| Generosity is an illusion, because each time the average is changed as well. You can simply normalize your ratings by determining the median, and define it as a 5.0. That holds for all ratings ever cast, and this is precisely how anidb.net normalizes their official ratings for display. So my approach from the start is to spread out my rating around 5/10, because that way after normalization the deltas remain maxed. And that is what really matters then, deltas between two rated items. If you rate everything high, that will be mercilessly made mediocre by normalization, and you shot your own foot. The psychological problem of numerical rating systems is that you create "value" out of thin air, and that makes people think they can be "generous" at no cost. That's a mathematical illusion only. |

You could say, I did prefer the series' ending more than the movie. In the movie, Shinji couldn't get more annoying throughout. The series' ending kinda made him a bit more respectable but the movie, he was so deplorable that it got me frustrated to no end. There wasn't an Anime series or movie that got me so pissed off. The whole mish-mash of abstract stuff that was happening, it got way to overblown. So, anywho... yeah, I didn't like the movie unlike the series. So, it is what it is. |

And it all depends on enjoyability/appreciability, but for me I think I'm relatively generous about it. If I've bothered to watch all of it, it's probably something I enjoyed anyway. | I think how harsh on rates is hard to tell from their scores because it's more about what those scores mean to them and their actual attitude to the score. For instance, as you can see from my sig, I gave BOFURI a 4/10. But I don't hate it or think it's bad. The girls are really cute and the production quality is very good. But my raw enjoyment was very low after the first few episodes and I didn't really get any other value about of the show like emotional highs, comedy, iyashikei, or thematic depth. So I gave it a 4 which on my scale is a show which only just avoided totally boring me. I rate 99% o stuff from 3-10 where 3 is bored and the amount of enjoyment goes up. I don't consider anything on my list from 3-10 as "bad", just more or less enjoyable. I keep the 1-2 scores open for stuff that I feel genuine animosity towards. So, even if someone might see my score for BOFURI as harsh, it really isn't. But to someone else, a score of 4 might mean they really hate a show. To answer the question, I don't think I'm especially generous or harsh. In fact I don't think the concepts really apply. I have a system and I rate by that. When a ruler measures something it isn't being generous or harsh, is it? |

| Bit of both. As a whole, I think I'm fairly generous, in that it's pretty easy to get at least a score of 6-7 from me. But I'm nitpicky too. I can love a show to pieces, but still recognize that it has issues, so I've never used the 10 rating. On the other hand, I can be pretty harsh to shows that annoy me. I used to de-score shows I dropped after just an episode or two because I didn't want to affect the rating for people who might actually like them (and just in case they'd improve later on). But I recently found out that your score doesn't count unless you've seen 1/5 of the episodes, so I went back and re-rated the ones I still had strong opinions on. That was only 3-4 shows, but it brought my mean score down from 6.83 to 6.78, lol. |

| If I watched more anime than I do currently, my average score would likely plummet to a 4 on average given how picky I am! Like, I think I've only watched at best 5 total anime per year for a long while and I barely touch anything that I don't like at a glance. Low-tier anime like the regular seasonal shit would normally just get between 5-3 scores with me, so i think I'm fairly harsh despite my average score being a little above 6. |

| I'm very GENEROUS with scoring a show, as long as I enjoy what I'm watching I can give it 1+ 2+ more in score then it really deserves. A good example woud be No Game No Life and Overlord, they are far from a 10/10 show. But as I enjoy them as much as I did, I rated them 10/10. But, I'm very harash with the rating too. Might be hard to see, but this shows, is a huge disappointment, they might be worth a bit of a higher raiting. Then what I have been scoring them, but as it feels like studios is just wasting money, time and more time to create this pieces of shit. I just get angry and slam on a low score. It's shows that shoud never shoud have been created. And thanks to this feeling the scoring of the shows becomes very harsh. My meanscore have gone down from 5.90 to 5,87 in less then 3 days, and thats all thanks to how much shit each season is releasing. And how it impact my feelings of rating shows. |

| Generous, even if I hated something I try to look at all the things that I DID like about it. For example, elfen lied would be lower than a 3 if I didn’t find the concept of the Diclonius cool. I’m not afraid to rate lower than a 5, but normally it’s a 6-7 if I can find at least a few good things about it. |

| I use MAL scoring pretty literally so a 7 is "good" and a 6 is "fine". Most anime I watch fall into either a 6 or 7. I think that's being pretty generous because there are some people whos mean scores are like a 5.5 or something compared to my 6.8. |

If you look at the affinity formula, you'll see that it also has that calculation of the average and adapting absolute scores relative to your personal average before comparing. You are free to use 7 as "average", but I personally prefer to use 5. And that's pretty much the only difference we have :) As for bad shows, I don't really watch too many bad TV shows because like you say they take long. But I love trashy 20th century OVAs, and rating range 1 to 3 is pretty much where they are. MALGraph has a good plot in which you can see how much watchtime you spend in each of your rating classes. Me too spent most absolute time in 7s, disproportional much time in 8+s (because longer shows tend to get higher ratings from me), and very little time in my 1-3s. But I have many 1-3s because most are shorts and OVAs. Again, this makes perfect sense to me. And a 6 is not "just fine". Only 326 of 798 (40.8%) anime on my list have a rating of 6 or better. On your list 706 of 1002 (70.2%) have ratings of 7 or better. Which means my 6 is "worth" more than your 7, relatively. And after normalization, only relative difference matters. Maybe I'm cursed because I have a college degree in science and not psychology, but to me that all feels very natural :) I export my ratings to anilist and anidb, so I don't work around the lousy MAL formula. I deliver very good raw data in the sense that it is well distributed, and leave it to the servers to make the best of it. Some do better, some do worse - but why would I care? |

| In my point of view, I am fair with my score. I score according to the MAL scale and if i like some show i just give it a 6 or more. Nothing complicated. If I dont like a show I just dont watch it anymore and many times happens that I dont even lose my time putting it on my dropped list. |

| I consider myself pretty generous.I score solely based on enjoyment and production values.I just use the complete MAL scale unlike plebs.If a show is mediocre you give it a 5 and not a 7. Mine scale used to be in 7.x range but after following seasonals it started tanking. |

| For some reason I read 'Sorcerer' instead of 'Scorer' and was wondering what the fuck OP is talking about xD. But I'm definitely a very generous scorer, it's fairly easy to get a 6 or 7 from me as long as I'm mildly entertained and quite hard to get a score lower than 5 from me. Because 5 for me just means I didn't care, wasn't interested or got bored, but without actively disliking any elements. I think many people would give worse scores than 5 to stuff that kinda bored them. |
