| We anime-viewers are not the first to admire the beauty that are nekomimi. In ancient Egypt a fair amount of lore was devoted to Bastet and the Chinese came up with stories about the nekomata. Now, the Chinese are weird, and the Egyptians are obvious furries, but why does the anime community find catgirls so appealing? Most of the anime community aren't truly furries, yet they enjoy seeing girls with animal-ears and tails. Is it because men are inherently horrible and fantasize about treating women as their pet? Is it because catgirls are objectively HOT? Do you like catgirls? Why (not)? And how about catboys, are those just as appealing? |

If it was like that then dog girls would had been more popular, because dogs adores humans, while cats don't give a shit about us, and most probably consider us their pets. If I think about it, as I am the owner of 3 cats, cats have something very feminine in them. They know how to behave gracious around you, manipulate you and atract you towards the fridge and things like that. They kind of create the same fascination that beautiful womans do... I mean, think about it, what are 2 of the most accessed things on internet? Porn and cat videos. So that kind of explaine the fetish for the cat girls. |

So when you combine the two it is like a sensory overload. It's not gender specific either. Many girls enjoy nekomimi features too. and then there is also this... :3 So logically, you can come to three conclusions. One, humans have terrible desires in mates. Two, people like it because it takes something cute (bishounen or moe type girl) and makes it even cuter. Or three, cats have already taken over the world. I prefer the latter. :3 |

However, Nekomata are fucking dangerous in Japanese mythology, they were initially cats that were abused and neglected all their life before they died, they can cause fires, raise the dead, cause occurrences (all bad) that have no explanation whatsoever. Humans and other mammals are biologically fairly similar and giving someone of the opposite sex some minor visual traits of another animal can make them more attractive. This is probably a bullshit answer, but what humans find attractive is really difficult to find any clear answers to. You failed to mention best catboy. |
