THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Not bad this episode. It had the usual tense vibe and we got to see some storytelling about Nagisa.

This show really puts the pressure on certain characters that I find admiring to watch. I'm rather curious about what's in store for Nagisa next though. Also, Ayano too and her future. I'm kinda impressed on how their coach is handling all of this honestly. Interesting to see Haneyama getting a decent amount of screen time.

This "mother"...the more screen time she has the more I wonder why Ayano doesn't flip at her and kicks her out of the grandpa's house. I don't know if there is a reason why she is doing this, aside from wanting to coach strong players; but I hope Ayano doesn't give in to her requests and just get help from her friends to deal with her problems.

Finally the guys got some spotlight too, but I feel like it was too little and too late. Well at least one got closure and the other one has more ambitions now.

Well, I guess this was the episode where we finally get some focus on the guys playing.

Hayama tried his best but couldn't win in the end. :(

Well, that was a savage confession by Ebina to Hayama at the end, first telling he she likes him and then telling him she's not sure anymore. Poor guy,, he was all flustered. xD

Ayano's supercilious demeanor continues, those were some pretty mean comments directed at Nagisa. :(
I'm glad Nagisa is gonna play in the finals despite her knee problems.

I was expecting a little more drama after Uchika's return but looks like Ayano just chose to ignore her until the post credit 'come with me' drop. I expect Ayano to refuse.

Probably the worst episode of the series so far. Not that it was a bad episode but just not that entertaining to me personally.

I want to say Ayano's provocations are just that so Nagisa will give her best, but Ayano's eyes are sharp and she's seen enough to know that Nagisa really stands no chance at beating her....THAT IS UNTIL BITCH MOMMA DROPS THAT NONSENSE AT THE END OF THE EPISODE.

Yeah so here's wear Ayano will struggle and then better herself with her friends in the club.

I see this anime finishing that was...Ayano enjoying her time with her teammates overall and not going with Bitch mom overseas.

IF they REALLY want to impress me Ayano would go Overseas by herself, or Beat her mother in a Match.

Notes:
(1) Continuing the romance of the background characters at this point of the series is incredibly forced. If they want us to care, they should've done this sooner or more naturally.
(2) Of course they prolonged the Ayano-Uchika conflict instead of addressing it now. It's for the ratings!
(3) All the characters are unlikable at this point that they I wish they all have knee problems. Even Ayano's grandparents!

I can finally close this chapter from my life. To the fans, if you find pleasure in this series, don't let this "hater" or other critics dissuade you. Like what you like. I'm out and returning to Haikyu.

What are you speaking about? Yes, the anime cut out most of the ship tease between anyone (Nagisa x Tachibana is main victim), but hints of this girl's interest in this guy were in the first episode and further.

There was less focus on Ayano and her mother than I thought there would be in this episode, but on the plus side, the guys got a good chunk of screentime with their struggle in the pre-lims.

Ebina's scene with Hayama in the park was oddly amusing, with her not really being sure abut her feelings about him. Hayama was flustered at first, but his response certainly put a smile back on Ebina's face. =)

Uchika dropped a bit of a bombshell at the end of the episode on Ayano, so I do look forward to seeing Ayano's answer to her mother's question. If I had to guess, I think she'll refuse the offer, for now.

I'm a bit disappointed at how a good chunk of this episode highlighted Ebina being romantically interested in Hayama, but then there was no payoff. It was basically just brushed aside.

For once we got to see the guys play, and even though they lost, they seem more motivated to improve themselves.

I expected more drama between Ayano and her mom in this episode, but really the only notable interaction between them was that bombshell at the end. I have a feeling that's going to mess up Ayano's ability to focus on playing.

Hanebado! disappoints me. Ayano's mom annoys me in every scene. Why she abandoned her daughter? -.- So, Ebina was in love with Hayama. Buu, I don't care.

The guys playing...I think that it was too late and was handled worse (and rushed) than the episode with Riko. The few worth scenes were Nagisa and her problems.

So disappointing. The characters are likable but handled so poorly. I was really happy that she confessed, but of course, they're gonna drag it out. Ayano's mom is heartless. How can you just leave your daughter behind and come back like nothing ever happened? It's sickening.

LOL! Yu confessed to her senpai but took back what she said in a matter of seconds. XD

Ayano has been provoking Nagisa to play with her this entire episode.
I hope (and I think it will happen) that Nagisa beats her.

"Best mom" sure feels like nothing happened when she left her daughter for years.
So since "best mom" confirms that her daughter is really good, she now wants to bring her?
If Ayano loses to Nagisa, will she continue to do so? I don't think so.

Inconsistency strikes in this show once again. You get set up for some big confrontation between Ayano and her mother and instead you get a half-baked side show focused on characters that really don't possess enough depth for you to really care about them. 3 episodes left to go in this series, and I have no hope for it at this point.
Don't believe the hype.

Ya know Nagisa should've punch Ayano in the face when she trash talked her.

Poor Hayama, he lost. and he's also stupid for not even saying if he likes Eina or not.

Too bad Hayama didn't win, I wanted him to since he worked so hard. As for Ayano, she's still playing the villain role and it pisses me off especially towards Nagisa. I hope Nagisa wipes the floor with her and bring her to the ground she's high on. As for her and her mother I think she should talk to her especially about Connie, and also I don't think she will leave with her. I'm sensing a lashing as a response to her suggestion.

The show looks like it's building up for Nagisa to beat Ayano, but I'm worried coz

They would have to go full Prince of Tennis logic for Nagisa to beat Ayano, it's possible to go that way, but I really hope not it'll ruin the writing and consistency of the show so far. Talent beat hard work, that much is a fact. Nagisa ain't even on Kaoruko or Connie's level, so I really hope they won't pull some hard work power BS on she's suddenly on Ayano's level.

I think, Nagisa will forfeit after making some sense into Ayano, talk no justsu basically while losing and ending up forfeiting, coz likes Nagisa said, whom she wants to beat isn't exactly Ayano but herself who gave up, hence it'll be like, well I gave up my best but I still didn't even came close to her level now time to forfeit coz ya know injury, and the last episode ends Ayano leaving with her mom to go overseas

Ayano comes home! Uchika greets her! Ayano is looking down! The screen is shaking! AYANO'S ABOUT TO EXPLODE! AAAND......nothing...

THERE IT IS AGAIN!

"Nagisa-chan doesn't stand against me now." This is Ayano saying "I don't give a damn about you or the finals. Now that my mama's here, when I'm through with you Nagisa, mama is next."

Nagisa approaches Ayano...NAGISA LOOKS MAD! IS SHE ABOUT TO SLAP AYANO? SHE'S ABOUT TO SLAP AYANO! YES! SHE'S ABOUT TO STRIKE! AAAND....nothing. "Aww, no fun," says Ayano. My thoughts exactly!

Uchika really likes this word...

Nobody cares about Isehara and Hayama. GET EM OUTTA HERE!

Waaaaaait....In a previous episode, Yuu left Hayama a Hocari Sweat drink on his bike. So when Yuu handed Hayama the drink personally, Hayama didn't say anything and didn't realize that it was her who left him the drink before? Hayama just drinks stuff that simply appeared on his bike? Come on! That was a perfect opportunity to build up this confession! But I guess they just threw this in here because whatever. Nobody cares about Hayama. GET HIM OUTTA HERE!

Me this entire episode:

"Once the tournament is over, why not leave Japan with me?"
Yes, yes. The power of motherly love and acceptance will bring Ayano back to her senses, and she will be able to play a fair game against Nagisa in the finals where she won't be playing to win, but playing to have fun instead. Sure Ayano will think about leaving Japan with Uchika, but she's probably going to pull that talk about having her friends support her in Japan and being there for her when her mother couldn't do what a mother was supposed to do, so she will stay. Maybe I'm wrong and she will go with her mom. But one thing needs to happen first...

The tension in this episode was overwhelming (between Ayano and Nagisa).
For a moment I thought that Ayano was going to explode in rage or crying, what i hated was Ushika's expression, how could she put that face ?, seriously she thought that her daughter would receive her with a hug and tears in her eyes.
This episode was focused on the guys on the team, it was a shame that the episode was so late, besides both boys lost, Hayama and Yui had their moment and this boy sabotaged his own confession, but at least they are not discouraged and they already plan to continue playing badminton at the university.
Ayano continues to pressure Nagisa, but the coach does not want her to play the game with Ayano, even though Nagisa finally decides to face her "invincible" opponent.
The last minutes bothered me, Ushika offers Ayano to go to Denmark with Connie (I think it's pretty obvious after the previous episode), I do not want Ushika to give Ayano false hopes, let's be honest, Ayano will be losing against Nagisa, but due to the injury in her knee it is likely that the coach stops the game and that would give the victory to Ayano and obviously Ushika will see this, along with Connie most likely, they will realize that Ayano is not good enough and they will go without her.

Utterly disappointing episode and again the show present its inconsistency problem. After last episode cliffhanger throwback, now this episode they didn't show much about Ayano aganist her mom development rather spend time with forgettable calculated side character drama. there has been much bigger drama conflicting yet adding other character' conflict. meh. Everything development here could been presented on last episode some way around. And I wonder how long we have to see Ayano's mom like this? I am assuming she has some sort of psychological problem orelse its not possible to act like nothing happen.

Oh and the cliffhanger this time was the same as last one. very uninteresting episode.

this ep was a trash ep imo as i don't care about the guys or that girl that think she liked the guy story.. really a waste of an ep and then on top of that to end the ep like that smh

hopefully Ayano doesn't just takes the bait and accepts cause then everything up to this point will be even more bs than it already is

but yeah sucks to have to wait for next ep after watching this trash ep the wait will be hell

while this trope has not shown up in anime, it has popped up on a few TV shows and made for TV films (i saw while I was growing up).
I am interested to see how the show handles it and puts their own spin on it.

Also hopefully by the end of the show, Ayano can put both parts of herself into one.

What a great show this is... I don’t care at all for the main characters. And when they finally introduce some humanity and personality through Ebina’s interest in Hayama, they all but squander it, two episodes later. This show should’ve been about them, in the first place. Not the rest of this trash.

Ayano's mom just fucking moving in and acting all normal like that really gets my blood boiling. It's so clear that Uchika is only taking an interest in Ayano for badminton. Like you can't just abandon your child because they lost a match and then the second they start getting good again (after fucking years) just drop in on their life and ask them to move across the globe. What a piece of shit mom.
