THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Welp, politicans are not safe in this show.

It seems the detective force in this anime also deals with bank robberies. For the character cast, Akane is easily becoming the most appealing one imo. Dunno how I feel about their new rookie member, Seiji. He has a lot to learn.

Their unit seems to be composed of a variety of characters with specialitzes so I hope they focus more on each of them individually.

A Samurai Vampire and a Ninja, interesting haha.
The special 7 seems to be diversified that's cool.
Otherwise I hope it will be more entertaining in the next episode, it bored me a bit.

Really getting strong bungo stray dogs vibes from this. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the intention.

I thought Ninja is a trap, guess i was wrong. But you can never know with Japan.

Sniper is so buff, I love him.
Rookie is so virgin, I love him, and love his relationship with Charisma.
The villain's big boss (Nine?) and his sub are so hot, I love them.

Ichinose's cool but his nickname is cringy, rookie is learning his way. It would be awesome if other characters in special 7 gets more screen time in upcoming episode especially ninja.

Apart from Rookie who's a total virgin and CHARISMA who's got the most inaccurate nickname ever, the other characters look cool. Ninja is definitvely a trap.
The ep was a bit boring hope it'll be more entertaining next time.

I really can't help looking at this show like a carbon copy of Double Decker but dialed a notch back in the "over the top department" (wich in my opinion is one of the things that made Double Decker fun and enjoyable)

  • Silly Boss that no one takes him seriously? √
  • Codenames given by the Boss? √
  • Senior detective making fun of the rookie? √
  • Senior detective is also the one moving the story forward? √

I really dislike a lot of Shiori's deduction process, like "a politican owns a daruma with a blank eye, he sure wanted to be re-elected" I feel that there's a lot of missing context. Since this world is filled with eleves, dwarves, vampires and what not, I would prefer if there was some supernatural power behind Shiori's "lie detector" ability

Like some peeps already pointed out, we really need some explanation on behalf of Seiji being shot point blank in the last episode, and being slashed in this one, but there are no scars or even cuts on his clothes.

Hope at least like Double Decker, the sidecharacters get their own story episodes in the long run.

There was some very sloppy continuity checking there - Rookie gets slashed along his upper left leg, cutting his pants and drawing some blood - but there was no sign of that in any of the following scenes.

I don't know how with such a colorful cast of characters the show can still manage to be so yawn-inducing. Really hope it gets better from here, and that the individual characters receive a bit more focus, because it really isn't holding my attention right now.

That interrogation at the start was an excellent study of body language. All the classic signs of lying, like covering your mouth or looking away.

The disappearing cut on Rookie's leg is quite a silly mistake for an otherwise great series, though...

Episode 2 was a lot better than episode 1. I guess they just needed the action in episode 1 to get people interested - while I prefer some description and explanations.

Here we got the team introduced and some case with more investigation less action. Also deeper background plot is hinted at. (Guy with the jewel from episode 1 and the guy he delivered the jewel to was that leader of those enemy group that that seems still free and alive. At least he looked like that I think.)

One of the culprits at the end during his fight with the rookies also mentioned that some other guys were behind it (having it ordered).

And btw ... great voice actor for Ichinose. Saw he did Cop Craft (Matoba) recently and I have seen some other anime where I didn't remember his voice that well anymore. I should pay more attention to him.

That was a decent first case for the Rookie, as well as a decent introduction to the main seven. (I'm curious how that vampire can walk in daylight)

The investigation felt a little too simplistic to me, but I figured since politicians are involved there must be some sort of omerta going on where people are keeping silent about the truth.

The banter with Charisma and Rookie was built on well, not too antagonistic or overwhelming, they will make a good team in time.

Okay does "Rookie" have some sort of regeneration power? He took a shot to the gut and now a cut to the leg and he walks away from both LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED! I call bullshit, he has to have some kind of ability

This episode really reminded me of Double Decker. It had the protagonist get a new job, a goofy boss, nick names, a partner that looks like he's from a weird BL manga. Also, the protagonist's nickname was Rookie here as well. (Although, if it changes next episode, the similarities would be too great.)

Those guys went to lengths for a pure government, damn hectic.

Rookie did pretty well on his first assignment, that punch though. But if Charisma didn't save him with a bike, he would've been a goner.

Was a decent ep. One of the cases where I feel like BSD style over the top/quirkiness would've worked well, this show kinda feels too down to earth? (which is ironic considering this is a more supernatural show than BSD)

Like others have already mentioned, I hope at some point the anime addresses Rookie's ability to receive injuries at point blank range but walk away unscathed as if nothing happened. First with the gunshot in the previous episode and now getting slashed on the leg in this one. There are supernatural elements in this show so maybe he has some kind of power.

As everyone quotes it best (without much of Cop Craft, but similar feelings).

"Rookie" Seiji trying to understand the world that the Special 7 was initiated to deal with, along with the introduction to the characters in the team and their codenames, which always serve as tacticals in the Force.

For his first task, taking into the politics case with "Charisma" Ichinose...which felt like a typical bread and butter case, with some of his involvement as input and experience but with understanding.

Not too shabby, but I'd wish I have an idea of where this could go.

1st episode he gets shot at point blank range then the writer says he Dodged it, even though he only moved after the weapon fired, at point blank range.
2nd episode coworker says don't ask my 1st name even though coworker already showed him his Badge in the 1st episode.
Then, Main Character gets slashed but in the scene after it, There's no wound or any blood to be seen.

I hope they have some excuses coming soon.

I think Boss already teased explanation when he told that dragons can give abilities/powers to people and this is no coincidence that rookie survived terrorist attack by people who wanted power from dragons.

He was also Mao in Mao-sama Retry last season, and he's used the same voice in all 3, at least change it a little. I can't not hear the other characters when he talks, kind of distracting.

-I hope Warlock is the main antagonist cause he has a cool-ass design.
-I like that we got a bigger look at the cast, but they all seem extremely typical, to be honest.
>This guy wants a politician dead for cheating.
I hate to break it to him, but he is going to have to take down a LOT of politicians.
-I would just like to say that Kenjirou Tsuda has been doing an amazing job at voicing Ichinose. It's one of those times where it feels like they could not have possibly picked a better VA.
I may start liking this show, but as of right now it's still just a 5 for me.

Good Lord, Kiryuin is awful at giving code names xD

Overall, decent episode but I think the first one was better... in terms of entertainment, at least. The case wasn't really that interesting and Ichinose's deductions don't convince me for some reason. Wonder if he has some kind of special ability in that regard tho.

"Samurai vampire, cool right?"
Eh, it's just as cool as those code-names. (Or as enjoyable as sword-fighting in high-heels.)

Anyway, the show isn't really gaining my attention. I often feel my eyes fall toward my second monitor (to this thread, funnily enough). I see a lot of people comparing this to Cop Craft and I can see the similarities with the overall/main case, although the fantasy is a little more strong than CCs.

Still, CC is strong in character and presence compared to this... but that's a little early, well, one episode early to overall judge if I should continue with this. Still, I find myself liking the animation design, but that can't save it from me finding the characters weak.

But hey, hitting a perp with a bike is nice, although, I feel like that would happen in Kabukichō Sherlock. instead.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

Yeah I am thinking he might either been given power by a dragon or is a dragon himself. He didn't bat an eye when guy starts laying all that information on him despite the fact that it was supposed to be things he had never heard before. Seems pretty sketchy.

For a second I really thought those scandals were just too weak to put someone on a death list, but hearing that explanation afterwards really made sense why they were put there

Damn Charisma is incredible, figuring who the culprit is from the start and even having a jimmy neutron moment where he basically knew how the crime was committed

I have to admit Rookie sure has some good reflexes, and probably some crazy healing ability if he still can walk around normally with all the injuries he got
