Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro

Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro is a Hentai, Romance and another one of Tony Taka’s creations. So you can expect a decent set-up and excellent character designs, in this above average hentai.

There isn’t really much to the story, it is just about your typical teenage boy (Hajime Saisho) who’s a member of the school swim team. Well a new transfer student (Asa Mizushima) catches Hajime’s attention and he pursues her affection until she eventually falls in love with him. But that’s not all, as there’s another girl (Natsume Sorayama) who likes him. Sure with that you usually expect the girls to fight over him, in a heated love triangle, but instead they decide to share him. Now I thought it was pretty senseless, the way the two of them came to the decision to share him, but it’s a hentai so it can be forgiven. So why is it so good? Well the answer to that question falls within the characters and animation.

Hajime is a pretty cool protagonist, seeing how he’s not a creep or a loser and I also realized that his name sounds rather interesting “Beginning” and “End” (not sure if the kanji meaning is different). Nevertheless it’s the girls who truly shine in this hentai and it is interesting seeing the differences they have and I’m not just talking about their different sizes. Though the characters do lack some development, especially Natsume, because we never know the reason why she liked him in the first place.

When it comes to the animation, it’s no surprise that I declare it as the strongest aspect, because not only do the characters look great but so do the summer themed environments. Not to forget that a lot of detail is put into the non-recycled sex scenes, which seem to dominate the series. Shame I can’t say the same positive things about the sounds and sure the seiyuus did do a great job on the main characters, the music is fairly unnoticeable until in gets to the insert songs.

Overall Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro is certainly one hot hentai anime, a bit too hot for words in fact. There are a lot of similar school-based hentai out there but this stands out as one of the better ones. I just wished it was longer, to allow further development with the characters.

ART & SOUND SECTIONS: 9/10 [F-ing great! … Literally!]
For a hentai title, it is very good in both sections. The animation is gorgeous, the girls look gorgeous, the sex looks gorgeous… The rest? Well, yes, most of it is school grounds and bath scenes and even as backgrounds they are very detailed. Multiple camera angles, check. Few repeating clips, check. Cute voices, sad music themes, squeaky body sounds, check. Everything a good hentai needs to have is present. So, why a 9? Because it didn’t have a magic touch. You know, something to say “it looks like nothing else”. Like a bizarre setting or weird visuals; that sort of thing. Nothing bad if it doesn’t but I have come to a point where I prefer hentai with a twist in the formula.

STORY & CHARACTER SECTIONS: 3/10 [A two-timer with no strings attached]
Most hentai don’t give a damn about these sections and yet it is the decisive factor that separates the typical from the great titles. Most anime viewers watch romances without yearning for sex or watch hentai without yearning for romance. Major bummer! This title befalls to the simple setting of two girls sharing one boy they both love. You THINK there is romance but in reality there is none. The boy clearly treats them as fuck things and doesn’t really care about them. Add the fact that he screws ALL the girls in the series, so he is not just a two-timer. There are no personalities for them, as all they do is having sex, without thinking or maturing in any way. The story tries to be sad in the end but it only turns to a “one-night stands, with no strings attached” kind of situation. Clearly an ideal male fantasy; screwing without consequences. I have seen the CGI of the erogame the title was based upon. There is the option of marrying the girl you like in the end. That felt a bit more pleasing to me. Without the sappy happy ending, I feel nothing about the characters OR the story. It is pure porn. I can’t give high marks here. The story and the characters hardly fill two lines.

VALUE & ENJOYMENT SECTION: 8/10 [Non-stop action scenes… And when I say action, I mean sex.]
I will definately watch it many times in the future and won’t skip many parts. Heck, most of it is sex so there is nothing to skip. Very enjoyable and very rewatchable. The thing is, there are not likable characters or interesting story for a full course. Most don’t care about this but I personally do. Thus, I deduct two points, just for that. I want my porn to come with some development; not something hard to ask, right?
