A second anime season of Tsutomu Satou's Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) light novel series was announced at the Dengeki Bunko Aki no Namahousou Festival event on Sunday. The new season, titled Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen (The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc), will adapt volumes nine through eleven, and debut in 2020. Risako Yoshida (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo) will direct the second season at animation studio 8bit. Original illustrator Kana Ishida will design the characters. Taku Iwasaki (Noragami, Katanagatari) is returning as the music composer. The main cast members will also reprise their roles. Synopsis Shiba Miyuki's classmate Kitayama Shizuku is on her way to study abroad. For magicians, this is normally impossible, since allowing the genes of someone who can use magic outside their home country's borders is tantamount to giving up national secrets. But it's allowed to happen in one case-exchange programs. And that's how Angelina Kudou Shields has arrived in Japan from the USNA to study at First High. Around the time Lina arrived in Japan magicians began getting attacked by a mysterious being who leaves his victims drained of blood. Will Tatsuya be able to discover the identity of the 'Vampire?' (Source: Mahouka Wikia, edited) Satou originally launched the sci-fi action novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in 2008. Dengeki Bunko began printing the novel with illustrations by Kana Ishida (Shounen Maid, Wakaba*Girl) in July 2011. Kadokawa will publish the 30th volume on October 10. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a cumulative 10 million copies of its volumes in circulation. A manga adaptation of the Reihousha-hen (Visitors Arc) by Majiko! began in GFantasy magazine in December 2015 and concluded on June 18. Square Enix published the seventh and final volume on September 10. Madhouse adapted the novel into a 26-episode television anime in Spring 2014, covering the first seven volumes. The Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo anime film, produced by 8bit, opened in Japan in June 2017. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series in North America and released it on three Blu-ray volumes in 2015. The company also screened the Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo anime film in the United States theaters in July 2017 and released it on Blu-ray in July 2018. Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in 2015 and published the 12th volume on July 9. The 13th volume will ship on October 15. Well, that's certainly quite the surprise, but definitely one to welcome. Guess I'll need to watch the movie at some point before this, then. |

This was totally unexpected. But it's here after several years. I have a problem with this anime... I just, couldn't get into it. The only thing that captivated me wasn't even the story, it was Tatsuya's (Godsuya) character himself, he is a great protagonist imo. Will i watch it? Yeah, i still believe this show can catch my attention somehow, so i'm looking forward to it. |

Didn't see this coming one bit... I was just casually keeping up with the live broadcast thinking we'd maybe get a few (unknown) light novels green-lit for anime production but this totally shook me to my core. Fell off the chair for a second in fact and quickly jumped on to twitter and was enlightened to know that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. Anyway, that aside, super looking forward to this! It's been way too long since the 1st season (and even the movie) aired so it's a nice little welcome back! I know that the light novels are doing great for years now but nothing beats a confirmation~ Just noticed a cool trend, it took roughly 3 years between each entry of this series (excluding OVAs and the like). Usually, I'd talk about I hope for another season to come in 2023 but this is one of those cases where I just appreciate this ongoing more than anything. Thanks for the creds too! Edit: Looks like it'll air sometime after the Winter Season at the very least. https://twitter.com/RanobeSugoi/status/1180816092366807041?s=20 Edit (x2): Voice Actors from the Movie version will reprise their roles. https://twitter.com/mahouka_anime/status/1180822569114427392?s=20 |

To think I'll see the light of day to see the sequel to this, I was a different person back then. Now if only I can live through until Trinity Seven S2 gets announced, I'll be a happy man again. Edit: I await more of these; |

My gawd. After 5 freakin years they finally made a sequel. You took too damn long to come out. Well its not much compared to waiting for ten years for Index III, but yeah. I'm happy. Its good to be alive. |

holy shit that means that there will be much memes of the most boring guy in the world, however it is not that I really care about the series, this was hated by many people I have nothing against it, but I would like to refresh the memory of the people where it came from The real Gary Stu in the anime and not in the Isekai. |

The 26 episodes covered 6 volumes, which is quite a reasonable amount, seeing as single-cour adaptations often cover 3-4 volumes. I believe Re:Zero covered 9 volumes in its 25 episodes. That's a concerning amount imo xD Mahouka is pretty tame in comparison. |

Volume 5 isn't relevant really. It's basically the equivalent of a beach episode. As for volume 8, it's ideal to have in the story, as it details Tatsuya & Miyuki's relationship, why she trusts him explicitly, why expresses disdain towards the rest of her family etc. (Their past, basically) I feel the sole reason it won't be covered in this season is that it works best as a separate entry in the franchise. Likely a movie or 4 (approx.) episode OVA. It's not a necessity to understand or comprehend the upcoming Visitor Arc, but it's an arc that I feel should be adapted soon after. The Reminiscence Arc (volume 8) is synonymous to NGNL's 6th volume, in the sense that it's an ideal prequel to further the understanding of future arcs but isn't essential in the short-term. |

I would've said "meh" in the past, but with isekai shows clogging the Magic/Supernatural genre these past few years, I wouldn't mind giving this a chance. Just gotta steel myself for the incoming onslaught of "onii-sama" first. Overdosed on those while watching the first season lol. |

Woah I waited all this long for a season 2 yet after almost giving up hope this got announced. definitely hyped for this. the only dissapointment is the skip of vol 8. It's quite a crucial vol for the relationship of both Tatsuya and Miyuki and how they came to be the bro con that is known today. My hope is probably it will come in the OVA form, guess we'll see |

The exposition could've been discarded entirely, the side characters could've had better flare/characters if the author wanted to incorporate them more into the story.. there's a lot of things that could've been trimmed out to make the series a more enjoyable experience. Still gonna watch this sequel tho, I am a huge magic/harem/op protagonist junkie. |
