THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So, that was a series of fights....also this is a triple length episode, so that's...something I guess.

We finally learned a bit about Arlette. Took until the end of the series to do so. before anyone asks, yes, the raw version already came out

What a waste of time this series was. I'm gonna say it, this is now the worst Gundam anime I've ever seen. 2/10

Zut, you took my place!

Enjoyment: 1/5

Score: 2/10 (And my score too.)
With the choppy nature of this web series, the apparent dropping of the story, the unfaithfulness to the novel and loss of any interest it had, and the addition of a new gunpla Mobile Armor model, I dare to say this was nothing more than a too lengthy toy commercial.

@CodeBlazeFate The truth: Anime ja nai ! It wasn't supposed to be an anime.
The Origin official website said:
Q: - You are also producing the newly begun "MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM Twilight AXIS," aren't you, Mr. Taniguchi?

Taniguchi: Origin Studio is producing "Twilight AXIS" as well. There was talk of producing something in collaboration with Ark Performance. At first we even considered going in a "picture drama" direction, where there's not much movement, but I just couldn't go along with that. If we're going to spend that much time and effort, I wanted something that would be animated, so we did that. We hired Mr. (Sejoon) Kim, who is an acquaintance of mine, as director on "Twilight AXIS," and the mechanical animation director Mr. (Shingo) Abe. They're at the heart of that and they're in their thirties, and unlike THE ORIGIN, they're animating everything in the hand-drawn style. In terms of era, it's close to "UC," and several new mobile suits appear. We're aiming to create a new feeling with the project. It seems like they thought I could keep working on Gundam since I've been in charge on "THE ORIGIN." I'm producing them both simultaneously.

@robotical It's an episodic web novel. You can read a translation for free at Zeonic Republic/Scanlation.
Warning: the last episodes had little to do with the virtual book.

It's a disgrace to the franchise and while I may not hate this the most, it's the absolute worst in the franchise. It is vapid nothingness with a nothing plot that still has tons of holes. Characters are nothing.

The background music was so beautiful. Mesmerising. Regardless of the small number of tracks. A glimpse into Arlette's background was intriguing as well. The pyscho-phenomenon was off-putting, though. An odd way to end a series.

A bit of a shame really. Lukewarm.

Yes, I myself have thought that Gundam should not really go into "supernatural" phenomenon, but then again, it is a science fiction in a future, Mass Effect also started quite realisticly. For what it is worth, this mini series did a good job just existing.

Nice animation here and there, that's it.
What should have I expected from adaption of a light novel into montage of 2 minute shorts each episode anyway?

Yikes, though the last episode was an improvement over the previous ones, there's still very little to praise about this. I liked whatever that mobile suit Danton was in though.
Really wish they could've done a proper OVA for this since what little of the plot that was understandable seemed kinda interesting?? I wasn't a huge fan of that newtype magic stuff that happened, but maybe it would've been more tolerable if we were given more information about the plot and characters. Maybe I'll give the manga or whatever the source material is a go eventually, but this OVA just left a really bad taste in my mouth overall.

What a waste, I saw glimpses of a potential good story lost in the middle of this mess, they should have made a movie out of this or maybe a 40 something minutes long OVA, anything that made this feel like an actual story, this felt more like a collection of a video game cutscenes.

Literally the only cool part about this is how Danton's last mobile suit resembles the Vigna Ghina. Everything else was pointless and stupid.

Can someone who read the actual novel explain how different the last few episodes were from the novel's chapters?

I want an anime focusing on how Cyber-Newtypes survives (like the clips that focused on that from this short) and how they escape/adapt/fight it would be a great compliment to the main series.

ppl who arbitrarily hate this are pretentious and self entitled tbh. i didn't have a single problem with it and in fact welcomed the shorter runtime like a true gundam fan would.

True, the compilation is better and well paced, the direction is amazing, the characters and stories are well introduced and developed. I guess people nowadays are dumb enough to not know how to enjoy not linear stories anymore, because it is quite simple and well shown in this anime.

one of the most pointless anime installations I've ever seen in my life. I gave no shits about that dump of backstory to try to justify anything.

It's a shame since the animation quality was pretty good.

WTF are you talking about? It's not a multiple path visual novel, it's a animation. The story was linear, dumbass.

And the sequence of the scenes, non-chronological order of short clips of miscellaneous events, is what made this series a fucking mess. There is nothing for the viewer to really sinking their teeth into. I understood the gist of the story, but can you imagine reading a manga with a page order of: 1-6-2-8-3-7-4-9-5-10, etc? It's fucking ridiculous, so gtfo with that high raise.

What correlation does "series run time" have to do with being a "true gundam fan?" Like, did you just make that shit up, or is there fractal evidence to the bullshit your spiting?

This is how you know someone doesn't know shit about what they are talking about. Funnily enough, today I was looking into TA volume 3 and guess what, it works really like a visual novel, being different from both the anime (web), anime (OVA) and the novel. For example, the Kurwenal and the Ahava Azieru are anime only, the final client in the dry cleaner wasn't the feddie guy and it was the Fermo Brothers and so on, so it was pretty much different.

"There is nothing for the viewer to really sinking their teeth into. I understood the gist of the story, but can you imagine reading a manga with a page order of: 1-6-2-8-3-7-4-9-5-10, etc? It's fucking ridiculous, so gtfo with that high raise."

Well, guess what even the manga did it? It was not chronological too, you jump into times of Zeon, Axis Zeon, Neo Zeon and so on, with the characters (this is where there isn't even the problem of: "wah wah, I dont know when it is, because the character designs sets clearly when it is when it looks younger or older)

"but can you imagine reading a manga with a page order of: 1-6-2-8-3-7-4-9-5-10"

yeah, you can do it if you want, there is no one stoping you, so if anybody wants to read it this way, they can.

Twilight Axis is fucking good, simply as that, Ark Performance is simply one of the best gundam writers, and Sejoon Kim is a fucking beast directing a small project that grew out of just a picture drama to a small story where every personal aspect of both creators shows in their respective mediums.

so go be a pleb somewhere else.

Why would anyone read a manga in a random page order? Because they want to? Who wants to do that? GTFO with that noise and face it, this adaptation was complete shit.

Becaus they can, because they want.

I for example, alwasy start reading a book by the last page, not the last chapter, just the last page, then go back to the first then go on.

Why do I do this? Because I can and I want. Trailers work the same way and people still enjoy it, if you can't even get into a non linear story, the problem isn't the thing, it may be as well yourself.

I won't say it was terrible but this was too short to amount too much
The characters are barely developped, the plot is minimal.
The animation is good I guess but that's not enough to make it a good anime.

Final episode was longer than the usual. I dont' care about anything expect for random Char and Lalah camoes. The reason of why is was made like that is still a mystery for me. This is the nineth Gundam I've started watching and my nineth completed Gundam 4/10 for the anime.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Why the hell did this have so much effort into the art and music if they were going to waste it all on a jumbled mess like this. If your gonna do a incomplete adaption just pull a gundam astray and make a cool short ova that adapts a tiny bit not this jumbled mess

The score is probably a bit too harsh but yeah, this was just a big nothing. It could have been way better if got more than, uhm, 5% of the potential plot.
