HALF OF THEM LITERALLY DIED!
Damn, Even Yuno didn't stand a chance against Zenon... Wow he is so OP!

If it wasn't for the Vangace's World's Tree Magic, Everyone was supposed to be dead.

Pretty hyped for the next episode!

Well, Yuno had a tough opponent this episode but I never doubted him.

But I have to say...this episode escalated fast. From a regular battle to despair and hopes shattered. Crazy. I also really enjoyed watching Zenon's role and establishing him in this Spade Kingdom arc.

Devastating episode! RIP Hamon, Shiren and other Golden Dawn members. T_T

Yuno was easily defeated by Zenon, which was quite expected. Their magics are incompatible to begin with, only few types of magic can damage devil magic. Despite of that, Yuno single-handedly defeated a Zero Stage Dark Disciple and even inflict damage to Zenon, which forced Zenon to use his devil magic! Yuno is weak now against Zenon, but he'll surely get stronger and revenge his fallen comrades as well as his Spade Kingdom family and take back Captain William. I'm looking forward to that!!! HYPE!!!

Bell's current form looks immature, I guess she still have some power to unleash. The first time they met, Belle looks like an infant with short hair. lo

They really adapted nearly 4 whole chapters huh...the next 10 episodes, including this one, will be fucking great😭👋🏾

In the face of overwhelming power...sentiment and vengefulness are meaningless. Everything is.
-iykyk

Knowing that Zenon's devil magic is spatial, there would be three possible people to take on him...Finral, Finral's brother & the fat guy from the tournament arc back then who used to be in the same squad as wizard king Julius & Yami too lol

Yuno's scream really gets me every time...

Captain Vangeance has been taken but what a legend, he still cast a vast spell to save half of his squad, respect for the man.

So what are they gonna do now, things aren't looking good at all for Golden Dawn. They've been hit hard.

This is heartbreaking episode, Black Clover continue to evolve emotionally.

I notice that Yuno section is usually a drama one, in contrast to Black Bull section which is half comedy half adventure. Yuno deserves to laugh more.

I'm wondering if this will be the end of Golden Dawn and Yuno will join Black Bull, but Yuno might take on captain role of Golden Dawn and revive the squad to its glory day by himself.

Pacing was fast like CRAZY. They covered 4 chapter in this episode. But don't worry, they didn't skip anything. The only part they cut is a small flashback in the manga which we are already seen in the previous episodes.

They must be really confident about themselves. With this pacing, they'll catch up with the manga so soon. And then, either we'll have to wait or we'll watch a filler arc again. Hopefully the first imo.

As for your question, I'd say in 10 episodes or even less. Because the episode names for next five episodes are revealed and seems like they'll go with that crazy pacing for the next couple of episodes too.

this episode adapted 3 2/3 chapters...if they don't go on a break around episode 170ish it should be less than 10eps away...but with this pace the anime would surpass the manga in a few months...

It's heartening to see the Golden Dawn change for Yuno, inviting him along regardless of status...but seeing them thrashed by the Dark Triad, the anger is justified. Pitting himself against Gaderois, and shutting him down just as quick.

The others against Foyal, even with the reincarnated elf powers, aren't enough to take him down, and Yuno's nick-of-time helps aid them in defeating Foyal.

The important crux: Captain William Vangeance vs. Zenon, even with Klaus and Letoile sacrificed, and at 55% power of the Devil, it's not enough to cover the wide demise of the Golden Dawn at half the numbers. Getting stronger is the name of the game, and Yuno has to go ham now.

The fastest pacing of Black Clover so far at 4 chapters, yet leaving nothing behind from the manga. That says a lot at how great this show has become overtime.

Damn, half of the Golden Dawn squad is dead. At least Vangeance was able to save some of them, he got captured by the guy from Spade Kingdom in the process. This fight made the Knights understand the power difference between them and the Dark Triad.

What an episode. Half of the squad straight up dead. And even 2 or 3 important characters, granted I didn't care about those 2 that much but I also didn't want them to be gone. Zenon is actually op. Wizard king and asta would be the only opponents that could beat him, because asta is the main character, but Julius is still in his kid form. Please tell me Vangeance isn't dead!!

I remember people were upset that didn’t let Klaus die this chapter lol. I think this was like chap 230ish or so, most shonen major deaths happen much later in the story so idk why people were tripping lol.

Good adaptation, I think it would’ve been better to end it on Yuno in a near death state though just to have that cliffhanger.

Yeah I don't like characters dying just for the sake of dying if there's no purpose or atleast have an effect to main protagonists. The golden dawn characters that have died might be fodders or third rate characters but it affect Yuno so much that you can feel it.

Vangeance is a total beast when it comes to his world tree magic, but versus devils him and Yuno were totally outclassed this eps. At least Yuno was able to save half the squad, without his intervention I suspect they would of been wiped out!

On a side note I liked some of the still shots of Yuno which cropped up, gave a more mature feel to his character like he is more grown and rugged. Hard to explain, more something I felt.

I enjoyed it despite not having the best animation (understandably they are probably saving the good stuff for the true hype battles of the arc, giving this was more a one-sided massacre), but the voice acting (Zenon trash talking Yuno and Yuno's scream of impotence at the end especially) and OST were pretty good, things that ended saving the episode.

RIP Hamon, you were my favorite from the supporting Golden Dawn members T_T

They are not slowing the pacing at all, so they may cover this arc in eight or nine episodes. This worries me a bit, since if they aren't careful enough, they may catch up with the manga in a few months, and that will likely mean we gonna get more filler.

wow they covered 4 chapters, i thought for sure that Yuno being "dead" would be the cliffhanger ending

so i'm guessing based on the future episode titles that
episode 162 will cover the remainder of 239 till 242
episode 163 will be chapters 243 - 246
episode 164 will be 247 - 250 and
episode 165 will be 251 - 254

the manga assuming there is no breaks would be at 284 by that time and leave us 30 chapters ahead of the anime.
how are they going to avoid catching up.

Arguably the best episode of the entire show. Not for the action scenes (we've seen a few more impressive) but because -at last- we saw some real impact, some true deaths. However, since this is Black Clover and noone ever really dies (as far as I recall only the Elves, that bastard Word Magic demon and Zora's father have died without being resurrected; I mean the second time the Elves died) I cannot rule out some time magic BS by Julius or whomever to undo these deaths - and thus in the process also undo the beauty and impact of this episode...

I am cautiously optimistic that this might not happen because most of the characters who died where minor, with barely any screen time. Perhaps this massacre was intended as a plot device to motivate the surviving half of Golden Dawn and all the other squads and serve as a warning that the northern demons are not to be underestimated. It also appears that Yuno regretted passing on the offer to train in the Heart Kingdom. If he had trained in the Heart Kingdom (in particular with the Wind Spirit Guardian) he would have amplified his magic with these word spells the other guys learnt, making use of natural mana beside his own.

That's a magic technique that there was no way in hell he could have devised on his own, no matter how long he trained. Unfortunately his arrogance prevailed, incorrectly believing that there was nothing the Heart Kingdom Spirit Guardians could have taught him that he would not develop on his own. If he amplified his spirit magic with natural mana to about twice its current strength he might well become strong enough to defeat Zenon. Since this is Yuno I expect he could amplify his magic at least three times. This was a missed opportunity and Asta is arguably now stronger than him.. Surely this shock will serve as a humility lesson for Yuno?
