At first I was paranoid the dog was going to eat the manga. Umezawa finally expressed what he truly wanted to say. Pretty good lighthearted episode after a big fight.

Good episode of Ippo, hope Umezewa makes it. Now that people backed out of fighting ippo will Ippo enter the world stage/move up weight class? Things are going to get interesting now in Ippo. Hope to see a takamura match in this series.

I always say this, Ippo DELIVERS, it does, past week I was all excited adrenaline bursting epic af, now it goes to a slice of life/comedy and is just as epic, I almost cry goddamnit.

And in the original series the moment Umezawa joined the boats business and said it was because he wanted to make a manga about Ippo it was the biggest mindfuck I literally thought "Oh my god, is this how the creator got inspired to write Hajime no Ippo? is Ippo based on some actual japanese boxer?" later I researched in terms of KO and age it could be Mike mofo Tyson he was based on.

Great episode, can't believe even Miyata backed off, although we saw him get concerned last week. One last thing, when the doctor lady was telling Ippo he needs to stop relaying on Dempsey Roll or else he'll shorten his career I was like "Yes! Yes! This so much!" because Ippo needs to become a more round boxer and take less damage, at least if they intend me to buy it. Actually I'll buy it anyway even if the last fight he wins by Dempsey Double-Roll 3000X with backflip while jumping in one feet

I have to say I was kinda disappointed. I was actually looking forward to that scene from the manga, but in the anime they shortened it and even changed it up a bit. The manga was more emotional.

Starts from 506-507 without any spoilers.

Crap, my eyes got a bit watery there, just a tiny bit... LOL He's about to confess but they probably knew what he'll gonna say so they interrupted him and left it unsaid, even though Umezawa felt it will be a closure for him. That bastard Takamura wasn't even sorry he was the one who tore the draft manga in the first place! XD Let's hope Umezawa wins the manga contest.

Time to go outside Japan! I think Ippo needs a new technique though.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,

Fuck. A masterpiece of an episode. So Ippo will stop using the Dempsey Roll and go for the world, as much as i love Ippo´s fights he always finishes his opponents with the Dempsey Roll, so when i heard that he needs to stop relying on the Dempsey Roll i was like YES. And dat character development of Umezawa. So much happened in this episode lol.

Umezawa's mini-bakuman story was alright, I had fun predicting their lines before they said them.

I agree with the glasses woman (and bringmetheanime), stop using dempsey roll already! we're already at about episode 115 and almost half of the fights have had Ippo getting beaten until he can pull off dempsey roll. the evolved dempsey was alright, but we really really really need new moves for Ippo!

Now that Sawamura has been taken care of I'm really looking forward to Takamura vs that yellow haired champ guy, dunno what his name, but i guess eagle or phoenix from the bird seen in op

Man, one of the best thing about this series is that it excels at most things it does. Epic action, excellent character development, comedy... This episode even showed some well executed drama with Umezawa's story.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Gintama too in my case. Anyway, awesome episode.
It's really wonderful how EVERY character is not forgotten, first Vorg, now Sawamura who wants to chase on his dreams. Thanks HnI.
Also, I hope for a new move for Ippo.

Now Itagaki's arc then Takamura's match?

Those feels and laughs.

I don't really like the Dempsey Roll, so I'm kinda happy about this development. I don't mind Ippo having it on his repertoire, but I'd like some diversity.

Also, I think it's wrong to say Ippo is no longer a cheese champion after his fight with Sawamura, because the whole "Stopping Mid-Dempsey" thing is not something he can use in every fight (Or in any fight from now on, considering how pissed the doctor is), so he's basically where he was before Sawamura in terms of strength, and I don't have any idea what he could do if more counter punchers challenged his Dempsey Roll.

Except the challengers don't know that. As far as they know he can pull it out whenever he wants. I for one am glad that they're moving away from the Dempsey Roll but I think they chose the perfect time to do so. It worked really well for this fight but another fight concentrating on it would've been too much

So this episode is split into two parts, the first deals with Umezawa and the second with Itagaki. To be honest I find both of them very boring. I’d much rather be watching Ippo, Vorg, Takamura, Miyata, and Date. But still, it’s nice to have a change of pace once in a while.

Though I was expecting more than just a fishing manga. Thought he was going to make a manga based on Ippo. I seriously don't see how it will be as successful as Ippo and the others make it out to be.

All the feels in the world. I'm gonna miss regularly seeing Umezawa. Hopefully we still get his cheering in every Ippo fight.

I always loved how perfectly this show can blend the action of boxing with real life drama. After the kind of lackluster Sawamura fight, the show immediately reminded me how much I love it.

I was waiting for his apology scene from S1 and I forgot all about it until he mentioned it again. The scene was nice.

So Itagaki's going to take over Umezawa now :O

Not gonna lie, this episode got me emotional. It's amazing how Umezawa's character has grown since the first ep of the 1st season, that's a lesson of how a person can change for the better with hard work and seattling head, that's maturing. Now the man he bullied in the past is his closest friend, an inspiration and has been very important for Ippo, letting him be all focused in boxing for more than 2 years. Wondering what happened to the other 2 bullies that were with him and if he still has contact with them (I thought the 3 would be cheering Ippo at the fights, but only him remained).
Now he's going all to achieve his dream, hope he keeps going to cheer Ippo's fights and has success at writing his manga. My bet is he won't have luck with his first work but will triumph later on.

This series is able to make me feel all kind of emotions, the author is a real genius. I really love this series.

I guess a bully can be a good guy too overall
Under right circumstances ofc, with a family that loving and care about him, hard to find him not to realized
Also usually bully come from family-related problems

I'll miss him :(

Ah, yes. This is the Umezawa Appreciation episode I knew that was going to happen eventually but did not have an idea about what point of the story it'll happen. I teared up at the part where Ippo's mom told Umezawa to hold his head up high when he was confessing his past misdeeds to her and it was so touching to see how deep of a friendship Ippo and Umezawa had with each other.

Itagaki intially replaced Geromichi and now he's replacing Umezawa, not to mention his sister vying to replace Kumi-chan. Let's hope that they won't end up getting caught in the middle of a storm and have Itagaki replace Ippo's dad by going overboard as well lmao
