Since I became an otaku (2009) I spent a year watching anime only in my two native languages (Spanish and Catalan).

In 2010 (17 years old), i watched my first anime in japanese language: Higurashi no naku koro ni.
I was curious to watch some horror anime but there were very few dubbed of that genre in my languages.

When I started watching Higurashi it was strange because the subtitles bothered me and I wasn't used to hearing a new language.
But already from the 2nd episode I got used to it and was hooked on the story.

One piece. I was watching it on some random website. I will never forget how annoyed I was when I couldn't find the dub. I got used to it tho and here we are.

It was One Piece. I watched it in Japanese years before I really got into anime. It was probably around 2013-2014. At least, I caught up when the anime was in the middle of Punk Hazard.

I think it was Mononoke Hime at a movie theater with bulgarian subs.

Previously I have watched anime with bulgarian dub (which at the time meant you could hear the english dub under it) and in some occasions with english dub.

I can't be certain what it could've been with subtitles, but DBZ was the first I watched raw, no sub, no dub
I began to sense faintly that secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy . . . censorship. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, “This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,” the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free.

Kaguya sama - love is war

I started watching anime 2 years ago with english dubs and was massively binging them in covid lockdown. I saw the premise of kaguya and wanted to watch it and was hesitant to dive in as it had no english dub at that time. Needless to say hearing Japanese was weird as hell but now I cannot tolerate anime unless its Japanese. Funny how it works. Tho I never enjoyed Japanese dub more than english or vice versa, I just got used to Japanese and don't wanna go back.
I watch anime and love my anime. And not to forget, live for anime

The first anime I watched subbed was Oreimo.

In terms of watching anime raw, I don't know. Raw has never been a goal for me, it's more out of desperation that I have to watch something untranslated (when translations are not available) and just hope I'm able to understand enough of it.

For me it's JoJo's bizarre adventure: star dust crusaders Battle in Egypt.... Actually I don't watch anime in Japanese ,rather I watched in English.
But then oneday I just had to watch dio Brando's voice in Japanese and then Im in great awe of such sinister voice the voice actor produced. And the
He just had to come in as beast titan and roswaal and then some notable voice actors for jotaro and cautious hero protagonist ,and then I started to watch anime both sub and dubs.

i want to say original 1987/1990 Bubblegum Crisis, -back in the mid/late-1990's- but there was such a mind-blowing crush of fresh discoveries for me
as a middle-teen at that time, that it honestly all comes back to me anymore as a rather fairly hazy blur...

For me it was Attack on Titan back in 2014-ish. At the time, I only watched whatever anime was available on Netflix, and AoT was the first title I encountered on the platform that didn't have the English Dub option yet; so I figured I'd just settle for the Japanese voices and try to get used to it.

It was a little weird at first, but after a while I realized that the voice-acting actually sounded really cool and intense, so I ended up falling in love with it. Nowadays, i'm still very open to watching English dubs if they're good enough but, yeah, AoT is the one that led me to watch anime in Jap audio more regularly.

Demon Slayer for me. I started watching anime in like mid 2018, but like very slowly, and I'd only watched dub because like I said, I was slowly getting into it at the time, I didn't want to have to read subtitles. I started Demon Slayer out of impulse on May 30, 2020. It was I guess still new to Netflix at the time, so dub wasn't accessible yet, and I was like "Okay, I guess I'll just watch it in sub."

interesting question, it took me a while to remember because i never thought of that before. it was evangelion (late 1995), i started buying the episodes as they came out in japanese with subtitles. before that the only anime series i watched were on tv, so it was all dubbed. but then i realized how superior the japanese voice acting was compared to the dubs, and stated watching subtitled anime after that.

It was Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, in 2001, a few years after I got into anime. I was never interested I watching anime in Japanese at that point, but Sailor Moon was my favorite at the time, and the final season wasn’t dubbed, so I had no choice. Over the following months, I slowly switched over to subs completely.

It's simple for me. The first anime that I watched with original voices is my first anime that I watched knowing it's an anime. And it was Onegai Teacher. I never used any dubs and I'm proud of it.

I mostly just watched dubbed versions of anime on TV when I first got into it in the 90's so it's really hard for me to remember my first subbed one...There wasn't anywhere to buy them where I lived and I didn't know VHS tapes of them existed lol. I want to say maybe Slayers, Hunter x Hunter, Senkaiden Houshin Engi or Bakuretsu Hunters?
