| This is the one MAL event that I make sure to attend, year after year--and this year did not disappoint! Thank you so much to everyone who dedicated their time and energy into making the event happen! Although I did not do an elf-gift (half the fun is the giving!), I like that it was an offering for those who wished to participate but weren't confident in their ability to craft a gift of their own. I hope it cut down on "no shows"! Are there stats anywhere on what shows were most recommended? Or shows that only got rec'ed once? That would be fascinating to see! My Santa, @Murau, did a fantastic job in recommending to me a true overlooked gem! I'll write to him directly on his profile in more detail, but I also wanted to thank him here ^.^ |

I'm kinda midway through Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu and they really are what I was looking for and couldn't be more happy and grateful. <3 I didn't expect Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou to make me laugh so much, its so silly and yet so good, this one will totally get on my favorite spot as a comedy! hahaha The others are good as well! don't get me wrong. haha I'll happily continue with all the rest after I finish the ones I've started (the first and main gifts of yours xD) Wish you all the best. |

I started watching Gosick and I'm enjoying it so far, I love the historical setting and ghost stories going on. Also, Victorique is adorable~ I'm excited to watch the other shows you recommended as well! I wanna thank elf @AlexPaulLEWZ too for insights and comments about the recommendation (* ^ ω ^) And a huge thank you to @deadoptimist for manga recommendations ^^ I was so surprised to receive such a detailed list. I really appreciate the time spent looking for something I would like so I will try to check all of them out! I already started reading Olimpos and I love the philosophical aspect in it. | First of all, thanks to the Elf-pyon team for delivering the gifts. Here's my feedback for the event: This was my first time participating in this event, and thus also my first time being both a Secret Santa and a recipient. My experience being a recipient was a little marred at first (as my Secret Santa recommended something, somehow missing that it was already on my list - more on that below), but the replacement elf recommendations more than made up for it (feedback on those below). As a Secret Santa myself, I admit I had a bit of a hard time picking gifts for my recipient, as our tastes don't have much in common, but managed to pick and send recs of stuff I liked and which weren't on their list before the deadline, so all's well. And now the feedback for my initial Secret Santa and the elf that gave me replacement recommendations: @harrysayshey : You were right that Shield Hero would be something I'd watch, thing is however I had already done so, at least for the 4/5ths of it (was watching it as it aired) and it was therefore on my dropped list. I'll thus give you feedback based on what I thought back when I watched it: I believe I first happened upon it because the whole controversy surrounding the 1st episode. I'm the kind of person that doesn't get what the big deal behind controversies is, and wanted to check things for myself, so I watched that first episode. I thought that what everybody made such a ruckus about wasn't such a big deal, as it was simply a plot device to make Naofumi an outcast. At any rate, I probably thought it was interesting enough to continue watching, and watched it for a fair number of weeks. It was somewhat entertaining at first, even though there was some stupid stuff here and there , but then the 'Pope vs Heroes' arc happened and it all went downhill. I particularly found stupid how , and also that arc dragged on too much, which was exacerbated by the fact I watched it weekly (e.g. 3 weeks had passed and that thing wasn't over yet). I ended up watching up until the 20th episode (out of 25), but by that point I had lost all interest about what would happen next and I dropped it. (Just to be clear, I don't regret having watched it, but wish the plot didn't go downhill like that.). So when I saw that you recommended this, somehow failing to notice it was in my dropped list, I have to admit I felt more than a little disappointed. I thought whether maybe I should try to watch the remaining 5 episodes, but every time I thought about doing so, it seemed like such a chore to do (I have an exceedingly hard time persuading myself to pick up again stuff I dropped), so I ended up leaving it at that. Feel free to imagine I watched those 20 episodes now instead of when it aired, if that makes you feel better. @GanSan : Thank you very much for giving me those replacement Elf recommendations. I had already noticed the existence of both those shows, but had rejected them based on premise alone. In regards to the primary recommendation, Angel Beats, I'm normally not too hot on stuff in which some form of afterlife is the setting, but I felt that having the purgatory be a high school was an interesting take on it. I'm at 7/13 at the time of this writing (ended up watching both Specials too, otherwise I'd be more episodes in), and so far like the comedy and action. In regards to the drama, not too many backstories were shown yet at this point, but I'm interested enough to see what will happen next, both in regards to plot and to backstories, so I'm rather satisfied with my experience from this show so far. In regards to the secondary recommendation, Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo, I had also rejected it based on premise alone (the MC babysitting a grown girl didn't sound like a particularly enticing premise), but thankfully that was only a minor part of the show. I'm at 11/24 at the time of this writing, and I really like this so far (to think that I would have missed it if you didn't recommend it!) - I particularly like the character dynamics and interactions between the misfits inhabitants of Sakura-sou (and Shiina is a better character than I thought she'd be based on premise) and that there are both comedic/lighthearted and more heartfelt/emotional moments (with the tonal shift sometimes happening in quick succession). All in all, this is a really good slice-of-life show, and probably among the better ones that I've watched so far, so thank you very much for this recommendation. Also at my recipient @Gespedan : Don't worry too much about not having watched my recommended shows yet. Feel free to take your time - I wouldn't want to force you to watch at a time you wouldn't be in the mood for them and thus ruin your impression of them. I hope that you'll enjoy them when you do watch them! P.S. No idea if I'll participate next year, I'll see what I'll do based on what my schedule will be at that time - there's no way to know from now. |

I power read through about 2 volumes, stopped and thought 'holy shit this is really good' :') It's a shame there aren't more chapters out yet; I want my smut scenes LOL but I'll just have to wait and watch the anime in the mean time. I enjoyed Till Our Lips Touch a lot too. I have only read a few webcomics in the past so it's really nice to revisit them again. It was such a simple but beautiful tale about their love and I loved that. The scene where Seb walks in on Isaac naked tho, slips on the soap and lands on top of Isaac had me HOWLING LMAO too funny. I'm now reading another Korean webcomic called When a Yakuza Falls in Love, it's so ridiculous but it's like my guilty enjoyment at the moment haha Finally, I have read a Hinata/Kageyama doujin set in the omegaverse and didn't realise this was it's whole own subgenre until now!! I'm not sure if omegaverse is up there on my favourite genres list but it was actually quite a nice read. I enjoyed the art style so it's a shame that there doesn't seem to be any more BL done by this mangaka yet. I think the thing that would make this manga better for me would be to explore Naoto's rape at a more physiological level and I realise this is something I should add to my likes next time. It's cool that this event has made me think about what I enjoy in a manga more deeply. Also I loved the presentation of your message thank you! I feel bad for my gift receiver who got a plain black wall text, I'll definitely be taking inspiration from you next time ^_^ Thanks so much again~~ |
