He did when he thought that the stand couldn't melt an incorporeal object like another stand. Jotaro is cunning, but he's not perfect. He may make mistakes.
Only stands can damage other stands. Given how many stands he thought, he should just expect any type of attack to be dangerous. I just can't buy this mistake for the situation. We're talking about the guy who in his next fight figures out that a stand attacks based on temperature with very little information here.

That doesn't automatically mean that everything a stand does directly affects another stand. Empress can't meld on a stand's skin, for example. Mariah's stand doesn't make stands magnets. Killer Queen

The fact that Jotaro is very smart and cautious doesn't mean he cannot ever fail. He didn't understand that Mannish Boy was a stand user in part 3 and thought that Kakyoin was going insane, for example. And it doesn't mean he can't react by instinct without thinking. Don't forget that he clearly states that he tried to deflect those spears with SP to defend himself from a sudden attack. He didn't expect that and reacted out of pure reflexes, without thinking.
That's very different from deducing

That's because those stands require physical properties to have their effect go about. Empress requires a physical host, Mariah required physical contact inorder to trigger the effect, unlikely to have had been done through a stand, and Killer Queen
The stands given as example are not really solid, since their effects would be dispelled if the stand dissapeared. Their effects are gimmicky and are not direct attacks towards a stand.

And yes, Jotaro can fail and react on instinct. But Jotaro explicitly said that he made the choice to catch the bullet. It wasn't really an instinctive reaction. I can't fault Hotaro on not working with info he hasn't been given. But he had plenty of time to think from the drain to the house to realize contact with the stand's attack will cause trouble.

Why does it look like Jotaro has become so weak.
He defeated Dio in the previous season, hard to believe a rat caused him so much trouble considering he possesses one of the most powerful stand.

Because JoJo is a series that rarely has "power levels",as in no matter how strong someone seems to be,he can still get countered by a random dude if he knows how to use his power well enough
Jotaro gets pretty much countered by most ranged stands and this one was especially a problem for him as he cant grab/punch away the projectiles like he usually does.
It was just a bad matchup for him

Jotaro was outmatched by the Rat Stand because of several reasons: the Stand out ranged him, he couldn't see it(but it could see him), it was able to use Jotaro's own time stop to its advantage, and its power made getting closer next to impossible.

This is how JoJo is: Xanatos Speed Chess matches where you manipulate your opponent to get into a situation where you can win.

The chemistry between jotaro and josuke was very fun to watch!

Although Rat>Jotaro>Dio

Jotaro is so fking nerfed! So Joseph got nerfed in SC, and Jotaro gets nerfed in DiU. Honestly kind of annoying. I've been waiting for an episode of jotaro kicking ass, but we really haven't gotten one yet huh.

@yoodihoshi where are you watching uncensored?!

Fun fact this episode is the closest thing to a training arc JoJo will ever have from here on out as you can't really train Stands like you can with the Ripple/Hamon/Sendo.

What a weird episode
Even rats are OP
The thing I want to ask, why did Otoishi stab those two rats
Did he think those rats will obey him instead of destroying humanity?

He was probably messing with the Arrow. He probably went "Hey, what would happen if I shoot these rats with the Arrow?" and then shot them.

A rat with a stand. Won't be surprised if there will be more animal stand users in the future. Maybe objects too who knows.

Half of Jotaro's body was literally melting and he was like "We can finally relax a little". Dude.

Ah I can't believe I didn't think outside the narrative...

Jotaro knows he can always get revived, he also has solid proof that it will work. Like other people commented, why didn't Jotaro move closer and closer and once within accurate range (certainly compared to Josuke) use either a ball bearing left over of a bullet round and shoot the 'bug eatin' rat?

He won't fail, his stand is known for it's accuracy, even then, if desperate enough he could use the world to rush in and punch the stand or the rat.

Just when you thought rats were bad, you're lucky there aren't rats running around with stands that can turn people into mush and be eaten alive o_o

Only thing I can think of is that he was testing how well Josuke could deal under pressure.

Other than that, it's probably just because Josuke is the MC. Jotaro is in a similar situation that Joseph was in SC. They're not the MC so they gotta be sidelined to give, in this case, Josuke the spotlight. Although in SC it made more sense for Joseph since Hamon was useless against stands, his stand wasn't meant for combat and he was getting old. The problem with Jotaro is that he's OP after he learned The World so things like what happened in this episode are bound to happen or else the fights would be over instantly.

Jotaro smoothly investigating the rat's whereabouts was pretty interesting and his use of The World was just so satisfying. How he manages to keep his cool even after getting most of his body melted off was a feat in itself.

The Rat Jelly was gross af and Keicho actually messed with rats. Good thing they didn't fuck or anything to make evil baby rat stand users...

Josuke's shoes got wet but at least he killed both of them in the end.

Great episode! Nice to see this on BD. Seeing those old couple being turned into a lump of flesh inside of a refrigerator is creepy as hell!!

I wonder why Jotaro didn't use Za Warudo to kill the 2nd rat back at the house. Guess he was testing Josuke to see if he can adapt and all

Nice to see Jotaro getting used to Za Warudo!!! Kinda makes me miss Dio.

Can't wait for the next episode!!

"Right. So carry two rounds."

Lol Jotaro.

Jotaro gets pretty confident approaching the rat. I guess that's what you get knowing that you have Josuke with his healing stand got your back. Also pretty cool that he says: "Don't look at me, Josuke!" Shows that to him, it doesn't matter if he gets hurt. And that hunting the rat is their priority.

as a rat lover, this was not a fun episode to watch

(also on an unrelated note/rant:)

you know, this JoJo part is really making me realize just how much i judge characters based on their character design. like, this part has a really high rating and i can see why so far but god i just can't seem to enjoy it that much because there's not really any characters i like aside from Jotaro

but the characters don't even have bad personalities, it's just that i hate their character designs. the male delinquent style has never grown on me in any past manga. i'm imaging Josuke's personality in my favorite JoJo designs and i think he would have really become one of my favorites if that was the case. why did you have to have that hairstyle Josuke, why..

i'm also just not a fan of the color scheme and overall setting in this part, only in the anime though. i can't quite explain it but the colors don't look good together at all and the setting is pretty plain. the manga seems to be pretty good in the art department from what i've seen though

This episode was ok. Sure, it felt like a filler, but showed us some cool features. First of all, good hunting lesson based on rat hunting example. xD Secondly, it showed how bonds between Josuke and Jotaro are getting stronger. Thirdly, we could see Josuke's journey on getting more confidence of himself and his own actions.

I liked how the art corresponded with the atmosphere of this episode. Like growing tension during their hunt, bloody scenes, deadly rat and plot-twist with having another rat as Stand user, previously remaining unknown.

I hope Josuke fixed Jotaro in a jiffy after he killed rat number 2. He was in very bad shape. I know Josuke was proud of himself etc., but half of Jotaro's body was literally melting. xD

Jotaro. Hunting?
Jotaro's new clothes.
A rat?
WTF! A block of rats?
DAMN! Dat rat is big as fuck.
They locked eyes. Pokemon battle.
Oh shit! They're still alive inside the fridge.
Josuke hit it.
Its dead.
There's another one?
Jotaro's hand.
Bug-Eaten.
You could have walked around the water.
Backtracking.
The narrator.
Josuke's hand.
Josuke got hit in the neck.
Suta Purachina: Za Warudo!
Jotaro got hit.
Josuke got it.

Going to assume Josuke healed that couple. Felt so weird seeing Jotaro use Za Warudo. Makes me miss DIO. He made it have impact. I wonder how DIO would have handled the rat.

I like the intro song, but I still feel some visuals could have been colorful to be consistent with the previous OPs. Individual shots in the OP are still colorful, but more monotonous colors are favored for which is... questionable.
On the other hand this was a good episode highlighting Jotaro and Josuke. Pretty fun to watch. Ratt was a cool stand, and I can’t wait for the next episode which has Rohan back in the spotlight!

This episode felt much more like an act than the other episodes. I don't know how to describe it but the conversations seemed so fake. Probably because there wasn't really any action and therefore little to talk about except for the short moment "rivalry" between the two jojos, which itself came across as forced
