God.. I've said this many times before, but Yui is damn gorgeous, especially in that dress. Although you should've compliment a girl when she dressed herself, Hachiman (and all man in the world).

The whole prom looks pretty good so far, they sure managed to
pull off a lot in only a short amount of time.

Kawasaki tightening Yui's dress was pretty funny.

Looks like some problems might arise with Yukino's mom showing up, wonder how things will play out?

Maybe I liked this series originally because I began watching it when I was 17? But now that I'm 21, it's like...who cares about these kids' issues?

I'm now 17 and I am really enjoying this series. I don't know why you're complaining about how "stuff just happens" but that just the point of Slice of Life shows.

I don't know if in the near future, my amount of enjoyment for this show will lessen. But I do agree that a certain age demographic will really like this show because it "hits home" really well (especially in teenagers).

I think slice of life shows can still have a clear structure. For example, season 1 of Clannad was about the characters trying to revive the drama club.

I agree. She's easily the best girl and has the best chemistry with Hachiman. <3 Iroha.

There isn't a clear goal (viewing this as an anime-only), but probably the biggest thing many of us are looking forward to is how Hachiman grows + who he eventually ends up with. That was kind of the main issue coming off from last season. For now, just watching these characters grow and interact is still the main draw for the series, as is usually the case for slice-of-life series.

I'm just a bit past college age and I still enjoy this series' character interactions relative to other anime.

Oregairu S3 plot points that you might miss in the anime, I made this because there are many people who are confused, what's the conflict so far?
1. Hachiman was lonely because there was no club and he never interacted with Yukino, this caused him to play games till midnight because he didn't know what to do. He invited Totsuka for this reason too. In the LN, he often ran into Yukino but as long as he had no reason, he couldn't help her even if he wanted to. He always uses logical reason to act, never with his own feelings
2. Kawasaki's words in eps 1. Kawasaki said Hachiman was not self-aware that he often spoil others. At that time Kawasaki talked about Hachiman who often helped Yukinoshita.
3. Komachi has grown up and started to separate herself from her brother. In this episode Komachi cried. Hachiman finally realized that Komachi was only pretending to be strong and she didn't want to make Hachiman worry. This situation is the same as Yukino as a reflection. Yukino wanted to make her own decision and asked them to watch over her without relying on the two of them. But Hachiman always asked in his monologues(LN) "Is this okay?" and he always questioned whether Yukinoshita had made the right choice?
4. Iroha and Haruno said that Hachiman acted like a good big brother to Yukino, always overprotective, worried, always wanting to help, etc.
5. Yukino since childhood has always had freedom, while Haruno was restrained by her parents, but because of that Haruno had a clear goal in her life. Yukino became confused and directionless. So she always imitated Haruno since she was a kid, because she thought it was the best. Since the end of season 2, Yukino began copying Hachiman's choices.

Well, a more-mellow episode, but I do have mixed feelings after seeing everyone's opinions (especially @cchigu and @jasanime), and I sadly have to agree that this was just a weak episode throughout.

For one, Komachi's graduation and her passing the entrance exam, the LN (or at least the manga adaptation that I referred to) had more content and it was more fleshed out over there. The anime only wasted like a quarter of the runtime to finish off the whole ordeal (which was a highlight), which was less satisfying and finished on a sour note for me.

On the topic of Iroha though, she's the strongest junior, but also cunning, irritating and happy-go-lucky against Hachiman, playing the little sister archetype that's like Komachi with the Yui rebuttal. Settling for a prom with Yukinon helming together was a treat and certainly with an open-minded thinking, but for Hachiman, being the casual loner he usually is, his help only extends as far as his being open to not just Yui and Yukino, but also to Iroha as well. Had quite the giggle with her banter, but it was fine.

The small tidbit of tsundere Kawasaki (I'm still pretty mystified that the noveiist just decided to ham Kawasaki as Kawa-whoever) is enjoyable though, both at her young brother's entrance exam qualification and when she was dressing Yui up.

AND THE TRAP Totsuki is back! Hachiman still blushing when the trap's face is very close to him was a totally gay moment there, it was an endless smile up my face.

And yup, a PV for the school prom...that always works when reaching out to the masses. The momentary lift from Hachiman to Yui, how I wished for this pairing so bad, SO VERY BADLY. At least Yukinon in a tuxedo looks eye-glitteringly dashing.

Next episode, Yukinon's confrontation with her mum, how good or bad things will go from there, we'll see next week.

Superb episode, as always.

Wait, is Hiratsuka-sensei leaving the school or something?

I didn't know just how close Komachi and Yui had got, to the point that Yui ran over to find Komachi after the entrance exam results had been announced! Loved that moment. Also, Komachi cried harder with Yui than she did with Hachiman lol

Also, is Fuku the name of Hachiman's mother? "おふく様" ('o fuku sama'). I wonder what that scene meant, since we haven't seen much of Hachiman's parents in the series.

Dialogue this season is still as superb as the previous seasons. Completely loved the conversation between Iroha and Hachiman there. There's just an awesome flow to it. And this season, Hachiman's comments are just getting better and funnier.

"Huh, what? That's kinda scary, stop looking so serious. No, for real, don't do that. Stop it. It's scary."

The Japanese sounds even funnier lol

And Iroha's smug face at "So basically, you're attracted to younger women?" was just pure gold.

Using LINE and then subsequently just following a bunch of cat accounts is definitely a Yukino thing to do.

I don't mean anything bad, but I have to say the tailcoat suit looks weird on Yukino. I guess it is true that most of the people there probably couldn't dance properly for the role, and only she could.

As a Yui fan, disregarding whether the ending is with her or not, this was an episode I really enjoyed. It was nice seeing Yui so happy with Hachiman there, dancing in the prom. Not to mention she looked killer in that dress! Her voice and everything is just so sweet. Whatever happens, at least there's this great moment. Seemed like Yui was really enjoying dancing with Hachiman. Also liked the more upbeat dancing music, felt groovy. Hachiman's dancing there was so awkward though lol

I was looking for Hachiman in the dance scenes and found that he had disappeared. Hachiman truly knows how to blend into and escape from a crowd. Was surprised and not at the same time that he was already on the sidelines.

Also really liked the way he said "This isn't my thing at all." but I couldn't fully catch the Japanese, but I just really liked the tone and intonation of it.

Next episode looks to be an eventful one. Yukino's mother and sister coming to school? What for?

And what I'm looking forward (and scared of) most personally, that title.

"By Chance, Yui Yuigahama Thinks of the Future."

Can't wait for next episode. What is in store for us?

Also, I'd just like to say for those who have read the LN, could you please use spoiler tags, especially when discussing things that haven't happened yet? I mean things like saying this particular scene could've been handled better and it was good in the LN is good and all since it doesn't give us any information on the future of the series, but things like talking about the ending (even if somewhat ambiguously) might just spoil it for some watchers here like me who's had to really put in the effort to avoid spoilers ever since the final volume was out. I'm not saying your opinions are wrong or anything, I and I think some people here would just like to experience the story as it unfolds in the anime, even if it is not 100% the same as the light novel.

So if you want to talk about stuff in the LN that hasn't happened yet in the anime, please use spoiler tags so those watching the anime that haven't read any other adaptation or source material can discover the story on their own if they want to. Thanks a lot! And if you've read this far, thank you for reading my post too ^^

thanks, i fucking love it. This episode was good, Komachi successfully passed her entrance exams and showed more emotion to Yui then her brother, and Hachiman was about to suplex his future brother in law.
Oh they definitely did me dirty with Saika's appearance. I thought that after s2 my man hood had fully recovered, and looking at a picture of him wouldn't make me feel a thing. I was wrong. i was so very wrong my heart was reaching BPM levels that shouldn't be possible for a single human.
Iroha definitely has one of those unforgettable personalities i swear, i really liked her role in s2 and she definitely grew on me. Although the Iroha and Hachiman ship is destined to never make it past port like the hidden Saki and Hachiman one, a man can dream.
Yukino, the complete alpha dominate being in the room i swear. The suit 100% fits her tbh, and she can fucking dance, wtf does she mean "casual level" i swear her moves could break peoples ankles, poor Iroha looked like she was on a fucking roller coaster holding on for dear life.
so far i'm liking were this plot is heading, definitely has me hooked rn.

Honestly, I didn't like this episode as much as the first 2 episodes. Just @ochigu mentioned, the Komachi part wasn't really appealing or emotional. It's a decent episode nonetheless as I really enjoyed watching it, but it's just not as good as the first 2 episodes.

I would give this episode a 4 out of 5. It definitely can be a little better.

This episode felt light-hearted compared to the previous two, which is a nice little change, personally. At least we got to see Totsuka again! =D

Seeing that Komachi and Saki's younger brother both passing their entrance exams was really nice. Komachi cries pretty easily, doesn't she? ^_^;

Another thing that I enjoyed in this episode is the chemistry of Hachiman and Iroha when they were talking. Honestly, it felt like a banter as well as a serious talk, but the wordplay between the two of them was amusing as always.

As for the prom, Yukino does look good in a suit, as does the lovely dresses that Iroha and Yui wore as well. As a Yui fan, I had to smile when both Yui and Hachiman were dancing together.

Either way, it looks like the next episode is getting serious again, with Yukino meeting her mother for that talk at last. I hope this'll work out for her...

Not gonna lie, now that the direction of travel for this season is obvious, I'm finding myself fast losing interest in this show. Maybe it's partially because I'm no longer at the same age as the characters (I'm 21 now, but was 16 when S2 was airing and loved it), but even considering that this season feels far weaker than season 2 did in my recent rewatch. I'm not even sure why, really, but everything just feels so overblown and it feels like they're dancing around stating the obvious even more than seasons 1 and 2 already did.

I'm also not even sure what the arc is supposed to be here besides the Yukino stuff, whereas season 2 had strong arcs to work with from the start. I'm sure I'll make it to the end unless something goes seriously wrong, but this is a huge disappointment so far.

Okay episode, nothing in particular to mention. For now, this season feels far weaker than s1 and s2. Maybe I'm just losing my interest in the series, even though I just watched the first and second season before the third was about to air. The characters and their interactions seem to have become dull for me, I really hope it can pick up ahead.

I'm rewatching while reading the novel and what I could say is that probably people just grew up.

And second, 8man grew up. When you compare earlier 8man, he was more entertaining and twisted. He would banter with Yukinoshita, he would recall his cringy traumas, be proud of his lonership, and introduce us to his inner reasoning by monologues.

Gradually that became less and less common in season 2, as it shifted to a more serious and mature tone as relationships inevitably became complex. The trio tiptoes around now and be awkwardly nice to each other (not genuine at all). Sure it's realistic but the sense of the "gone wrong than I expected" has been slowly rubbed off in each passing episode, and we're left with what seems like a staple romantic, slice-of-life (with comedy sprinkled here and there) and not the My Teen Romantic-Comedy SNAFU that everyone expected 5 years ago.

But, eh. LN readers, which is the majority of the ones who are complaining, always try to impart their expectations to the anime to feel smug and superior when in fact, the two should be treated differently. That's why you should take their opinions with a big pinch of salt lol.

I FKN LOVE SAKI!
How is it possible that Saki has so easily cemented herself as one of the best girls in Yahari with so little screen time?
From her tearful reaction to Taishi’s good news, to her agreeable attitude to help Yui on such short notice...I’m just a really big fan of her!

Glad this season focused on some side characters — I wish there was more Ebina as well, she had some interesting discussions with Hachiman in S2.

Birds don't mess up their nest before leave - Hiratsuka sensei says.. Is she leaving school or something?.. A bit out of nowhere.. Maybe something else..
Hachiman wanted to invite Totsuka to hang out?.. Not such a loner anymore, huh.. ;P Well, Hachiman isn't a loner for a long time now, really.. Just introverted.. But when he wants something, he can talk, or invite group to think on problem, or invite Totsuka now.. Being fine with him busy as well..
Everyone running so hard for their siblings and friends getting accepted, even Yui to congratulate Komachi.. It's that big of a deal about high school in Japan?.. I don't know.. I didn't really see Hachiman's school as prestigious or something.. But I don't know too much about his school, really..
Hachiman and Iroha having serious talk on onii-chans, lol.. This topic of Hachiman acting as big brother towards others was raised before in this season as well.. Is he acting like that?.. Hm.. Not sure.. I'm not even sure, what is to act as big brother to begin with.. I'm older and younger brother myself, having 2 sisters, but I wouldn't say that you necessary have to be protective of them.. I myself prefer to give them space to do what they wanna.. But also will express opinions on stuff, if asked.. But I wouldn't really call it overprotectiveness.. As well as I don't see Hachiman being overprotective.. I can't really take it too seriously, though - maybe it's just some playing around about roles in life talk or something between Iroha and Hachiman, I'd say..
Anyway, I liked their talk, I guess.. It's a bit fun.. Though, they seemed agitated more than having nice time, lol.. ;D
Yukino patting cat pic on phone is adorbs, lol.. ;P
This time it seems that Yukino enjoys working on task more.. Than during festival before.. Well, this time it's out of her own will as well.. ;P
Iroha is going to be more mindful?.. Mindful about what?.. About inviting people?.. Well, I wouldn't really say that her inviting style is any bad.. If anything, for Iroha to learn some more orthodox asking to help style or something - might not really work.. I'm personally fine, if she stays the way she is.. Especially if it works.. Don't fix something that's not broken, pretty much.. If problems arise, she'll be able to fix them, by inviting other people in this case, or something.. .. But also if she wants to be more cautious about things - well, if that's her wish - let her try it.. And see for herself, what kind of things work for her, and what kind of things don't.. Some might not be successful from first try, but after some.. In the end.. I guess.. She can do, what she wants.. But I'd also be fine, really, if she'd stay, as she is.. Spontaneously asking people.. And asking people a lot.. You get more done, if you ask for more.. But I can see and negative, yeah.. In the end, she can do, what she wants, but I think in either way it can be fine and some problems which can arise in both ways - can be fixable.. And some not really, as well..
Like when Iroha a bit later at 16:03 grabs Yukino's hand selfishly.. Who cares if she's again pressuring and stuff?.. It works for her, I say.. Sometimes it's even better to take initiative in your own hands.. The problems may arise with person getting reluctant.. But Iroha can be persistent and persuasive.. I think this works for her, and not sure, if she really needs changing..
Well, everyone is so pretty, and stylish, and cool, or elegant, or something.. Fancy is fancy.. ;P
And yeah.. Problem isn't really that Iroha is asking for too much.. It doesn't look like so.. Problem can be in that she maybe does so in last minute.. She really can do what she does already just a bit earlier, and that's pretty much it.. She still might ask for much, really, if she wants to do much.. Some people will not agree for everything, maybe a part or something, but maybe more people will be needed then, just..
Yui also looks much more mature..
And like.. Considerate way of asking by Yukino, for example.. At 20:06.. "If it's too difficult, we'll use another method".. It's also a pressuring way, really, as well.. Even if maybe that's not intention.. What I want to say.. That some pressure is fine.. And how Iroha does it.. It even brings energy, enthusiasm, really.. It won't work all the time, really, of course.. But I still think Iroha's way of talking people into participating is quite positive, I'd say..
Tobe being supportive on this filming, by the way.. To Hachiman, and we saw him encouraging guys before as well..
I get you, Hachiman.. ;D Dances are not my thing as well.. ;P
Overall, nice episode.. Even if I don't like gatherings like that myself, because I both don't know how to dance and don't want to learn how to dance as well.. Dancing is annoying to me personally.. As well as in offline life I don't like too much people getting fancy dressed and stuff.. Well, it's like with how some cute stuff anime girls do - some of it is annoying in offline, while enjoyable in fiction.. There are plenty of things like that, actually.. Like killing cops in GTA or something, but of course I'd have no freaking fun killing cops in real life.. Well, either way..
Returning to how episode was overall.. Yeah, a bit surprisingly I enjoyed how fancy people were, how they were pretty and stuff.. A bit surprising in this point..
Also a bit surprising point in episode was how it was important to everyone that Komachi or other guy managed to get into high school.. In Japan it's big deal, eh?.. I don't find Hikki's school as prestigious, though, but what do I know.. Still it was wholesome, tee-tee and stuff, to see how people cared about each other here..
Yukino enjoying working on prom is nice.. Nice to see her truly enjoying something..
Yui is pretty as always, I guess.. But she's always pretty.. ;D Also I think it's a bit surprising how Hachiman can be openly self-deprecating about his sweat with her, and then get over it.. They both really managed to dissolve discomfort there, way to go for them both, nicely done, you two.. ;P Hachiman and Yui really from times to times are able to have honest conversations about plenty of stuff..
And finally Iroha.. I personally think her methods are alright and she doesn't really need to change.. I don't think problem is in how she asks, or that she's a bit selfish.. It's ok to ask for help, she wouldn't be able to make prom without other people, really.. Only thing I see she can change - maybe ask in some time ahead for help.. And that's it.. But for the most I find it even a bit admirable, how she can involve people into stuff being done sometimes.. Through teases and stuff.. It works for her, I say.. As long as everyone enjoyed the filming for prom - it's good.. And they did enjoy it, atmosphere was so, which is nice.. And really.. If you just blandly ask for help without teases.. Sometimes people need push in their asses to get going, and to enjoy the work, really.. But that's how it seems to me.. ;P You won't make happy everyone, though.. In the end.. For now I see how she does things - good.. Just if she wants, she can do it a bit ahead in time, and problem solved, pretty much, I'd say..

Got a lot of screentime for all of the girls this episode. Man. it's so hard to decide who the best girl is! My decision keeps on changing depending on who is on screen.

But I must say, Yui stole this one for me the second I saw her. She is too pretty!

i think this first 3 episode is the weakest starting from this anime so far. i hope this is just a foreshadowing in upcoming ep as i do not read the original source.

A lighthearted episode finally, Iroha is back at it again with her teasing and all and it's effective on Hachiman. Also 8man is really gei for Totsuka lol. Yui and Iroha looked good in this episode, Yukinon too, but it would've been better if she was in a dress, not in a suit.

A great episode for Yui stan's, lots and lots of moment with our main guy here.

Here's my take on this episode,

-> I thought Hikki already talked about Komachi manage to pass the exam test on the last episode with Hayama? Why is it that we only get the exams results on this episode?

-> It really seems like Hikki started to take notice on Yui, he's staring at her a lot, blushing a lot. I'm hoping for more of these moments in future episode.

-> Yui really did surpress her feelings, you can see it in her facial expressions. Seems like what happened on the last episode really shown out now.

Now on the preview of the next episode, seems like there's gonna be drama. Yukino will tell her mother and sister what she wants to become, while Hikki and Yui will watch over it, just like Yukino's request in the first episode. Can't wait.

This episode was kind of meh tbh, at least compared to the first two previous episodes. Felt they could of done a lot more with Komachi’s entrance exam scene. But hey at least Totsuka is back lol.
