THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well, the OST is used in an interesting way this episode. And now only that but the concept of love can be quite something as well.

Otherwise, I find Mitsuko's intimidation to be interesting this episode as well. The taunting she performs was over the line but well done on most parts. Add that with the bear gimmick and this episode turned out to be memorable imo.

There seems to be a fairly broad consensus among fans that Kureha's gun is
a Remington M750 Woodsmaster gas-operated semi-automatic hunting rifle.
To see this, please compare these two images posted by a fan on Twitter:
Kureha's gun: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B7Z6j-MCAAAiw1w.png
A M750 rifle: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B7Z6jVjCMAIrNiU.jpg
Here are all of the specifications of the Remington M750:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Model_750
I have not seen any fans comment on the kind of cartridge that she is using.
However, the Wikipedia article lists some of the possibilities. Based on that,
I think it should be possible to figure it out by looking closely at the shell
casings that come tumbling out as Kureha is firing. Given that Kureha is
shooting at bears, the bullets have to have sufficient stopping power.

As well, one fan pointed out that, given Kureha's likely age and given the
laws in Japan, it would not be legal for her to possess such a weapon.

A separate issue is that if the rate-of-fire is more than one round every two
minutes or so, the barrel heats up and starts to droop. This makes the aim
inaccurate. This is a defect of a lightweight gun such as the M750.

Let's hope that after a few more episodes, Kureha will take her rifle back
to the gun shop and exchange it for something more suitable.

Yurizono did such a good job in messing kureha up psychologically that I started feeling sorry for her. She even got sumika's glasses & pretended to be her right in kureha's face… madoka magica vibes

For once, a scene made sense to me! The Exclusion ceremony/invisible storm was what it sounded like, the public arbitrarily deciding who is to be the "other."

If the storm is the harmful force, then we can probably equate the storm itself to the community surrounding you: family and classmates. This is because the community is the force which harms others through exclusion. I'm guessing that "becoming invisible" means to join the community's viewpoint. I think this because if the storm is invisible, and the storm is the community, if another person becomes invisible that person would become visually indistinguishable with the storm, and thus the community.

Also, when Kureha and Sumika were protecting the flower bed, they were working against the storm because of their love for the flower bed. If they didn't both come to protect the flower bed, it would've gotten swept away by the storm. If love is the force which protects things from being destroyed by the invisible storm, then I'm guessing the metaphor is that love is the force that protects people from giving in to communal beliefs, and joining in with those beliefs. And I think that's a message that makes sense, given this shows emphasis on lesbians.

So yeah. Good episode. If you don't like symbolism, I have no idea what you're doing watching this.

Love is a really deep topic in this one . Why Lulu and Ginko saved her though ? Because Ginko loves Kureha ? or because they want her for themselves later since she smells so delicious ? :P

I found the three episodes quite underwhelming. The first time I saw the premise I was thinking "Ikuhara is going to let himself loose, and it's going to be awesome!", turn out just "meh", it doesn't make me feel "wow" in the sense of pushing the boundary of TV anime presentation and engrossing story, if you believe whatever he said in interviews, the repetitions aren't as interesting as those in Penguindrum, the story and characters is rather uninspiring and rely heavily on plot twist with little build up so far, the images lack the charm in his previous works, and it doesn't have the same ambitious like Penguindrum. I guess rewatching Shuji Terayama's films doesn't help either. I'm gotta keep my expectation low from now on and probably consider watching the whole thing in one sitting once its airing ends.

I never take what type of guns or cartridges or even laws seriously, well basically everything we see on screen is just a huge metaphour like in Synecdoche, New York. I just interpret the firearm as a metaphor of Kureha's (or anyone, given that we also see Mitsuko has a gun ) ability to inflict damage on someone, and the effectiveness has to do with her metal state, just like in the first episode she got defeated just in the sight of Mitsuko's glasses, and defeated again by Konomi's wind ability I guess in the second episode, but both times she was unwilling to accept her true feelings towards Sumika, and this episode we see her finally pull herself together and damaged her enemy with her own will. Also, the trial scene and the "fan service" scene after that I just take that as a metaphor of the growing sense of recognition of Kureha's self-acceptance of being a lesbian, given what we have from these three episode. Surprise me, Ikuhara, I don't think this is all you got?

It is obvious now that every character with "yuri" into their name are bear, but I noticed something special about the teacher's case.

First of all, there have two way to write "yuri" in kanji. The first one is 百合, the second one is ユリ.

The "yuri" into the title of the anime is writing ユリ.
The "yuri" into the bears' surname is writing 百合.

In the teacher's case, the "yuri" is writing ユリ and unlike the bears, the "yuri" is in her forename.

So, I have three potential theories about the blonde teacher:

1. She's a bear, the way how yuri is writing and the place into her name is irrelevant.

2. She isn't a bear, her name was only to fool the viewers.

3. She isn't a normal bear, maybe a special category of bear, or half-bear.

Good ep. Well I hope people who were confused got their answers since they pretty much went out of their way here and I wasn't expecting that now.

Also enjoyed Yurizono bit and is she really dead? It just looked like the bullet grazed her and honestly I enjoyed her way too much for that to be the last of her.

Every character that has 'Yuri' in their name has turned out to be a bear, so it's safe to assume she is also a bear. I feel like she ate Kureha's mom (but I could be totally wrong)

There is no way Mitsuko is gone, it didn't really look like Kureha shot her. What I want to know is when Kureha gets all buddy buddy with Lulu and Ginko, since the ED song makes it look like their friends later on.

I've come to find this more enjoyable, but I agree with everyone who said this show is too deep for its own good. Hopefully it changes my mind later on.

So Lulu and Ginko will protect Kureha's love.

So they ate Oniyama because she was after Kureha who was on the EVIL list eh.

Every time she gets a call her love is being challenged.

That place where the flowerbed seems really important.

Mizuno got her arm shot so I doubt she's dead.

The Principal ate Kureha's mother because she loved her. She might go after Kureha next : 0

Loved the episode, especially the bit in the classroom.

The way Mitsuko taunted Kureha with her impression of Sumika was horrible and awesome at the same time.

I'm beginning to piece together the reason girls are going missing based off the class scene and the one at the end, but I'll need the next episode to fully understand it.
