The Toaru Majutsu no Index stage at the Dengeki Bunko 25th Anniversary Aki no Dengekisai event this past Sunday announced a TV anime adaptation of Kazuma Kamachi and Arata Yamaji's Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator (A Certain Scientific Accelerator) manga, scheduled to air in 2019. Nobuhiko Okamoto and Rina Hidaka will reprise their respective character roles as Accelerator and Last Order from the earlier anime adaptations in the franchise.

A third anime season of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun was also announced at the event. The main cast members are set to reprise their roles.

Nobuharu Kamanaka (Big Order (TV)) will direct Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator at J.C.Staff. Tatsuyuki Nagai will return to direct the third Toaru Kagaku no Railgun season at the same studio.

Synopsis
The espers of Academy City are classified into six levels, where "Level 0" lacks power and "Level 5" possesses an overwhelming amount. Of the several million espers residing in Academy City, only seven of them have attained Level 5, and ranked highest among them is the one known as Accelerator.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator focuses on the strongest Level 5 after he protects the cheerful Last Order at the price of much of his power. Recovering at the hospital, Accelerator has led a relatively quiet life until he ends up saving the life of Estelle Rosenthal, a mysterious girl carrying a photo of Last Order. Unfortunately, Accelerator now finds himself dragged into a new conflict in the form of a sinister organization called Disciplinary Action which plots to use Last Order for a dangerous mission. Now that they have set their plan into motion and are in pursuit of the young girl, it's up to the world's most powerful esper and his newfound companion to protect Last Order and defend Academy City in the process. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The fantasy super-power manga has been serialized in Dengeki Daioh since December 2013. The ninth compiled volume will go on sale on October 11. North American publisher Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in March 2015 and published the seventh volume on January 1. The eighth volume is planned for a February 12 release next year.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun began its serialization in Dengeki Daioh in February 2007. Kadokawa will publish the 14th compiled volume on October 11. The series inspired multiple side story novel and manga adaptations. A spin-off manga titled Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Gaiden: Astral Buddy launched in the same magazine last April and has two volumes in print as of September 27.

J.C.Staff produced two 24-episode anime seasons in Fall 2009 and Spring 2013, adapting the first six volumes and the earlier chapters of the seventh volume. Geneon Universal Entertainment (now NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan) released a standalone OVA in October 2010. The Blu-ray and DVD volumes and official visual books also included OVA and special episodes.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in July 2010 and published the 13th volume on June 13. Funimation licensed the anime series in North America and released the first season on DVD in April 2013 and the Blu-ray later on in January 2015. The second season was distributed on DVD between July and August 2014 and on Blu-ray in January 2016.

A truly wholesome year for Index fans.

But the director for Accelerator is worrying though. And I swear if Nagai did his original arc shit all over again....

if there are no filler, then the anime would catch the latest manga chapter (like one piece).

This is incredible! After they've blessed us with Index III anime this year, more Toaru related news about anime adaptations are still coming. Not only am I very delighted to see a third season for Railgun, but I'm also hyped for the upcoming anime of Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator!

What a time to be alive! ;w;

Well, they don't have just manga material to adapt for Railgun 3, there's also novel material, the arts city arc was teased alot in Railgun 2, so it's very likely gonna happen in 3 (though I have no idea how long this arc is, I haven't read the novel, only know that it exists). ^^;

There's gonna be a big announcement for the series when Index 3 ends. With Railgun and Accel already on the table, NT adaptation is practically confirmed by now.

They confirmed Accelerator for 2019 but never did that with Railgun. I don't see them airing any of the Toaru series consecutively so since Index III would end in Winter 2019, Accelerator might be coming in Summer 2019 at the earliest. Assuming it will be 1-cour only, Railgun S3 would be in Winter 2020 at the earliest. I could be proven wrong but I just dont wanna think about them rushing things with J.C. Staff having full stuff on their plate now.

Pretty much expected when Index III was announced it said "Toaru Project" so the implication was there.

Edit: Also Big Order Director for Accelerator yikes.

It just keeps getting better! Excellent piece of news!

I’ve heard great things about the Accelerator Spinoff, so it’s finally about time J. C. Staff provides! But what I’m personally looking forward to most now is Railgun S3, because I absolutely enjoyed both Seasons of it and I just enjoy the cast a lot! Great news, again! Can’t wait to check these both out and hopefully they’ll be adapted till the very end too. Arigatou J. C. Staff, keep it up!

You're right, i agree. Didn't notice there was no date on Railgun 3 so i assumed that it would be next year as well. Then, somewhere around 2020 seems to be a clear option for Railgun 3 to happen. At least this way they'll make the franchise more consistent for its viewers, and in the meantime, while we wait for it, we'll get to watch Index III and Accel.

Definitely not Railgun and Accelerator on the same year, as they have also got the Konosuba Movie and OPM S2. I’m expecting the Accelerator spinoff to be in Fall 2019 and Railgun not earlier than Summer 2020.
Fall ‘18 - Spring ‘19 - To Aru Index S3
Spring ‘19 - Summer ‘19 - OPM S2
One Season break and then Fall ‘19 - Accelerator Spinoff and Summer ‘20- Railgun S3

Railgun anime-original arcs (don't use the word "filler" for the things it does not mean) may be not for everyones taste but they had one good point — they gave conclusions to a story of some good secondary characters (Harumi Kiyama and Shinobu Nunotaba) while Kamachi himself just forgot about them after adding them to the respective arcs of the manga.

It's filler, deal with it.

I'm quite a bit more interested in Railgun 3 than in the Index season 3 TBH. Railgun season 3 means that that scene is going to get animated right? And that we're getting a lot of focus on miss number 5? Noice.
If only theuy could adapt the Railgun SS rather than do some fillers as a complement, that would be perfect.

Wow. So not only another A Certain Magical Index spinoff is getting an anime adaptation, but Railgun is getting a third season as well? Fucking hell. That's some very exciting news right there.

With how much Railgun SS was teased in Railgun 2, I find it very likely that it's going to be a part of Railgun 3.
Railgun SS was even mentioned at the very end of Railgun 2 (in the final episode they said it was "tomorrow").

More Mikoto is always great news.
It would be perfect if they made LAC+Daihasei+Dream Ranker, I think it can work with 26 episodes. Ah, I almost forgot about Fanfare, it would make sense if it is animated. Heh, they can adapt Cold Game too, really a lot of material to work
