Finally, a really good episode that I enjoyed consistently from start to finish since like Episode 2 after 6 episodes of okay-decent stuff at best. Not the most emotionally engaging episode I've seen by any means, but still a really good watch nonetheless from start to finish for once, and it was nice seeing Hiling's character shine in this episode overall, in the flashbacks and in current time in a panicked state given the state of her kids currently. Dorshe was really good too and the animation popped off here. This show needed an episode like this since I was not too far from losing interest in it.

This anime is so good. I have such a hard time reading what Bosse's ultimate end game is.

YOLO!

Honestly he really just seems to wing it just hoping everything will fall in place (probably hoping for Bojji), not trying to hurt anyone. Even Miranjo came off as an interesting individual today with her being so devoted to Bosse, that dance scene just makes it really obvious that she loves him.

Just an amazing episode, we see once again just how deeply loving Hilling is, far from a heartless queen but a woman willing to do anything for her beloved sons.
Dorsche shows his might, truly being the shield of the queen.
Daida is trapped in a senseless world, robbed of his senses, alone. In this world he slowly starts to understand just how difficult Bojji's life is and how strong Bojji's heart is.

It seems there really might be no "villian" in this anime, Miranjo still feels the most villianous but from how Bosse talks, her fate up till she met Bosse might have been truly tragic, so much so Bosse was decided to thread the needle of everyone's life and try to save Miranjo and everyone else he loves.

Bosse's diamond display of strength was some Baki shit.

Why did Hiling attempt to climb the wall in the first place? 😂 The flashback was so sweet.

And Daida finally about to emphatize with Boji after experiencing helplessness. Learning about despair firsthand should be a character-building lesson.

Another emotional rollercoaster of an episode.

The episode switched from this to that a lot of times. But, holy shit, the amount of emotions I felt while watching this episode was insane. From Queen Hiling to Daida and then Dorshe. Every single one of them is confronted with something. I'm always open for more Hiling flashbacks because it's just beautiful how she turned from such a ''toxic'' queen to a loving and caring mother. Dorshe's development was great though. He kept his promise to the King and even near death, he managed to protect the queen. Daida's suffering like crazy on the other hand. No way out, trapped in an endless void, waiting for someone to rescue him. Hearing his mother's voice might have relieved him a bit from all those anxiety attacks but after it got quiet, he sadly began to wonder if this is how Boji's world feels like. King Bosse is such a mysterious character.. we don't know his real motives yet, what's his planning with doing all this and what more. The one thing I can say with confidence is, he's on the ''good'' side.
Great episode with a lot of sakuga. Dorshe's fight is going to be underrated in this serie.

Great episode! Dorshe is a great bodyguard and I'm happy he protected Queen Hilling and he survived also. The queen also wants Daida back and I'm really wondering why Bosse is doing what he is right now...
I feel sorry for Daida being trapped in there.

Looking forward to the next episode!

Im very curious about Hilling monastic life, which was a surprise to know about it. She as always, awesome in this episode

Dorshe is a incredible knight. And stronger than Apeas.

If that doll is based on Miranjo real appearance, she is cute. And makes me wonder why she didnt became queen. At the time Bosse met Bojji's mother she still had her body, I suppose. And there's that tension in the air.

Im not sure if Bosse want to live or die. "Banishing" many people to join Bojji camp.

Man the character work in this series is top tier....I am such a huge fan of Hilling and Dorshe now after this one

And look at Daida finally understanding what it feels like to live how Bojji was living in the kingdom...Man I hope this kid can get freed one day

However, this episode kinda makes me feel like the king isn't a piece of shit, so I'm curious to see what his end game is with this whole plot Miranjo has going

Erm...King Bosse's spirit in Daida's body kinda gives me the hibbie jibbies, but it's unmistakably Bosse because of his superhuman strength stolen from Bojji.

Queen Hiling may be down with the nightmares, but man, Dorshe IS ONE HELL OF A GUY. Being demoted from being the King of the Spears to Hiling's personal bodyguard from King Bosse personally, and with the added pressure of Hiling to take care of young Bojji, Borshe took it upon himself to learn the ropes because King Bosse and his attendant just couldn't give two effs about his own weak-hearted wife.

But still though, Dorshe IS the Queen's Shield, and coupled with the monster fighting scene with Wit Studio's amaxing animation flex, he held onto his position as the right man for the task against monsters manipulated by Miranjo. Dorshe is Baki Unleashed, and it feels satisfying to see him go full ham.

The emotions wrought between Bosse and Miranjo, it's so strong that I can't help but feel like these two can take over the kingdom at any moment, their world is within the grasp of their hands being sucked into the Underworld.

This episode really exposes more of Hiling, that she's not the same heartless woman we know early on in ths show, and that she really loves the children she bore a lot, towards both Daida and Bojji. It's just sad that Bosse, because of Miranjo, only goes with the flow, and gives clemency to both Dorshe and Hiling to get out before death rings at their door.

Daida is starting to put himself in Bojji's shoes, that's character development.

Every episode only keeps getting better, and wrangle those emtions greatly.
Episode director Arifumi Imai ALWAYS never misses.

So, let's go for the predictions :

- Bosse made a vow to Miranjo that, in exchange for the access to the Demon's powers, he would get rid of Hilling and make her Queen someday.

- In order to avoid anything Miranjo could attempt in order to get rid of Hilling, he posted Dorshe as her Bodyguard : The most powerful of his minions.

- A few years later, Bosse dies, Miranjo tries to ressurect him so he can fulfil his vow and make her Queen. Afraid of what Miranjo would do if he just confronted her, he played along with her plan.

- When Dorshe beat the 3 Dogs of Hell (forgot their name), Bosse knew Miranjo would try to do something in the instant, so he asked her to Dance, knowing that possessing that Doll would dry her out of her magic.

- Miranjo then goes into the Gate of the Underworld and my guess is that Domas will arrive and try to close it so that she's stuck there for a while.

- Finally, in case Miranjo comes back and Domas fails, he sent Hilling away.

---------

That's my predictions, and the best for last :

- I think he's keeping Daida's body because he wants to see how far Bojji went with his training (probably in EP 11 or 12 will they fight), and will then release Daida's body. He doesn't want to stay alive like this, possessing Daida.. he's just trying to protect his sons & Kingdom.

So Bosse is simply "going with the flow" and hence why he seems so calm and without worry. I suppose something big (no one else but Bosse and Miranjo know about) is going to happen in the future.

What a great use of a flashback, and a seamless transition back to the present. Beautiful!

King Bosse in Daida's body is not exactly King Bosse... or is he?? If he truly IS King Bosse, they better have a damn good explanation as to why he wants to kill his own wife. We are still scratching the surface to the story, but I hope the intentions of "King Bosse", if he really is King Bosse, are at least distantly reasonable.

Ngl I'm making myself suffer by watching this weekly. I'm seriously considering waiting until it finishes airing and then binging the rest. But then each week the next episode is ready to be watched and I just CLICK on it.... sigh

Another very good episode, I think my favorite so far. Hilling and Daida, very confident at the beginning of the series, finally show a lot of weaknesses. Nice effort to show Daida's distress too, and the fight scene against the monsters was perfectly directed and animated, a true pleasure

The last couple of episodes have been quite decent. This one is the best so far, purely due to how exceptionally well directed animation-wise it was. It really looked lively especially during the fight sequences. That being said, the story is still just okayish at best for me. At least when the show isn’t so focused on being sappy with emotional manipulation and silly with plot contrivances, I’m more interested. Hopefully it continues to improve; I wasn’t really digging the source material at all from the manga, so it helps to see the anime elevate things to take advantage of the medium it’s in.

An emotionally charged episode for Hiling. We got to see a whole spectrum of emotions from seething anger to joy and great anxiety. The bit at the end when was she screaming for Daida's spiritual release was particularly poignant. Her shield, Dorshe is bad ass and the fight with the dogs from hell from was pretty epic.

What puzzles me though is the motives of Bosse whose hearts seem to lie in multiple directions. Who does he ultimately side with Miranjo or Hiling? He seems to be playing them against each other and is not making a firm commitment. What does he hope to achieve? I think the clearest thing I can guess is he wants Bojji to be made king but beyond that his mind is like a black box.

I'd say it's a magical automaton that looks like her old self.
That said, unless I misread a past foreshadowing, her real body should be still preserved in that icy room connected to the underworld so maybe we'll see what her real body (that could be very well be a corpse) really looks like sooner or later.

I was thinking at first that it could have been Bojji's mom in the icy statue room but i think, that can be easily discarded now and didn't really make sense as well so have to bide our time on the reveals.

Really great episode. Hiling really portrays a mother's unconditional love, going so far for both her sons regardless of biological affiliation. I was so invested I thought Daida was going to be reunited with her this ep and was heartbroken when she was knocked out and he practically falls into despair again.

I thought he did when he said she was the most pure and the most beautiful. Whether he's playing along to keep her happy and from destroying everything (he is doing things behind her back) or if he is genuinely in love with her I don't know. But I think at the very least Miranjo loves him.

This episode was actually really good, other than the Miranjo monologue in the middle which felt out of place (Could have used some conversation instead?).

It built up the character of the queen with all the growth through the eyes of Dorshe, and allowed it to deliver the strong and noisy climax, the flashback was actually useful to solve different questions (Why is this guy not obeying the King? Well, it was kind of his mission to not do so) and the fight was ridiculous. It also glued Bosse's motivation, which was something needed to clear the two different paths that could unravel his character (I like the phrase "I'm going with the flow", they are building up some interesting conflict there).

A lot of things done here, and the pacing was extremely good. I can see that they poured some extreme effort to make this one of the best episodes of the series because the narrative exploits the essence of the anime

Yo, insanely great episode! I love Hiling so much, best mom. It's awesome how they can just make us instantly like a character, like what they did with Dorshe this episode. Plus, his weapon of choice is so sick and unique, I mean, dual wielding spikey shields!? Like bro, that's sick.

I honestly wonder if Bosse knew he was gonna get revived, or he probably knew, but he doesn't really want to deep inside, he's just going with the flow right now, kind of keeping Miranjo in check.

Yuki Kaji back at it again with the insane screaming, that Daida breakdown scene was so good, from the visuals to the voice acting. It's really nice to see too, Daida feeling what it's like to be in Bojji's world. I hope Hiling and Dorshe goes to Bojji or something. Really looking forward to the next episode.

It was really beautiful. The Queen is probably a favorite character of mine at this point. She's brash, but caring-- She just lets her anger get ahead of her own brains! Daida breaking down was hard to see too. He's still just a kid, after all.
There was a shot during the fight where the guard mister was thrown against the wall, but it became a POV shot for a moment. Totally seamless. The episodes all have different flavors, but they effectively bring out the best of whatever is happening.

I think when Bosse said he's going with the flow that kinda added everything together for his character:

First Bosse and Miranjo meet devil, because at this point in his life, Bosse cared about being the strongest more than his future family. Then, after finally gaining that strength at the cost of Bojji's strength, he regrets, and vows to protect Bojji with everything, thus ending his adventures and founding their kingdom. Next, Bosse dies and Miranjo reincarnates him using Daida as a vessel, this scene in particular is important because what Bosse says when he awakens, "so, ive sacrificed another son". "Another" is obviously referencing the power stolen from Bojji, but the overall word choice leaves me to believe he has no desire to reincarnate, but some kind of former contract with Miranjo has left his hands bound. Whether this is a contract like the one he made with the demon or if he actually has feelings for Miranjo is still up in the air. but something is preventing Bosse from taking direct action against Miranjo, which is why he's orchestrating things in the background, like telling Domas to destroy the gate to the underworld, and then making Miranjo use up her energy by dancing with him.

Also, Bosse might not know how to reverse the potion that reincarnated him inside of Daida, so he might actually need Miranjo in order to pull that off.

one of the virtues of having such simple, cartoony designs is it's waaaaay easier to animate fluidly on a budget. a lot of low budget anime have these intricately designed characters but then they try to move, and it's just a mess. With more simple designs, what you sacrifice in realism you make up for in greater expressiveness in the animation.

all this to say, hot damn the animation on this show is great. It's not great in the "sakuga" sense, but more like classic animation, like early Disney shorts. There's some real flexing going on here from the animators.

also, the writing is so economical, and yet so full of hidden meaning. There's always an implication that there's more layers, more going on than we know, and every episode we're getting more and more peeled back.

I don't know that I have the critical vocabulary to really explain why this show is a masterclass, but it is.
