order of the zodiac but retold in the form of a battle royale. Doesn't make it a perfect show, no, but it wasn't meant to be a high octane, surprise around ever corner show anyways.

Monkey threw him up combined with one of his normal jump, it is explained in the novel that it was no ordinary feat, but with Monkey who is extremely strong and with no limiters now, can do that.

However I agree mostly with what you're saying in the rest of your post.

Boy, I mean, it was not in the original source (even), and you are still complaining? This is a case of extreme "REeee" upon you. Stop it. Get helped.
The way Rabbit was done represents what he represents perfectly. Insanely charging into combat against two better opponents - he did not care for this or that, he does not need a backstory. He was a manifestation of insanity and that is all there is to it. Green faces might not be accustomed to what "insanity" stands for, but... that is their loss. Moving on.
Rabbit might still do something bad since he can still be alive through his stupid skill. That would explain why Ox dies perfectly. Rabbit gets him with a surprise attack, Rat wins the game by being the only one alive without physically killing anyone. Yes, that would be reasonable,...

As was expected, two deaths this time: a fast first one before the opening, and an even faster second one. I didn't care Dragon's death was so quick, but the same is kinda puzzling and anticlimactic with Rabbit... he seemed like a smart dude, but the way he rushed out and got himself killed made him one of the dumbest. Is it really the end of him? That is the question. Though I kinda got my hopes up with Monkey being smarter than just die of from an amateur mistake of underestimating her opponent without putting some sort of clever plan in action, but I was let down, so I don't wanna set myself up for a disappointment again by getting my hopes up in regards to Rabbit.

And wow, way to degrade, Tiger. I get her reasons, but drinking so much that she really became just a rabid beast waiting to be put down? It's just, uh...

loved Tora's backstory, unfortunately she's doomed now :( idk why so many people think it was unfair how Rabbit died (or did he?) cause it was stated in the previous episodes that he isn't that good of a warrior. especially when fighting against Ox and Tiger. I hope he doesn't get revived, that would be lame.
the characters are dying so quickly, I wonder what they're going to fill up the last 3 episodes with :?

Well, in the novel. rabbit was actually rushing to end the war, he counted only three remaining (in this episode too) and so he tried to divide his forces. The twins can easily get to ox and tiger because dragon can fly but him and monkey are far away. So he sent monkey to rat and he went to ox and tiger. Basically he thinks that it's bad if his friends do the kill and so to avoid damaging the ox and tigers body, he wanted to be the one to do it. However he didn't expect that the twins can be defeated right away and so he was left to fight without monkey's corpse. Reinforcements will take time and so he decided to fight a 2 on 1 battle, why? You can watch next episode, I don't wanna spoil.

Basically the title that he tried to chase two rabbits but catches neither perfectly described his predicament.

The deaths of Rabbit and Dragon were so fucking quick was kinda funny. I don't think Rabbit is down yet, though, since there is Monkey's corpse left, and there is the possibility his Necromantist ability can revive him too.

Liked Tiger's flashback. Her descend in decadence as time passes and she realized how wars were nothing glorious and drowns herself in alcohol until turning into a best was well done.
I don't mind Rabbit doesn't has a flashback, since I don't think the author wanted to make him nothing more than a psycho, tbh.

The CGI this episode was kinda underwhelming, but, well...

Rabbit didn't have a background story in the novel. All there is in his profile is 'Details Unknown' but since the anime have expanded the other characters' backstories, I was hoping they'll make up one for Rabbit, but no, they didn't.

It was nice that they focused on how Rabbit bit his tongue before he was sliced into pieces by Ox and Tiger. So I'm not sure Rabbit committing suicide and was dead even before Ox and Tiger struck would be considered anticlimactic, considering...

I believe we can still hope for a slight glimpse. On Ox's POV chapter, he focuses his thought a lot why Rabbit have done what he did. I just really hope the anime gives something about his past. They definitely broke the order by having showing Tiger's backstory in his POV episode and the next will still focus on Tiger.

I didn't really give a damn about the Tatsumi twins but I was really hoping to see Dragon in action (while alive) at least a little. But his death was quick as fuck.

We got some Tiger backstory and then some cool fight scenes afterward. I don't like complaining about CGI but it looked kind of weird in this episode. The fight scenes actually looked pretty smooth though, but otherwise, it was jarring and caught me off guard. The budget is clearly dwindling.......

There has to be a reason why there was that up close focus on Rabbit biting his tongue before getting killed, but until we see what that detail potentially has in store for us, I'm gonna go ahead and say that Rabbit's death was anticlimactic. I wish we got his backstory as well (I'm aware the source material doesn't have it either but I was hoping for an anime-original change), or at least a decent fight. Again, he might have some hidden trick up his sleeve, but if not, then this was disappointing.

Wow no wonder Dragon was in the sky giving a hella long monologue last episode. He was meant to die in the sky. They don't even give the poor dude a chance lmao.

Is it me or was the second half of this episode basically 99% CGI?

I kind of feel bad for Tiger. She reminds me a lot of Monkey, but instead of the peaceful path, she took the one where she wanted everything to burn to the ground. They're basically opposites. And the peaceful person is usually the first to go in a war. Then again, Boar is also an opposite to Monkey.

I don't think Rabbit really "died" yet, but maybe he did..? Time to update this..

Symbolism of Zodiacs:
Snake: Rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing due to the shedding of their skin. Also known as a "creative life force."
Boar: Defense, war, courage.
Dog: Guidance, protection, loyalty, faithfulness.
Chicken: A symbol of parental and spiritual love
Monkey: Tails represent tools of balance and control.
Sheep: Renewal, purification, compassion.
Horse: A universal symbol of freedom without restraint.
Dragon: Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, typhoons, and floods.
Rabbit: Symbolic rabbit meanings deal primarily with abundance, comfort, and vulnerability. Traditionally, rabbits are associated with fertility, sentiment, desire, and procreation.

The irony of their deaths:
Snake: He is still killing people even after his death, hence the "creativeness" and "rebirth."
Boar: Her arrogance (or twisted form of "courage") did her in.
Dog: He was too trusting of Chicken.
Chicken: She let her birds eat her, hence the "parental love" part.
Monkey: Her personality is all about peace or "control." She died because she couldn't control Rabbit/get through to him/figure him out. Everything was out of control for her.
Sheep: This one is kind of a stretch, but he was old, so I guess that figures on the "renewal" part. Either that, or his "compassion" for replacing his son in the war ended up killing him.
Horse: He died in a barricaded room with no escape.
Dragon: Liquid nitrogen. Pretty obvious symbolism there.
Rabbit: ???

Very disappointing start IMO, I thought Dragon would have something up his sleeve but he got murdered at the start lmao.

However, the later contents of the episode made up somewhat, but the passable animation quality together with the backstory of Tora.

And I'd like to also say that since Rabbit can turn anyone he kills into zombies, he probably took advantage of the fact that he is going to be cut into several pieces or killed by them at this stage, so why not just kill himself first.

If my theory is right, then he'll probably be back to fight them in many many pieces.

Yup, the Rabbit is gonna come back in next episode. I can just see it already in my head. Though I find it bizarre and pointless on getting yourself killed and then using your own necromantist power on yourself. Even if you win the fight, what's next? You're already freaking dead.

I'm gonna put down my chips and say that it's the reanimated Rabbit that will kill the Tiger. Yup, totally, because that's how this show operates. Every death comes out of the blue, supposedly from an unexpected angle.

Hopefully the battle between the Ox and the Tiger is more exciting. Or not, cause they'll most likely spend most of the next episode on flashbacks or something again. LOL.

What a weird show. It's not bad, but I can't say it's good either.

That was an unexpected ending for sure.

I'm disappointed that we didn't get any backstory for Rabbit in this episode. I saw others saying he didn't receive any flashbacks in the source material too, but I feel like they could have at least given him a little something. I agree with what others are saying that this isn't the last of him. I would assume if he is really dead that Monkey won't be able to act anymore since his power was the one keeping her corpse "alive."

I enjoyed Tiger's backstory and guessed before they made the big reveal that her drinking was because of all of the bloodshed she went through. It looks like she's also involved in the giant war that everyone else who has flashbacks was also involved in. I'm curious to see how Rat is going to fit in with the war because I think he's a bit young to be as involved as everyone else is. (My guess is that Ox was also one of the best fighters involved in the war.)

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with how the ending fight went. The action with Snake and Dragon was a nice treat for this episode, and I was happy to see Tiger in action. I thought that Ox would have done more than her though, since he's proclaimed the "genius of slaughter." I feel like Tiger is more versatile than he is but he'll ultimately have more brute strength than her in the next episode.

Next week's action should be good though since we won't be having another backstory unless they DO manage to pull some Rabbit scenes out of thin air. Like I said before, I'm not familiar with the source material so these are all just thoughts from what I've seen from the anime.

A part of me wishes they showed some more scenes with Rat, but I guess he's just hiding like usual. I hope they do something to make me relate with his character more because at this point I'm almost dreading the ending. I feel like if Ox, Tiger, or even Rabbit won (assume he turned himself into a zombie and is still "alive") that would be a more interesting ending than if the series continues with the zodiac race trend.

I did enjoy the fight scenes, but I'm left wanting more from this series as of right now. I hope that "Zombie" Rabbit pulls out some sick moves next weekend or else I think that the ending will be very anti-climatic for me. (I'm guessing right now after Ox offs Tiger he will get tricked by Rat and lose in some bullshit way.)

Watta way for the dragon and the bunny to die, so if bunny bit off his tongue, then for what, to be a zombie himself?????

Too bad for the tiger , she started as a sweet girl who is into martial arts , but in her search for that Michi thing, she becomes psycho drunkard.
