I'd have to go with elitists. Mainly because it's just more fun to talk to and watch anime together with a casual than it would an elitist.

"Ugh, you know I liked this show so much better when X was doing the artwork and animation, the entire thing just throws me off and makes me dislike the show while looking like a total asshat"

I'd rather spend time watching anime with someone who is going to actually enjoy the show without pointing out criticals that don't even matter.

I enjoy watching anime more with (according to MAL) "elitists" friends. We are always discussing anime we are watching, pointing out it flaws, laugh at them and its really fun. I was watching anime with guy you could call casual few years ago and he was very emotive about it, was surprised by every predictable plot twist and shouted some weird stuff during action scenes. It was extremely annoying. Not to mention that I felt really weird sitting next to him and watching that anime apathetically while he was making fuss about how amazing it was.

So yeah, I prefer elitists over casuals any time. I can discuss anime more broadly and enjoy watching it more with elitists.

I don't know, I believe it would go both ways. Your discussion would just change based on what type of viewer they were. You can still enjoy things more broadly, and have just as much discussion either way. While you and your friends would argue about something like how the sound department and animation team did a wonderful job, my group would be discussing plotlines and speculation.

Also your friend just sounds like a weirdo.

Elitists are so annoying imo...casuals are fine, they soon learn and get more into anime, which is good since the more anime fans the better.

Depends on the person.

I'd say casual because the amount of nonsense some of them talk is annoying, especially the ones who argue over Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Fairy Tale and Dragon Ball.

That's funny, in my experience the "elitists" (whatever that means) I've talked to are usually the most open-minded about visuals. But maybe I'm wrong...

I think Elitists are worse. It's the "Anime is better than anything you do" attitude which defines an elitist, and whilst I agree anime is freaking awesome, that's no way to speak to people.

Elitists. There's only so much pretentiousness I can take before I get annoyed

But I get more annoyed with the type of casual fan that refuses to watch an anime that doesn't have a circlejerk surrounded by it

That's a hard one for me.
I'm running into casuals offline left and right nowadays and they can be a bit annoying. You say you don't like a show (usually something popular) and they come at you with verbal daggers. Goodness. I think this would go under casual elitists though... or maybe I'm just being the elitist in that situation?

Casuals can say some silly things, but more often than not, you can suggest something to them and they'll actually say, "Now that I've seen [certain anime], I have to take back what I said; NaruSasu actually isn't the best pairing in the world". Good, good.

Then there are elitists that are always asking you if you've watched [certain anime]. You say no and they're just like, "ugggh you're a casual". Like damn, bro. Give me a break here. We just don't watch the same things. You like NaruSasu, I like other things.

Definitions always seem to change.
Personally, I try to stick with a definition that at least fits into everyone's definitions-- at least the majority's definitions. It's hard though.;;

Almost as hard as it is to accept the lack of NaruSasu.

Then they're not elitists, they're people who are receptive to anything that comes to way, and don't flaunt their tastes. Elitists are closed-minded and haughty, they'll rip apart anything they don't like and use their taste as an ironic device of mockery without controlling themselves, usually in a malevolent or Machiavellian fashion.

Casual Elitists.

Those who judge anime and their viewers, while only having watched 10 of them or something.

I mean, I know a person who has only watched 11 anime in total and he says "I don't watch your psychological anime because they're so pretentious, hahahahaha" or something like that.

by your definition, i'm probably a semi-elitist, though definitely leaning on the elitist side for i will defend all the shows i love with the utmost passion along with bite as the shows i hate the most with utmost hatred but still open to try things when i hear great feedbacks on them

Lol a weaboo, Now I need to google the meaning.

From urbandictionary

Weeaboo
Someone who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime, etc. and attempts to act as if they were Japanese, even though they're far from it. They use Japanese words but usually end up pronouncing them wrong and sounding like total assholes.

I don't count. I'm not obsessed with Japanese culture or anime. Nor do I act Japanese.

LOL urban dictionary though.

His ratings are wildly inconsistent, gives NGNL a 6 and has Fairy Tail as a 3 when they're both just as bad.

There's a lot more to this world of course. Really can't take how people revolve their lives around anime as if it's the only point of their lives.

It's times like these where the term "casual" and "elitist" kind of speak for their stereotypical buzzwords.

How is that inconsistent? You just think they're the same quality but they are two wildly different anime so there can be hundreds of reasons why he rated them so differently.

Check YouTube for the "Casuals" Any WatchMojo list on the topic of anime has a ton of them.
I don't think I've ever met an elitist though, definition seems to change but when it comes to dubs vs. subs in that case I'm a Elitist.

Casuals in my own opinion (Which seems to be the less popular one but I digress)

Hate talking to people about anime and something like Naruto or SAO are the only things they know. They would be as well as not even knowing of the medium if that's all I can talk about with them in relation to the subject. =(
