| Me and my friend debated a while over who was/is the most intelligent character in anime. Well we came to a stalemate, so who do you guys think? And try to rule out the obvious ones that are always mentioned like, L, Light and Lelouch. (Theres always debates over who´s smarter, L or Light) Some contenders on the top of my head: Yang Wenli and Reinhard von Lohengramm from LotGH - Havent seen it yet so I dont really know who they are, but I´ve seen them mentioned alot of times. Shiro and Sora from NGNL - I think Shiro is the smarter of them, but their IQ must be crazy high. Johan Liebert from Monster - Really manipulative and aint afraid to play dirty Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan - Haven´t seen much of it, but in my opinion he doesnt beat L in detective skills. Shikamaru from Naruto - Good strategist, cant see him beating Lelouch though. Aizen from Bleach- Quite similar to Johan Liebert in some aspects Houtarou Oreki from Hyouka - A case of more realistic everyday intelligence Tokuchi Toua from One Outs - Even though its a sports anime, the guy is crazy smart Kind of a underdog: Meruem from HxH - Dude was a couple days(?) old and still beat all but one on every game there was Inferno Cop - My personal favourite, cant see anyone beating this guy. He probably has the IQ of all previous listed persons combined. |

| Most of those characters don't deserve to be on that list really. • Yang Wenli and Reinhard von Lohengramm from LotGH: I've only watched the 2 movies but they already seem witty and the show makes them appear to be far smarter than the people around them. • Shiro and Sora from NGNL: They win because of the whole "Blank doesn't lose" asspull and not because they're smart. It's half ignoring the rules and half the plot just going the way they want. • Johan Liebert from Monster: Intelligent but since he's the antagonist we see more of his results than his means. It would be a far bigger achievement if the show was following him. • Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan: He has been solving cases for almost 800 episodes now with a pretty big handicap unlike L so kudos to him. • Shikamaru from Naruto: Same as Johan where the series shows more results than means and in this case it's not even as great as with Johan. • Aizen from Bleach: More like worse Johan. • Houtarou Oreki from Hyouka: As fun as the show was, the mystery wasn't anything overly complicated to label Oreki as some really intelligent person. • Meruem from HxH: Doesn't say much to be honest. He was never able to beat Komugi and she is just an ordinary girl except for her Gungi skills. Alakazam has an IQ of 5000. It's the smartest being that ever appeared on anime. |

Alakazam is a god but a lvl 1 Alakazam would still lose to a lvl 99 Magikarp, and would he beat inferno cop though? And for the others, they are just condenders, I have no doubt in my mind that Light for example, would wipe the floor with Oreki in "smartness level". But you also got to keep in mind, that I made the list to show different kinds of intelligent. For example Light, Shiro and Oreki are more "IQ smart", while Lelouch and Shikamaru are strategists. Its a bit harder to compare different categories |

I think Monster would lose its lore if it followed Johan. By showing only the results of his action the show manages to transform him in some kind of identity (consider the anti christ allusions), someone who can be anywhere at any given time. With this they were able to make his persona much more terrifying and effective. If the show followed him around all the time he would feel like your standard calculist psychopath and I don't think that was what they were aiming for. |
