I was so burnt out last season that I thought that I was done with anime for a while. Thankfully I'm still here and kicking though. How do you juggle large lists?

I've recovered from the serious burnt out and am watching what I want to again. And if I have to drop shit, well that's how it is. But I just did myself dirty by watching as much as I could in a short amount of time. That's never been my speed and I deserved that burn out.

I'm just curious how ya'll continue to do it? <3

Small breaks is the key.

Taking small breaks between anime will help you to avoid burn out.

I don't have a large list but I have experienced burn out for anime over the years.

Sometimes I take breaks for a couple of days, sometimes I put anime on in the background and play games at the same time. That's what I've been doing with DBZ (dubbed), and I'm around 70 episodes away from completion.

I learned it's best to wait after new shows end so that I can binge (with a few exceptions), it's quite a hassle to keep up every week, especially with 20-30 shows all at once. That way, I can focus on binging entire series at my own pace like I am doing rn with DB.

I usually watch what interests me with the seasonal shows, along with 1-2 series that I 100% complete before moving on. I have a queue of 5-10 series in my On Hold list and that helps me with choosing a series to watch, or to put on hold.

I am among those who really want to get done with my PTW list, which in the present have 1000+ ANIMEs & more are being added.
------------------------------------------------

I like to sit watching ANIME, only after i complete other tasks which are Essential with them as priority. Once i'm done it's all fun.

One thing for sure, it will most likely break my daily routine. Now it's up to me what i consider "essential priority".

That's it for me.

I don't care about seasonals, picking only 0 to 3 of anime from each season.
I watch 2 to 10 titles at the same time, choosing what to watch right now depending on the current mood.
If I don't have mood for a certain anime, I put it on hold and wait for a perfect time.
Also, I don't hesitate to drop many things.
Oh, and there is the vast world of manga with many great things you'll never experience in anime.

I don't really have a big list so this probably isn't really aimed at me but I can relate to trying to watch a lot of anime in a short timespan since I once tried to watch like 10 seasonals and it came back to bite me in the end.

Just don't force yourself to watch anything. Don't be afraid to drop and if you don't feel like watching anime take a break. After all watching anime isn't a race and it's not like the shows are going anywhere so don't feel pressured to watch anime if you aren't in the mood for it. I took a long break from anime for the past few years and only really watched some movies & hyped seasonals, but now I got back into it and suddenly here I am finishing 20+ episode anime in a week (which used to be really rare for me lol)

I try to watch at most 5-6 seasonals at once, but most of the time after dropping a few in the first weeks of the season it gets around 3 or 4; plus I have one "serious" and one "lighthearted" anime in my CW list that are not seasonals (Hyouge Mono and Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki right now) and I watch those when I have the right mood for them - there are times when I am binging them other times I don't touch any of them for weeks. If there is not one (or too few) seasonal that interests me then I would rewatch some old show. This way I have succesfully been keeping away the burning-out from me for years. A large CW list would kill my mood too.

Watch 24-26 episodes (watch 2 cour per day basically) of anime in a span of 1.5 year daily. I'm slowing down now though, because I seen enough, and nothing's gonna top my favorites anyway.

My tip is to just not force yourself to watch more than you want to. Some anime are really intriguing and are like a 1-2 day binge, but some feel like its taking forever to get through regardless of how good it is. Let yourself watch like 2 episodes that day if thats all you feel you have any brain cells left for. Don't feel you need to stay on an anime either, especially when it's super long. You can just come back to it later.

I'm also just facing with recovery of a major burnout in addition to school burnout (winter break yay.) Thats just what I noticed up there. Ye since I'm super busy with school I don't have time to watch anime anymore. Sometimes I will actually watch some anime, and when I do, it's great. Reminds me of when I was first starting anime when it was actually fun. Do yall know what I mean? Like when you're excited about smt new.

It's my hobby, for the past 17 years. I like it and love it. When a new season starts, it gets more fun to find new and interesting shows. Like this winter season, bloody hell there're a lot to watch.
I work on weekdays and watch on weekends. Starting friday night. That's how it has gone for a long time. Since I don't like spending time and money hanging at pubs.

for starters remove hundreds of anime on your Plan To Watch List so that you will not see it as so big and procrastinate later because of how huge time it will take to finish them

I'm not in a hurry to watch the latest episode of the seasonal or finish the completed ones I just watch at my own pace and don't hesitate in dropping the ones I find boring so I never faced this issue.

I watch anime for 4 decades, but still my list is kind of average in length.
In the beginning I was forced to take long breaks...there was literally nothing available to watch.
Nowadays there's an ocean of available anime but still the old habits are kicking in and a am taking short breaks. Also I avoid binge watching with the exception of the rewatches.
For some reason binging unfamiliar shows burns me out (even if I really enjoy the experience) but binging familiar shows doesn't.

The OP should find the source of his burning out - it varies from person to person.

If you keep watching anime long enough your list will eventually get big and it doesn't matter if you watch a lot or a little.

That being said tho as others have mentioned don't watch a lot of anime in a short amount of time, the fastest way to burn yourself out is having anime marathons.
And many people don't start watching again after they get burned out.

My advice is to limit the amount you watch maybe an anime per week or just a few episode, i would say 3 or 4 episodes a day at max.
Personally i just watch seasonals and i don't pick up many of them, this season i am watching about 7 anime but it depends on season the most was about 15 anime but have not done that in a long time.

basically exactly this. i dont add that much /specials/shorts/ovas and stuff so its not as much as them, but i do this and lately has been less because my favorites probably wont be topped

I made a concentrated effort to watch some seasonal in the fall but I've put on hold a couple of them as it was too much. I've decided to wait on a lot of them to finish and focus on binge watching complete seasons.

I've still got a few ongoing fall shows PLUS new shows for winter season too now.

I read that as something else and I was trying to make sense of how can a small size get you a big list. I think I need a break too.

I just watch what I think is interesting and alternate between those couple of shows while watching my seasonals right now its Sailor Moon,Ranma 1/2, and Space Battleship Yamato season 2. Its probably going to be harder this season as there are a TON of stuff I want to watch.

If I can't keep up with something that just means it wasn't entertaining enough to keep me hooked so I just delete it off my list instead of adding it to the dropped section unless it really is THAT bad or terribly average that I do not want to pick it up ever again. If I added all the stuff I lost interest in over the past few seasons I would be almost at 100 dropped.

I watch things at random times and just BLAZE through the show and any sequels it has. I'm really lazy, and I really wanna get through my plan to watch list, so I kinda HAVE to binge stuff. If I stop mid way through, I end up putting it on hold and I never finish them.

BUT, I will get through it! ....Someday lol

My list doesn't look large because I only started tracking recently, but I'm at 1000+ watched at least. My secret is being alive for longer than the average anime fan. I usually watch a variety of genres depending on my mood, so I don't really feel any burnout and the experience doesn't go stale. I don't watch daily because I like to binge-watch, and that's not an option with my work schedule. When I feel like watching something but don't have anything specific in mind, I use a randomizer. My PTW list isn't exactly what I plan to watch, more like a pool of shows that may be interesting, so I don't feel the urge to watch everything in it.

Don't watch each seasonal weekly. Watch in spurts and rotate. It's easier that way

If you're talking about in general and not seasonals, then focus on several (at most 5) so you don't feel overwhelmed. You can focus on a different franchise per day

It's not an issue with juggling large lists after you get going. I simply watch them as I go. In the event that I run out of anime to fill my free time I find myself on a mission to fill that time with anime I might of missed. Eventually the list fills itself.

Regarding that I'm watching anime since I'm like 7, my list is not THAT long. Sometimes I watched more, sometimes less and I also take it easy. I'm not forcing myself to watch every seasonal and if I want to watch more of the seasonals, I can still do it in half a year, a year or in two or three years. The series won't run away.

Pretty easy for me. Watch what I want when I want and don't stress about it like I'm under some arbitrary obligation to watch everything under the sun. While I have watched a lot, I'm fully aware I'll never see it all which I'm perfectly fine with. Also, don't be afraid to take breaks, even extended ones.

Just don't force yourself. I have a small list but I think I can understand what you're saying. Just watch what you feel right now. Even if it's a rewatch, just do it. If you don't feel like it, then don't watch anything. I juggle between job, bass guitar and piano playing, playing games, and anime. One thing I learned is just do what you want when you want to. In my case, for my musical instruments, which I force myself at least 20mins daily to practice basics.

I tend to watch 3 shows at a time with them often been different genres ie one shonen, one mecha etc. Then I'll watch 4/5 eps of one before moving onto the next. Keeps things fresh, works for me and my mates 👍 obvs take small breaks if your feeling burnt out.
