THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So this was the first episode without any music performed, unless you count Kaoru's "avant garde" performance. And to tell the truth, I actually would count that, because it was the perfect expression of the tension in his heart that was only released when he met his mother.

So Jun might be missing for real? I mean, look at all the letters Yurika sent him. He'd have checked them by now if he wasn't missing. And I doubt Yurika sent like 8 letters at once lol.

Amazing episode, 5/5.

Last week I ranted about that episode not being my taste, too melodramatic, I prematurely dismissed the series even though I had like or even loved it to that stage. Silly me.

Never thought I'd say this, but thank heavens I'm ambivalent sometimes, or I wouldn't have seen this magnificent episode. So much is "resolved" and much of the pressure goes away in a very satisfying manner. Safe to say I think it's back on track with my expectations.

A very mature and insightful episode in many ways. I really hope the quick way things are resolved is a foretelling of structure in later episodes - would really ease some "might be" drama., although I have little to no doubt this lovely, precocious trio couldn't handle it.

In a strange way, compared to other weeks, I feel rather content with the substance received, and can't really say I'm too eager to see the next episode (although I naturally want to).

Sentarou proves to be a quite empathetic character with tactfulness, shown by his reactions after he witnessed Ritsuko's talk with Kaoru and latter one's conversation with his mother, and more importantly, a good friend. Indeed, friendships are for a lifetime in contrast to love affairs.

It's great to see how supportive these two are to each other. Kaoru has helped Sentarou out by arranging the meetings with Yurika, now Sentarou acts as an catalyzer between his friend and the two females Kaoru hesitated to approach.

On another note, I doubt Jun was spending time with a girl but rather had to hide as his roommate suggested at first. If this is the case then I could see some really interesting turn of events coming up especially with how Yurika will play into this.

This is simply amazing, I hope it won't end too soon.

The interaction between the characters feels very natural, Kaoru tried to approach Ristuko and she clearly rejected him in the end which was a good thing since she avoided that topic, I liked how they talked through through the tin can phone, that was a good scene.

Sentarou learned that she likes someone and it was funny that he was going to ask his sister who it is, I hope he will learn it soon, it could get bothersome if that topic drags on for too long.
Good thing he wasn't found out when he visited Kaoru, who knows what his family might have thought but that was a good scene, too. I like how Kaoru and Sentarou encourage each other and I didn't expect Sentarou to go with Kaoru to Tokyo, if it weren't for him Kaoru would've run away. I enjoyed the scenes with Kaoru's mother, I hope he will see her again, too bad we didn't learn why she left, though but I guess that doesn't matter anymore for Kaoru.

Oh boy, what is going on with Jun, I was surprised he wasn't there and I'm not sure what happened, he got sick of Yurika perhaps but would you leave because of that?

Hmm, so Ri-chan really is in love with Sentaro then maybe? :/
Was hoping the romance wouldn't be so cliche in this one, oh well, the series will be longer with it that way :P

Oh man when Sentarou went out when Ri-chan and Kaoru were talking I was like "NOOO HE'S SURROUNDED BY AWKWARDNESS." If he went back down he would have seen Yurika and Jun bounding but where he was he heard something that was a personal matter between Ritsuko and Kaoru(Thank goodness it didn't get as awkward as I thought it was.)

Glad to see Kaoru reunite with his mother though. All that despair in his heart from hi heartbreak was up-lifted and it was thanks to Sentarou for giving him that extra push for him to go see his mother. Man I am really digging Sentarou, he's a really damn great character.

Curious to what happened with Jun(Seeing as how they hinted he might be out with another girl.) and if I recall Jun and Yurika were talking earlier and she had sent many many letters and he had not responded to one. He may have gotten mixed up with a "bad" faction after all. Who knows though he seemed to have been developing that bound with Yurika as they were alone in the basement! Might have led to something!
Fantastic episode. Can't wait for next week.

Wow, I gotta say, Jun is EXTREMELY hot XD
Poor Sentarou can't have Yurika.. I'm a Sentarou x Ritsuko shipper though, so whatevs :P

OMGOMGOMGOMORGOSDGMOSGMDSOGOSFSOKIFJ:WFJWSFJKDS!!!!!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DDD: Sentarou didn't find out *sad face* ugh I'm so for the two of them though. So cute and adorable.
AAWWWWWW. Sentarou's embarrassed by Ri'iko!!! I can't waaait until he finds out<3
^ I think I'm finally gonna get the couple I'm shipping in this show :D

Awww, I love Sentarou. He's so sweet and is always there for Kaoru :)
Poor Kaoru though. I don't respect his love for Ri'ko because it was too sudden, but it's still hard seeing him cry. I shed a tear as well :(

Kaoru's mom is so amazing and kind. I'm so happy he's over his crush on Ri'ko though :D

5/5 - No music performance this episode. Sucks. D;

^ Epic xD

I felt sad mostly in the epi but I did feel it was a bit much with Kaoru's emotionless state but I guess only cause it seemed like he was there for a lil time when in truth, there's been enough time to rly like her and rly feel pain for his rejection. So thumbs up for this epi!

Good episode. While I didn't find the mother and child reunion emotional, I did like how it was used to resolve the situation with Kaoru and Ritsuko. It was nice to see the bond between Kaoru and Sentarou strengthen, and I'm looking forward to seeing what problems the situation with Jun may bring.

Lots of emotion in this episode. I just love the way everything was done. The can on a string phone rejection was legendary. As if it wasn't official before, Kaoru has permanently established himself in the friendzone. Gotta feel for him. Then the trip to see his mom, and I wish he had more time to talk to her, he didn't get to address her feelings at all. Hopefully he really does come back to see her, I could easily see it not happening though. Sentaro is such a bro, accompanying Kaoru to see his mom even with no money. What a great friend.

And again, feeling sorry for Sentaro, Yurika obviously loves Jun and not him, plus he's still eager to know who Ri-chan likes, and Kaoru knows she likes Sentaro, but won't tell him! C'mon son, throw the guy a bone here! So sad to see Kaoru crying as he ate the food Ri-chan made for him, just really sad. Hoping Kaoru can move on and find someone else, but no matter what, even if he acts normal around Ri-chan like he appears to be doing at the end of the episode, things aren't going to be the same for them ever again. Loving the sheer amount of shit that happens in each episode, I don't know how they do it.

What is it you don't understand?

Hm, we are all pretty sure that she likes Sentarou, he doesn't know that and they are childhood friends, so I guess she never really thought of confessing to him and just wanted to keep staying friends. But it got really hard for her when she saw that Sentarou likes Yurika, a love rival situation even though Yurika doesn't like him. She probably thinks that she would lose him as a friend and as the person she loves. Then there is Kaoru who likes Ritsuko, told her that and even kissed her, she likes him but she doesn't love him. That's the other problem she had, she had to tell him, otherwise he would've continued and pressed her in a corner like that, she doesn't want to lose him as a friend but she can't respond to his feelings, either. It's a dilemma for her and of course she would be confused, girl porbably doesn't know what to do. She was lucky that Sentarou brought him back.

I wonder what will happen with Jun missing and how Yurika fits in there.

Wow, what a great emotional episode.

I don't know if I'm the only one here.. but I'm rooting for Kaoru! I really like his character a lot and I hope he doesn't give up and settle in the friend zone. I like imperfect characters that has room to grow for development. It makes anime shows such as this, really interesting for me.

Sentarou is a good character and a friend. But I'm getting get this typical glorified shounen vibe from him... He can beat up anybody, strong, good looking, great with the ladies, really nice guy, eats a lot, and is dense towards a girl who really likes him.. hmmm..

Well this eposide started in a ~AWKWARD~ moment.

REALLY CUTE

Awwww it was adorable Richie playing String telephone with Sentarou sister.

Oh so it was Ritsuko first kiss and wont really forgive Richie for it, Ouch. Although, she cant stay mad at him ( yeah who couldnt)
That she is flattered by the way richie feel about her but she likes some one else, double ouch. Rejected that even hurt me while i watched poor richie if she doesnt want him then i will.

Richie like Ritsuko, but Ritsuko likes Sentarou, but Sentarou likes Yurika, but Yurika likes Jun, and we dont know who Jun likes yet. Oh damn what a soap! Right?

Omg how funny it was when Sentarou showed up at Richies window.

Then when Richie's dad knock on the door Sentarou was hiding under the covers hahahhaha yeah sure that worked and the dad played it cool like he didnt notice XD he really didnt want to know who was in his son's room hahha.

Because later this happend:
But the couldnt fool Richie's cousin Mariko.XD

Awwww Richie crying that just killed me.

Soooo cute and funny to see Richie and Sentarou drunk and soo fast too they cant hold their liquor (of course i dont encourage underaged drinking haha.)

What a lovely moment when Richie and his mom just laughed and crying a lil. How nice to fix that lost connection.

And for now it seems that things have settle in Richie's heart and everything is back to normal.

A really emotional episode indeed.

Oh, the bromance between Kaoru and Sentarou. Jeez, Sen landing on top of Kaoru is such a cliche shoujo act, hahaha. I love the interaction with Kaoru and his mom. It was so uplifting to see him get back on his feet after that rejection.

Honestly, this was such a nice episode. Kaoru has real eyes for women. I would have been head-over-heels in love with Ritsuko too.

We still don't know what happened to Jun-nii and why Kaoru's mother left him in the first place. Speaking of Kaoru's mom, I think by now she realizes she longed for those days and never should have left in the first place.

5/5 for Ritsuko running away, approved bromance and Kaoru welcoming Ritsuko with a sunshine smile. :)

Indication of friendship over love affairs came from an outside character but might as well become the end note of the story. Which is in a way, might be for the best of the anime. :)

Loved the episode. Even though Ritsuko rejected Kaoru, I don't think it is the end. I'm pretty sure there is still a chance they might end up together.

I love the friendship between Kaoru and Sentaro. It is just so beautiful and I hope girls and love won't get between them. I hate how sometimes love ruin friendships but I hope it won't happen here.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure there's no chance at all. Kaoru has been "friendzoned" for good. Don't get me wrong, I think they would make a great couple, but Ritsuko has her heart set. I have a feeling she would continue loving Sentarou even if he married someone else.

I cannot describe how much I loved, loved, LOVED this episode! This anime is one of the few that I've found that really tells the story in a way that you can understand exactly what the characters are thinking... without having an annoying voice over dialouge of inner thoughts.
Natsume Takashi better watch it or Sentaro might just become my favorite male character. It was so cute how he just showed up at Kaoru's window and jumped in! And I grinned ear to ear during the train scene.

Both of them are now on my fav characters list.

Such a great adaptation, but they decided to cut some important scenes, which is a bummer. Maybe because of duration limits. I hope they include those scenes in the BD. Looks like they toned down the bromance from the manga. The manga's much more upfront in this episode.

Difference between manga and anime in this episode:

Big plus though for the amount of music added. Couldn't ask for better.

Sentaro is such a bro, a true bro. Even though I have bros I am jelly of Kaoru. And he should just forget about Ritsuko. She's not worth the trouble. And I think Kaoru's "love" wasn't genuine, just infatuation. With his piano skills, he could pull in all the bitches he want (ones better than ritsuko. I don't like her that much, not because she rejected him).

Was hoping on knowing the exact reason why they divorced (though I have a couple of ideas), but meh, I loved this shit
