As usual, Guideau uses her fists and violence to solve problems.

We also got a lot of scenes featuring Phanora this episode, who seems very knowledgable about history, lore, and supernatural content. Wonder if she'll play a more important role later on. She almost seems like the complete opposite of Guideau, being calm and collected.

@Stark700 Well, the similarity between them is that they are both short and beautiful

Ah, the two people from the other key visual have finally made their appearance.

Phanora, the preeminent necromancy expert within The Order of Magical Resonance, alongside her aide Johan, received a commission to investigate an "Undead's Uncontrol Case" introduced by Ashaf. As they attentively listened to the police officer recount the details of the case, Phanora became suspicious that the uncontrolled undead were unauthorized resurrections, akin to "strays." To gauge the extent of these "strays," they ventured to a dilapidated church and enticed the undead, which had lost their mental faculties.

I've got this theory that Phanora and Johan are like a tag team of necromancer and undead, but who's who is still up in the air. Loved that intro though. And you know, it wouldn't be too surprising if Johan was actually undead from the get-go, just done really well. Funny enough, even with eyes everywhere, that shady necromancer completely missed that Phanora's part of the necromancer order.

I won't be shocked if Johan turns out to be undead, and all that throat-slitting did diddly-squat to him.

Yey more people.

A very standard episode, exactly as you would expect. New threat appears, so we need to call the new experts to handle this new threat, so the new duo is introduced, just enough world building brought with them, just enough to get interested in those two, very by the book.

Also, why is it always the "straight" guy, and the quirky character, lol.

Oh, this couple is interesting too. Hope they're not just side-dish. I want to see them join the main couple soon.
Somehow the dilemma in this episode reminds me of euthanasia dilemma, even though they're opposite.

I am biased because in the manga I love Phanora and Johan already and am ecstatic to see them animated, especially our seemingly icy detached queen.
Happy with how their introduction has been handled!
Great, if once again perhaps a bit exposition heavy, episode!

Good episode. Good to see a shift in perspective.

Good to see some fresh ideas about necromancy.

Poor guy, didn't want his loved one become an undead and to see her as an undead at the end ;-;

Say what you will, the world building, setting and storytelling (and main cast) are more than solid enough to get you hooked within a single episode (even with some characters being annoying or a little too one-dimensional and slightly flawed reasoning here and there). It's quite good at conveying stories or a bigger picture with what little information fits in ~20 minutes ... sure, not quite up there with gems like Kino's Journey or Boogiepop Phantom in that regard, but still good.

I like it.

What an episode; it was pretty good.

We have a new duo in the mix with Phanora and Johan, and so far, I'm liking them. I think they're pretty cool with their focus on necromancy.

Probably my favourite episode so far and it didn't even focus on the main duo! The ethics behind legalised and consensual necromancy is fascinating to me.

Wow what an episode. Feels weird to say in an episode largely absent of Achaf and Guideau, but this was probably the best one yet and made the world even bigger. It’s not just witches we have to deal with in this world, but a whole slew of issues including necromancers misusing their abilities.

The concept of a stray is so messed up man. Being resurrected without any say and not even knowing why you’re dead. Very ethically and morally grey situation. I understand why all the other provinces outlawed necromancy. Death is the natural end of things, circumventing it with magic might seem appealing, but there’s always drawbacks.

Phanora who’s voiced by hayamin(my wife) is such a cool character. I love how she and Johan are a contrast to Guideau and Achaf both in designs and personalities. While she may come off as cold person, she clearly cares about Johan a lot and looked pretty distraught when the necromancer slit his throat. I don’t think that was a legit danger situation for them though. She and Johan probably set up getting captured similar to how Achaf and Guideau played it in episode 1.

Necromancy and the undead, they go hand in hand, and the Order of Magical Resonance are rest assured to help. Neither Ashaf nor Guideau, but the necromantic specialists of Johan and Phanora Kristoffel, which police detective Jeff Enkel receives the help from. But rules are there so as to protect everyone, even if they're undead who've turned into strays. Following Ashaf's instruction to route out the undead, it becomes creepy too soon.

Apparently, Jeff thinks the same way when his fiancée passed away, not wanting her to become undead herself. With all of the undead, Johan handles them while Phanora supervises his stint to inspect the potential necromancers in this case, along with the various undead in the 3 different states: Auto (autonomy), Semi-auto (mind control), and Manual (domination), which the lantern should only attract the Auto undead. As for the Manual, it looks as if that resurrection was done for a different purpose, like human experimentations. It's only clear that they're being watched, and once they reached a mansion, they're greeted by Manual undead, one of which was his fiancée.

With Johan out of commission, both Phanora and Jeff are forced to enter the necromancer's mansion. What fear awaits them?

So necromancy is legal but it seems their controls aren't very good. There's meant to be consent, disclosure of risks and regular maintenance or the raised undead goes crazy. Did they think this through? What if the necromancer gets old, dies or retires? Who takes over maintenance then or does the undead just die for good? Lots of questions yet to be answered.

I'm quite fond of the 2 new folks, Phanora is most likely a necromancer too and her assistant. Well. He's a lot more interesting as a character. Need the next episode, watching weekly is kind of torture.

This new duo is an interesting pair but it sucks that Guideau will have to wait longer to find a witch to undo his curse. At least Guideau punched that undead guy in the face before leaving the rest to Phanora and her servant Johan.

The theory that Johan may actually be undead is fascinating since that would mean that this mysterious necromancer may not have as much leverage as he thinks he does, I'm curious to see how this unfolds.

I liked the alternative couple of main characters for a change. I also find the two-episode-episodic format easier to watch for airing anime, since I tend to get confused with seasonals watching them only once a week.

I wonder how this new couple of main characters will relate with Gideau and Ashaf in the long term and within the central plo tline.

Dang this got pretty interesting. It's cool how there's legal necromancy, and that the subject would have to sign papers beforehand; just in case things go a little crazy when becoming undead. This world is getting bigger and I am liking our newly introduced duo as well.

I can't describe what happened in this episode.

It went by so fast and unexpected events just happened. I don't know anymore, it's so sadistic. Bringing the dead back to life is an act of insanity.

Hopefully the next episode will answer my confusion.

Oh! We got a new duo. I like them both, Phanora and her right-hand man, Johan. The scene where the undead suddenly appeared surprised me a bit. I didn't expect Johan to finish them off with just a knife..

At first I thought that Phanora might be an undead too because Jeff said the atmosphere around Phanora was cold...? And compared to Johan, I think Johan looks more human than Phanora. Although it's possible that she's a necromancer who resurrected Johan as a perfect undead. But yeah, who knows. Whatever it is, I hope Johan doesn't die, he's very likable. I still want to see this duo for the next couple of episodes!

While I'm glad that these new characters are not introduced and done in a single, rushed episode (for the most part, that side character is already dead), the fact that they are not the main characters of this series kind of pisses me off. I don't see how these new characters progress the story any further, only that they broad what their organization can do.

Plus, I don't undertand why all the necromancers always speak so slowly.

We got some world building and a new duo which I don't mind for a change, Phanora being voiced by Saori Hayami is also a big plus. It's obvious that the necromancer misuses the undead but I wonder for what reason. He seems to know Phanora so probably connected to that.

So far probably the best episode, although a bit predictable at times.

@IzanaSolos

That's a nice theory, I think similarly too..

Though, in my opinion they're probably both undead, not just Johan.

Something on the lines of: Phanora was so fascinated with necromancy that she wanted to do it on herself as well, but since you cannot practically do it on your own, she turned Johan into an undead, and then set an objective into him, instructing him how to turn her into an undead.
So basically now they're both undead, and she does maintenance on him, while he does maintenance on her.

That would also explain her reaction when the other necromancer got Johan throat slit.
If Johan "dies", she will lose the only person that can perform maintenance on her. Which is quite the issue.
