6. 5 is not a positive score due to it being in the lower half of the spectrum (1-10). 6 is in the higher spectrum, so it only makes sense. Even then 6 isn't THAT positive.

Given that 5 is average, then 6 would probably the ones that fall under this category..

I might be a little odd here, but I consider 8 to be the last positive score. 7 is rather neutral and under that it's all negative. I think that would explain my meanscore...

6 when the animation and soundtrack saves the anime, 5 when only the animation saves the anime. so yeah, for me it's either 5 or 6

i consider a 6 a "meh" score... where like, you found it watchable and got some enjoyment out of it

anything below that, im gonna assume you just hated it

The lowest good one I can give is a 6. Any series that gets that score had some good moments but it was kinda like a drag for me to watch overall.

Anything below that means that I agonizingly went through it almost without any enjoyment at all ,_,

if the anime has 40% unappealing things or more (by giving it 6), i'd say it as negative. 7 is the least positive number in my rating.

For me it'd be 6. 5 is something like 'I've watched it but i didn't feel anything, it's not good or bad so i wouldn't recommend it'

6 is something i could talk about and be say something like " Yeah that was an alright anime if you have spare time maybe you should watch it "

I consider a 6 to be the lowest positive score. I consider this rating to be decent, as in I didn't mind watching it, however it was good enough to be memorable. I would recommend it to someone, but only if it fits the criteria of the recommendation that they want. And I wouldn't rewatch it unless there was another season coming out, and I wouldn't to refresh my memory since it wasn't memorable to begin with.

5 Being totally shit, 7 is average, average being the lowest positive qualification.

I agree~ 1-4 are reserved for the worst things I've watched.
7 being good and 8 being very good.
But 6 is already a meh for me~

I'm an easy man: 1-4 for bad shows; 6-10 for good shows; 5 is for so-so shows

To emphasize what is good and bad, i.e.:

Steins;Gate is 6, ergo good show
Code Geass is 4, ergo bad show
Psycho-Pass is 5, ergo so-so

Though the threshold for acknowledging 'recommendable' shows is 8-10.

Realistically, 6 is the lowest positive rating. It was something that I am glad got tackled, and despite plenty of problems, I'd consider it a net gain for my anime viewing experience.

Technically though, 5. Because there are a few things rated '5' which I do think back on time to time (The Black Rock Shooter TV series). But for the most part, things rated 5 are things that I felt added nothing significant to my anime-viewing experience.

Personally a 6. I would recommend a 6 to certain types of people/more forgiving fans. Below that isn't worth watching.

6 is my lowest positive rating too, it means that I didn´t really like the show but is not bad, not the same as 5 that is average, something really meh.
And 4 is my highest negative rating.

Feel pretty much the same way here :P

Anything 8 above gets a good recommendation from me
7 is worth watching, would probably only recommend it if it pops up in a conversation
6 is alright, watch it if you want but I wouldn't tell you to watch

6-10 : more positives than negatives
5 : positives and negative aspects are equal
4: still has positive aspects, but negatives beginning to outweigh them
3-1: mostly negative
The truth is best told straight.

everything from 4-10 in my list could be good and get a recommendation but at the same time everything from 1-6 could be bad.
1-3: bad
4: i dislike the show for some reason but it's not necessarily "bad"
5: i don't have any positive or negative emotions towards the show
6: i kinda like the show (even if i would consider it to be "bad")
7-10: good

for music i usually use:
4: dislike
5: don't care
6: like
a rly good music entry could get a higher score tho. if something like ME!ME!ME! would have it's own entry it would propably get a 9 or a 10

6 because is not positive it's just mehhhhh. Or 5 could be sucking very hard but have good voice acting or good animation so it would be unfair to judge it only by the plot or characters.

1. I have rated some shows with a 1 that I have watched at least 10 times. The worst rating I give to a show though seems to be 3-4. Because I probably would never watch any of those again.
I have probably watched this more than any anime on my entire list and yet I gave it a 1. I have shown it to so many people. I laugh so hard when I watch it. I get much pleasure. I can't explain. It is crap though. I feel sorry for the manga it is based on.

6. A 5 is something that gave me no reaction, positive or negative. Didn't do anything wrong but didn't do anything right. A 6 did a few things I liked.

In my opinion, 6 is the lowest positive rating, due to it being the first number in the upper half of the ratings. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are bad while 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 are good, that way I separate anime in exactly 2 kinds of ratings.

The lowest positive score for me is a 7. It shows that despite the negatives in it, it was still enjoyable enough for me to finish it. Anything lower than that was me sitting there after the last and going "what the **** did I just watch" 7 and up were like "hey that's pretty gud"

Funny that almost everyone in this thread agree that it's 6 and yet MAL average ratings are around 8.00 for most shows that are at least decent.

Personally it's 6 for me as well. 5 is a neutral, mediocre score.

After a great deal of repeat topics I think the AD regulars have convinced the more-quiet forum frequenters that 6 being positive and 5 being not-negative is an equally reasonable (if not more reasonable) stance in comparison to using a 7 to denote typical experiences rather than noteworthy ones. I remember when I first started posting in AD it was still a hotly contested topic, with those in favor of 7 being average being greater in number.

Whether the general change in thinking is beginning to extend beyond the forums, I don't know. Unfortunately, even if it does, we are still left with the plethora of users who've stopped using MAL who used such inflated scoring systems, meaning MAL's sitewide averages likely won't be changing for already-aired shows anytime soon

However, given that airing shows still seem to be getting scores based on the same inflated scale, this line of thinking is probably still confined to AD for the most part. It doesn't help that many newcomers may look at old scores and think "this new show is just as good/better, so I should rate it just as high/higher", which reinforces MAL's current standard.

5 - average anime
6 - above average
7 - good anime, would recommend to others
8 - amazing anime, only a handful of them
9 - few of my favorite anime of all time
10 - nothing is perfect

My lowest positive score is actually 5.5- since I am also using the tag to give more accurate score.

My mean score is around 6.0 as I stay away from obvious bad shows.

as the vast majority said, 6 for me as well.
6 is the most important threshold, because I grant that score only to those series which I thoroughly enjoyed and/or that left a long-lasting positive aftertaste.
The rest of my rating scale is "comparative", but 6 has a specific meaning.

8 is the lowest to be positive. I hardly dislike an anime I watch. It has to be really bad for me to drop an anime or manga.
