| Reading the article in question, it seems that the tweet referenced #pepe explicitly, meaning that Jim Hoft and Lucian Wintrich were imitating the character. The character has also been adopted by a symbol of some on the alt-right including Stephen Spencer. If it weren't for the fact we're talking about a stupid internet meme, it wouldn't really be all that ridiculous. I would prefer if groups like "Media Matters" would stop doing stuff like this because it's obviously not working, makes them look out of touch and makes people like Hoft look down to earth and fun. Which is ridiculous. There's nothing cool about being Conservative, especially a basement dwelling conservative. |
