Does anyone forget characters names during a show sometime it gets so confusing its like half the characters are calling a character by there first name then the other half are calling there second name then they have a nickname too plus i find it hard to seperate the names a few of them can be quite similar sounding and its not like its for one character either there will be a bunch of them doing it, you have like 12 names associated with 5 characters, i find myself halfway into an episode and jumping on wiki to remind myself who the hell they gossiping about lol.

during the show? no. right after it? yes. I have simply watched too many shows with so many repetative names and designs it's all a blur.

I'm usually pretty good at that, but if a show has a character who I do not give a shit about and does not mention them for like 3-4 episodes, it's gonna take me a little bit to remember who it is. Anime side characters are sometimes just really bland, even in good shows, and I can't help but tune them out

Ah yup. In western shows I’m good enough at names cause I can remember names like Jake or Tim because I’m familiar with them. That is not the case with Japanese shows. With MHA, I got class 1A down, but omg. I do not know any of the names of the Pro-heros. I can not tell you what All-Might’s name is. I think Eraserhead is Azalya or something. And I’m currently watching Lucky Star DUB in the background as I do things and I’m not sure who everyone’s name is yet

Yes, I forget the names of the characters pretty often. Unless they have a memorable name or are the main part of the story.

YES!!!!!!! I am absolutely garbage with names even in real life. I will often call characters things like "Sister 2", "Guy With Hat", "Mr. Definitely Not 14-Years-Old". Just whatever my brain assigns to them in the moment I meet them. I usually keep a character list up next to me in case I forget who is who. Madoka Magica and Ouran are the shows where I think I remember the names of all the characters. It's a real problem ahahaha.....

not really forget, but more of confused as to which name to call to them since some characters will be referred to as both their family and given names by the people around them. and it's made worse if there's roughly equal numbers of both and neither are predominant

There always seem to be that one side character with a familiar name that you always remember, like you got all these japanese named characters then 1 side character just called dave lol obviously not that common but you get my point, i think the name that stood out most to me was Ctholly from worldend

On 12-24 episodes anime, yes. On long stream animes, usually no. It's totally fine to forget username, unique looks are there for that purpose, japanese names are hard to remember for people who aren't fluent with japanaese, too.

I've only seen the anime so far, but the pillars are popular enough to where everyone I know remembers their names and talks abt them.... I usually call them by whatever their pillar title is, but Rengoku is "Spicy Chicken Man" and Tokitou is "Just Hatsune Miku". Get a lot of flack for those two, ahaha

While I was watching Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu, I almost always forgot the names of supporting characters. Luckily, the animators added name and rank of every character whenever they showed up on the screen, so that helped me a lot.

I tend to forget names if the characters are not memorable, as simple as that.

And I also forget names if I have seen the anime long ago, and there are no new seasons and/or I am not reading it's source material.

Normally I don't care as long I remember what I want to remember.

All. The. Time. For shows for mangas... Even if I read /have watched them in one bit.

To be fair I also never remember anyone's name in real life so that's that.

I have to go back and look up their names to remember who they were or who they were talking about etc.

It comes down to what characters we're talking about.

Do you have 16 different characters and only a few of them barely stand out? Gonna be an issue with remembering any of them. Especially if you don't really care about most of them.

A few characters and you like them? Probably should know their names or at least take the time/effort to learn their names. Especially if you're gonna talk about your waifu/husbando/best girl/w/e take the time to learn their name.

In the end the most memorable characters will be remembered after the show ends and the rest of the cast forgotten. Sometimes a shame with supporting characters never really getting the spotlight and becoming great.

if the character is not that memorable (literally doing nothing to the story) I would forget.
Though most of the times im sharp on names. Say it one time, i will remember it throughout the series.

I can't be bothered to remember the names of all characters, unless they'e important enough or stand out in another way, I'm watching too much for that. Usually it's enough to remember the main characters anyway and as last resort there's fortunately also the MAL page with all characters listed, very convenient.

There are of course some exceptions, for most parts longer series like One Piece, Naruto, Black Clover, etc. where I automatically remember all the names due to being more invested. Characters are also more unique/striking compared to the average joe in a school comedy that goes for 12 episodes.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

I have good memory so I don't usually forget. I associate difficult japanese names with their kanji so it's easier to remember. Aria was one show I had trouble with because there are a lot of similar names and all of them start with an a.

This happens more often when reading manga so I have a wiki page on standby. Mostly because many characters are mentioned with their nicknames plus there are many secondary characters that play minor roles yet are often mentioned but hardly shown
