In pixar's "cars" there are buses and taxis. Who's supposed to be riding those? It doesn't make sense.

A few episodes ago here in odd taxi, we see a pet dog. Why would there be a PET dog if all the characters are, well, animals? It doesn't make sense.

Except here, it actually does make sense, with the reveal. It was a hint as to what was going on, just like the cat that we see in the OP, which mother's basement explains really well.

Help me out with something though, what exactly is the point of the symbolism of odokawa and his taxi diving into the river, shown concurrently with all the characters and having the items that they desire also drop into water? Obviously it's a powerful moment and is telling us something, I'm just too slow to catch on it. Is it meant to show that odokawa was the one to fix all the lives of these characters? Because in a way he did save many people. Maybe it's up for interpretation, just like the ending of all this.

What a great series. I SORT OF mindlessly watched the first episode the day it aired, thought it was actually kind of lame, and stopped there. And I'm glad I did. Because after hearing how good it became, it was, well, finished airing, and now I had the chance to binge watch it all at once. It's been getting a lot of praise, but let me just get my own praise in there for a second. We need more anime like this.

I'm kinda baffled on that last ep, odokawa said he would talk to the police about that girl and all, but that last scene. What the hell happened, what's supposed to happen. Like no, and what's that about the ballpen, did I miss something?

I myself am baffled about it, like it how, fingerprints should be there and odokawa kinda knew who the girl he dropped was, but well, we still don't know if it really does end bad end route.

This was a fun series to binge through, definitely a compelling entertaining watch. The only real issues I had with it was Shirakawa coming out of nowhere to save Odokawa from Yamamoto without even attempting to explain how she knew to be there and that tbh, their relationship wasn't really believable to me. I totally got it from Odokawa's side but we really only spent one episode where we saw them interacting together. That content was super sweet but when she was like "During that time I feel in love with you" I was pressing X doubt. And I guess the Homosapiens getting a lot of focus despite being barely wrapped into everything felt off. I did like their relationship so not a big issue but the whole Shibagaki/Satoshi stuff just felt like it was there.

The twist here mostly works. I do think having the cast be animals throughout the entire show regardless of Odokawa's involvement is sort of a narrative cheat but it balances out since it's been obvious this was the case at like the halfway point, seeing all their human designs sort of felt like a reward in it's own right, and because it made the cat reveal work. The fact that it was just a cat was super obvious, the OP couldn't have made that any clearer if they tried, and it's sort of a lame reveal to a thread that's been around since episode one. BUT making Odokawa relieved that it was actually just a cat, that's both funny & clever.

A lot of the reveals leaned on the obvious side, like the replacement idol being the murderer though honestly the quick but graphic snippet of the murder still shook me. I do think Odokawa is going to be alright though, they were hinting throughout the episode that he remembered giving her a taxi ride there, and he's been shown to pretty crafty while dealing with this stuff (though the aforementioned Yamamoto moment was a clear miscalculation).

My favourite part of this finale, maybe the whole series, was definitely the car dropping sequence. Gorgeous visuals, beautiful OST, and the way it cut to the countless other individuals throughout the series witnessing it and reflecting upon stuff they've dropped in the water. An amazing climax, showcasing much of the cast and highlighting their stories or characters. The story telling has been very Durarara!!-esque, with all these characters own stories connecting to each-other but Durarara!! itself never really had a sequenced paying off that very conceit. Seeing it executed so wonderfully here was the most gratifying part of the series for me.

Though tbh, I do feel like the series peak was episode 4. I was sort of disappointed the series never did another deep dive like that, it honestly joins the pantheon of greatest stand-alone episodes (I know it's plot important of course, but you could show it without context and it'd still be great). Largely because of that episode and his role as a wild card, Tanaka was one of my favourite characters, Odokawa and Yano are the only two I might like more. Loved Tanaka's meeting with Odokawa & Dobu as well.

While it's most definitely a great show, I just dont understand why the score jumped from like a 7.80 ( I think it was that ish ) to a mind-blowing 8.80, that is an insane rise in score.

The reveal that everybody was actually humans was heavily hinted at the start of this episode, so when he woke up, it wasn't as huge of a surprise. ( and it was slightly hinted in earlier episodes, but I didn't think too much of it at that time )

Honestly it was when the question was asked, just what was in Odokawas apartment/closet, I got fucking goosebumps because it was nearing the end of the episode, and I was waiting for that one thing that would shock everybody. Turned out it was just a cat....

We got the reveal of the murderer but I wasn't shocked by it, I was just like: oh it was her.....ok.....sure.

idk maybe I'm overlooking something here. Even still this was definitely a great anime that had a decent ending.

I am just going to pretend that if Yuki ever tries to attack Odokawa after that ending scene, Shirakawa is going to pop up out of nowhere and beat the shit out of her again, like she did when Yamamoto tried to kill him. Very unsettling ending to say the least. It feels all over like Monster ending, with Johann escaping and the ending being open ended, but in a good way for sure.

But aside the ending, I really liked the way Odokawa's visual agnosia was concluded. It feels fucking great to see everyone in human form! Overall, it's been an absolutely fantastic show which exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds.

Shirakawa was able to pull Odokawa out of the car and swim with his body to the surface? I find this more unbelievable than anything else but given how great this show is I really can't complain that much.

Know what the ending scene wants to imply but I have to imagine that crazy idol is going to find it harder to kill a grown man than a tiny girl like she is. Didn't Odokawa realize what happened anyway and was going to tell the police? Why is she still loose? Mulling over if I like the conclusion or not.

End of a modern classic. What a ride this has been. Odokawa seeing everyone as animals and all their fates connecting to that harbour was so fucking good. The money was given for taking care of the orphans.
The murderer has been revealed and its the fake one all along.

This show was brilliant right from the start. Witty dialogues with intertwining plot each characters leading to on masterful ending. We rarely get shows like this these days.

WOW! This is one of the best anime I've seen in *years,* possibly in over a decade. I wish more studios had the guts to make something original and creative and compelling like this. It's the kind of quality storytelling we could have if the industry would just step away from the tired cliche's of the high school setting, the slice of life genre, and tournament fighting arcs. We need more anime noir, which is exactly what this show was, with the possible exception that there were no black & white scenes with ventilation blinds.

Also, has anyone play the game "Night in the Woods?" The reveal about how he sees people as animals is how I imagined the main character from that game also sees herself and others, except the game doesn't actually come out and say it.

I've heard a theory that the crazy idol's "lucky coincidence" in finding just the right taxi driver was actually a trap Odokawa had laid in cooperation with the police, and she had fallen right into it. Because, as you said, Odokawa actively realized what had happened way back in the hospital, and he had plenty of time to go to the police. Plus, I seriously doubt he just didn't recognize her when she got in the cab. Also, I'm pretty sure this was the only time we saw him just reclining taking a nap in his cab. I think he probably planted himself there purposely, so she could find him, and used the "nap" as an excuse.

I thought they were human when Odokawa was afraid of water being a walrus, I also trusted that the killer was not Nikaido but I was not expecting the killer kitten, let me repeat the theory that I already wrote in another thread:

My theory is as follows: the person that Odokawa was carrying in the taxi was not Yuki Takeya but the killer kitten, (that's why Odokawa did not finish the sentence) for the same reason Odokawa's testimony would place the killer kitten in the place at the time of the murder, this is based on the proof that, when Dobu reviewed the recordings, he found nothing, and since he was looking for the boss's daughter, he must have known what she looked like, if he found it was the murderous kitten , it is to think that He did not recognize her, the detail would be which taxi was taking Yuki Takeya.

Now many say they prefer the ending that we have to a second season but I would prefer another, I feel that they have left many issues open in case the possibility arises, it would be nice to continue a little more.

I also realized when she or her mother said that she should do anything to succeed. But it was one of those obvious clues.

I also would love second season seven characters as humans, but for now I want ova in which they are catching the killer. I know that this doesn't fit into what Shirakawa said about good not alys win but still... Especially since Odokawa at this point should already made his testimony. Maybe he was a bait in the last scene?

Gosh I loved this! I love a story that introduces all of these things and keeps you wondering and then they wrap it all up in a way that's satisfying! Like there are shows that will bring something to the table, but it falls flat, but not here.

I want to say the ONLY thing that made me go "huh?" is when Shirakawa saved Odokawa in episode ten (when he was being strangled). I waved it away thinking it'd be explained later and also because at least she came and kicked ass, but it wasn't really answered so I dunno what was up with that.

Considering that was my only gripe, I'd say this was a good anime for me! Very much enjoyed myself!

Kinda of expected it was not the girl there, but oh God.. it was a cat all the time *sigh*

Hm, so that little girl magically knew that the other one she killed would be at that place? Okay

Intriguing first episodes but became boring over the time.
Many characters one-dimensional with stupid reasons to commit crimes here and there or to justify their acts.

Very overrated. But people love animes where many subplots and coincidences are connected to each other, so I can see why such a high rate.

I know its been a while since anyone wrote here, but i just came off the show and i still have a few questions remaining:

1) is it really just one big coincidence that sakura knew where and when yuki and rui were about to meet, that they were even going to meet at all and that she managed to sneak in, kill her, and come out clean without anybody seeing her? The writing in this show is so fantastic that i cant really think that they would leave this whole thing for luc

2) in episode 5, we saw Hajme give Sakura the phone that she then puts in Odokawa's back seat so Hajime can track him. do they know each other that she cooperated with him? if she didnt, why would she cooperate? how did hajime know she was going aboard Odokawa's taxi?

3) Did sakura really kill Taeko in 13.13? I know a lot of people, considering that sakura is a murderer who had no issue killing somebody, think its a logical conclusion, but I just dont want to believe it unless its absolutely conclusive

See ? This is why China is banning games, so zoomers don't end up like this psycho retard in this show, shooting people cuz of gacha.

Anyway ... I guess someone watched too much Joker and Taxi Driver (1976) and thought "let's make anime out of it". I couldn't care less about the characters, you know a damn monkey, or a stupid horse don't really invoke any emotions in me, sorry but that's the thing about call it a furry or anthropomorphism (yeah a big word, look it up) shows for me, no emotions no matter how sad it is, because it's all just a bunch of fucking animals, who cares.

Now before you say, it was in the third episode or something right ? When the main dude told that Gorilla doctor that he literally looks to him like a gorilla, i guess thats where the "huge" plot twist bubble ended for me, it was kinda apparent after that.

The story was basic ? The main dude literally knew what is gonna happen even before storyboard team finished the manuscript. Was this a satire ? Or a caricature of modern society ? I guess something like that. But the human part is actually what i enjoyed the most. Until that was immediately killed with the ending, "haha look at us we so smart and witty, we don't give you an ending but this instead hehehe". Fuck you. If i was 15 years old, not paying my rent, and pseudo intellectual i would enjoy that kind of ending. But im not.

To the future can we please not hype anime shows just because washed up youtubers tell us so ? Also can we not have amateur voice actors doing voices, thanks. That rapping hedgehog was a pain to listen to and got the job probably cuz someone in the production team was his friend.

First I want to say Thank You to Gigguk aka Garnt for making the Odd Taxi video and successfully made me want to watch this.

What a Crazy Ride indeed.
As expected the Theory was right, Odokawa seeing other as Animals.

Best Girl Shirakawa let's go!!!

I called it in Episode 11 Disscussion, I knew it Sakura was the murderer.
Wtf is she talking with her Mom on the phone?
And her mom knew all of this and okay with it?
This is so messed up. (If this really potrayed the Idol Industry, this is terrifying.)

Man, you can't end with an Cliffhanger like that. Damn that is Painful yet i kinda like an Open Ending like that.
I don't think we will get another season as the main mystery twist has been revealed.

This is the reason why i watched Anime, Anime is one of the best medium of Storytelling in Modern Era.

Fantastic finale.

Honestly watching it after it aired, it was only in the beginning of this episode when Odakawa's diary is being narrated and exactly when they hit the line "I wish I could be a walrus" that everything about the premise clicked for me and I realized that he was seeing the world as animals. It made me realize that Odakawa is the only person who has ever called out people for being the animals we've been seeing them as.

The shot of the taxi falling into the water and different people looking at it with different meanings was great.

The switch to seeing people as humans was great too.

I did not expect the other girl to be the murderer and she's literally running free saying she is going to tie up the last remaining loose end. Are they just gonna leave us on a cliffhanger like that?

Overall, I really liked this show. The mystery was pretty well developed, a little slow though but the dialogue was fun. The direction is great, told in a little muddled but still straightforward enough to let you understand, it also does well to give the show a sense of mystery. Honestly, I was curious how they would wrap it all up but they did a pretty good job at it apart from the blatant cliffhanger. I think the only issue I had was that the show revolves around the murder and we get the reveal at the very end but we barely know anything about the murderer. I get that she has a motive but considering how so many of the other characters received exposition, the murderer is the person who we barely got to know. Yes, she has reason but feels like we're just supposed to accept that she did it. In fact, how did she plan it? Did she know about the meaning? I feel like there are loose ends for them to tie up there.
Still great show overall.

Odd Taxi first felt like, what's it about? A hippo kiddo trying to become famous online? An idol group? A nurse with a secret? A comedic duo? Twin cops? a taxi driver?
what does that have to do, this is so random.. oh heck no it aint, they all connect in a such a beautiful and satisfying way.
This was sooo damn good. Odd Taxi is probably the best seasonal, hands down!

Honestly this final episode left me feeling sort of conflicted on this show. The way it gets to various conclusions feels noticeably clumsier than how the show dealt with storylines throughout the show. And the final scene just kind of was tippinig point in me not liking the episode. There's a difference between an open ended conclusion and a straight up cliffhanger. It wasn't an abstract or ambiguous ending that makes you question it's meaning. It wasn't thematically ironic or anything, it was just cutting a scene when something is about to happen. Maybe I'm missing something BIG, but I don't see the value in any way of having it end that way, other than to be shocking.

Amazing anime, ending was okay (not bad, though). The cat being in his room was a light way to end all of the mysteries. Him seeing everyone as animals seemed too obvious so I didn't think that would be an important part of the ending, but it was. I don't think Oda's backstory lived up to the hype; how did his brain heal itself after coming up from the water again? And it's weird for a doctor to be working with a patient for years not knowing their medical history!

It's nice that the monkey was working hard to pay off his debts, but after he got tricked he became completely irrelevant; it would have been better to give him some kind of redemption with the idol girl or the bartender, who was a neglected part of the cast. Also wanted to see Oda connect with the love interest since she confessed love for him ages ago; how did that not get put in the ending?

Wish we could have gotten to see the crooked cop punished or being given his justice in some way; that would have been satisfying considering how conniving he was for the majority of the story. Also wish we could SEE the murderer on the phone being busted for her crimes; I know it's implied that she's about to get setup, but I want to see the justice, especially with the long discussions between Oda and the cop talking about punishing evil.

Overall this was great series with a decent ending, but I would have liked to see more punishment for the bad guys and rewards for the good guys.
9/10.

I already expected Odokawa to see the world full of animals, but his backstory was pretty sad to see. Definitely an odd ending of a masterclass written mystery with a satisfying conclusion (except Mitsuyu's murderer still on free feets) as every mystery is resolved.

F for the real Mitsuya Yuki. Her only "mistake" was crossing paths with a psychopath with almost zero depth as character. Nikaidou being the killer would have been way more fitting but well.

Honestly, it was being a pretty decent finale until those last 3 or so minutes with fake Mitsuya Yuki. I mean, was it really necessary to have such ambiguous last scene? Just let my man Odokawa have a peaceful life for fuck's sake.

Anyways, still a pretty good show overall. There was a certain amount of plot conveniences as well as plot-holes here and there but the story and dialogues were so engaging one could "ignore" those flaws to some extent.

8/10 - Easily, one of the best shows this year and personally, the best original anime in 2021 so far.

This show is amazing. Great suspense, complex backstories and cool characters. There is just a whole lot of stuff going at the same time as we get closer to the end, and what's more impressive is that the way they did it, didn't make the audiences feel the pacing is being rushed or forced. All the characters and little elements presented are with purpose, fairly none of them are being wasted, and the story is super-tightly-written and organized.

This final episode did the stuffs a final episode might deliver - all the mysteries, suspense, backstories, people getting what they deserved no matter revenge or redemption. The car flying under the moonlight, various cutscenes of things dropping into water, people staring at the car, is definitely one of the most memorable scenes in this final episode.

It seems like some parts of the story are still mysterious : the way Shiwakara saving Odokawa (both in the construction site, and in the water), Odokawa recovered his ability of visual recognition after the accident, the death of real Mitsuyu by the fake Mitsuyu, the extra bullets from Tanaka's gun. However, it is already a great job for them to put up a whole and complete story, with so many characters, ideas developed with depth, even tying up everything together again, in just 13 episodes.

Based on the title, visual presentation (all the characters being drawn like animals) and the relaxing music, one might thought of this as a laid-back slice of life kind of show, but it's not quite that. In short, this show has just too much to offer.
