I don't know if this is the right category, by the way. If you don't wanna read all of this, just skip to the bottom. My little brother wanted to start watching anime, and at that he asked me for recommendations. Naturally, I refused. I wasn't about to let him watch anime, especially since he's in puberty and all, with all sorts of skinship and innuendos. It would be dumb to make him watch stuff like Doraemon and Pokemon, but it'd be equally dumb to let him watch any other anime with no filters whatsoever. I told him about all the obscene and inappropriate things that reside within anime, and he just told me that we were equally mature, or whatever a dumb, young teenager would say about being mature enough. Anyways, my mom somewhat forced me to let him watch some, and I need an actual site (kind of like common sense media) that rates anime, particularly in the sexual category. |

I don't see why you feel the need to censor anime from him, just ask him what kind of genre he wants to watch and show him an anime that you think he will like. It's not really that big of a deal for him to see some animates breasts and some shots of panties every once in a while and it's not really as if anything bad will come of it. |

Most anime should be okay for him regardless of his age. If he is very small, just keep the extremely gory ones and sexual ones (ecchi) away from him. As for a site, try IMDb. It should have parental ratings for most anime and a detailed description as to why it got that rating. |

MAL is actually very helpful in this regard since there's an age rating on every entry. Any anime with partial nudity in it (exposed breasts) is rated R+. If you avoid those and the ecchi genre you should be good to go for the most part. Most battle shounen would be fine, as would many school dramas. Edit: Even battle shounen, school dramas, etc. have minor fanservice scenes on rare occasions. Unless you've already seen the series ahead of time yourself it's hard to guarantee literal zero fanservice. Hmm. Maybe something like Clannad? |

Go with the classics then? FMA, Ghibli, Angel Beats, Anohana, Death Parade, Durarara, Noragami, Shigatsu Wa kimi no use, Stein's gate, are all friendly animes in that regard, and popular. Even if they do have some fanservice, it's probably less than your average western movie. |

Japan doesn't have a TV rating system as far as I know. They only give ratings for films which would also include anime films. So if it's a tv series only way you can know is if you go by what rating your local licensing of it received or what the dub received but dubs sometimes change a lot so you cant base dub rating as a basis of the raw/sub rating but it will give you a rough idea. You could check IMDB and wikipedia to look up the official ratings if any are available I think. The rating system MAL uses isn't that accurate i actually gives overly high ratings on some things. Films are easiest to find ratings of so start with that. |

I think relying on websites to inaccurately rate an anime may prove fatal for you lol. I'd say, if you're a fan of anime.. you may want to watch the series first and find something you think isn't suitable for you cute brother. That's how I would do it. "Research" for 2-3 series prior so you have some buffer while you check the next batch :) |

I think you may make a rating based on your experience while watching anime itself rather than this site age rating because it's dumb Then give the most suitable anime for your brother. BTW , i'd agreed with your mom. Let him watched show like power ranger or some western cartoon. Because its could be better for your little brother than anime |

People tend to be pretty vocal about fanservice elements, so a scan of an anime's MAL page/reviews usually gives a pretty good idea. Watching at least the first few episodes would also be advised, regardless of what any website/other person says about the level of sexual content. If I were you, I would start with the shounen tag since those tend to be anime aimed towards his demographic, and you may end up really liking them too ^.^ Stuff like Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, etc. (Also, I apologize for my other comment, as I hadn't read what you said about your mother. I still think it's overbearing to try and choose his anime for him, but I guess that can't be helped.) |

Maybe give the following a try, going down my list. I'll list a few that appear okay that you should still be careful with with notes. No notes means it should be entirely unobjectionable. No guarantees your brother will actually like any of them though. In all cases you're probably better off viewing first on the off-chance I forgot some small scene. I nearly listed Anohana, for example, but there is one scene in the very first episode that would probably be a big no to your mom, and one of the characters cross-dresses and is generally mentally disturbed too... so yeah. • The House of Small Cubes • Kimi ni Todoke • Sailor Moon -- When the girls transform there is a brief opaque silhouette a la barbie doll nudity. • Heartcatch Precure! • Cardcaptor Sakura • Space Brothers -- One or two scenes where the characters drink, though I don't think they get hammered. No sexual content. • Ping Pong the Animation • ACCA -- The main gets drunk fairly often and is a smoker, but no sexual content. • Grave of the Fireflies • True Tears -- You might want to review the last few eps first despite no direct sexual content. • Sword of the Stranger • Clannad & After Story -- There's one suggestive scene in the first season played for comedy where Tomoya and Kyou get trapped together in the gym storage room. Very family-friendly overall though. • Cross Game • Steins;Gate -- Don't think this one is a good choice. I think there might have been one scene related to the shower. I don't remember if the girls were mostly clothed or not unfortunately. One dude's sex changes to female in one of the world lines as well; in his disbelief Okabe tries to grab his package to prove he's a guy, leading the other characters to beat the tar out of Okabe. • Patema Inverted • Shingeki no Kyojin -- Very intense action and somewhat gorey dispite the lack of sexuality. Be warned. • Hal • My Hero Academia -- You're familiar with this one. The chibi dude with ball-shaped hair is pervy, but otherwise I've seen nothing objectionable. • Planetarian • Trigun • Fullmetal Alchemist (original) and Scrapped Princess both have one or two very brief bathing scenes with absolutely nothing shown. Less fanservicey than Yoko even, but it's at your discretion. • Kanon '06 • Toradora! -- There's a beach episode iirc, so bikinis, but it should be fine otherwise. • Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 • Little Busters! & Refrain -- I don't recall any fanservice scenes whatsoever, but I haven't watched it in a long time. • One Week Friends • One Punch Man -- Please tell me the mosquito villain doesn't count as fanservice. Please. • Mob Psycho 100 • Five Centimeters per Second • Yakitate!! Japan -- Think Shokugeki no Souma without the fanservicey reactions • Hyouka • Angel Beats! -- I haven't watched this one in so long that I'm not 100%, but I don't recall anything. • Zankyou no Terror -- I vaguely recall the girl taking a shower once, but I don't recall anything being ahown. • Ore Monogatari -- There's a beach episode, so bikinis. • Santa Company -- Might come off as kiddy. |

Well, MAL has age ratings (albeit skewed) but it's a start. Just download the titles you think are appropriate, instead of streaming. Personally I find this censor thing a lot of bull, they were showing Bakuretsu Hunters and Tenchi Muyou on TV when I was five and nobody complained about it. |

Use AniDb. If you search up an anime and scroll down the page, you should see tags. The ecchi/nudity/fetishes tags will tell you how much boobs and panties and shit is in an anime. However, sometimes, an anime won't have the ecchi tag listed, but will have an extremely limited number of scenes involving suggestive shots. You can probably filter these by looking at the episode-specific section, which is right next to the tags. An example would be Plastic Memories where there is no ecchi tag listed, but you can see in episode specific that there's a very small scene in one episode containing the "boobs in your face" trope. edit: code |

My God, asian families sound like french psychologists and politics or those USA conservative families o_O There is a différence between protecting your offspring and keeping it in a bunker. Dragon Ball, a cult classic adventure comedy whose anime was targeted at children, wouldn't stand a chance !! Also, those parental ratings scales are not even shared between countries: you would have a better chance to find anime broadcasted in your country and check under wich PR the TV authorities put them. Maybe some shows even exist in a "sanitized" version, butchered by childhood specialists of your own country. By the way, Doraemon being about a growing boy, it contains female underwears too. rvbrick said: Evangelion's pretty family friendly. After all it did air in a children's time-slot thanks to it being scheduled while Anno-san was inebriated Ahaah, didn't it become the prey of the PTA and Co. until it was moved to a later slot? |

I wasn't about to let him watch anime, especially since he's in puberty and all, with all sorts of skinship and innuendos. "Naturally" um An older brother/mother being this concerned over their puberty-aged sibling/child having to witness something like sexual innuendo doesn't seem natural at all. But even if I pull my hands out of your relationship with your sibling, it seems like you're blowing this totally out of proportion with the presence of sexual innuendo in anime to begin with. If you can't recommend a single thing without stuff like that in it then you hardly have any reason to prevent your younger brother from looking into anime because of lewd elements, since it'd be clear that you've got next to no experience with the medium, or that you exclusively seek out this sort of stuff yourself - because it is far from omnipresent and unless one of those two things is the case then you would be able to easily recognize as much. I mean, fuck me, I watch ecchi anime more than most other types of anime by and large, and 8 out of the 10 favorites I have listed on my profile are tagged as such, and I would still have absolutely no trouble thinking up a recommendation that avoids that sort of thing entirely. It's not hard to find stuff like that at all. Other than that, I'm just going to echo this, I've got nothing else to add that wasn't said in this post: Deknijff said: If I could speak to your brother I would honestly tell him to find something himself since he should be allowed to watch whatever age rating he wants instead of you limiting his reach |

If you still need it, here's two sites i know of that show you how age appropriate an anime is: https://www.themanime.org/ This is the best one i have found so far, it may not list everything that's inappropriate with a anime but should give you a pretty good idea. http://www.christiananime.net/reviews/caareviews.php This one while having pretty detailed information about the inappropriate content of an anime, doesn't have a large database and not every anime listed has a detailed review either as they are relient on user submitted content. Other than that, maybe these anime would be good(i don't remember there being any fanservice in them) Detective Loki Ragnarok, Shaman King, Katekyo Hitman Reborn! http://commonsensemedia.org - Reviews more mainstream stuff, but occasionally throws a curveball. (I was surprised to find they had a review for Haganai.) IMDb also has written Parents Guides for some anime. (ex. My Hero Academia). Do keep in mind these are user-submitted and occasionally get vandalized by some kid trying to convince their parents a certain anime isn't that bad. |

Even though it's pretty limited on the site, IMDb occasionally has a parent's guide section if people are willing to put in the effort and review it. Since anime isn't necessarily as popular to talk about on the site, you wont find one for everything, but frankly, it's better than nothing. |

Oh, if you still need it, you should definitely show him Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru! There's absolutely nothing offensive in this anime, no blood, no gore and not even a trace of fanservice since all the characters are male, so you don't need to be wary of a cleavage or panty shot suddenly appearing out of nowhere on the screen. Even the most girly looking swords(Midare, Souza, Jiroutachi are in fact male) |

IMDb has parental guides for some series that are put together by IMDb users. They don't have them for every series (since users have to write them,) and they sometimes get quite spoilery, but I recall that the ones I ran across tended to be reliable. Edit: Oh. Someone beat me to it. |

They both got into anime and enjoy watching seasonals and older stuff with me now. But mind you, they are around 10, and I felt they were mature enough to the point where they could watch anime as long as I monitored what I let them watch. The stuff i recommend to them had to meet these characteristics. - No nudity - Mild to low swearing - No rape like scenes or really graphic violence - No sex - Low fanservice So with those needed prerequisites in mind some of the anime I selected for them included - Twin Star Exorcists - SAO (Although I did warn them about the parts that, you know if you watched it... S1E24, S2E15) - Konosuba - Outbreak Company - Rokka no Yuusha - Food Wars Im planning on showing them more types of anime that I currently like as they get older and mature (Stuff like Attack on Titan and Highschool DxD, but I will wait acouple years until they get there, keep em somewhat pure.) |
