a very powerful and emotional episode, and a great conclusion to the series. Not sure where it's going to go in its second season, but i'm very excited for when it eventually airs. I'm going to give it a 8/10 or a 9/10, haven't decided yet ^^

It is probably too late for me to say it but, remember when Ray hummed that lullaby a few episodes ago? Episode 10 I think?

Foreshadowing y'all. Lol.
Even further, remember when Mama was shipping Conny in ep 1? She was singing the same lullaby.

so did we ever figure out what the numbers meant?

like who/what is 150146, or the other numbers?

cuz, spoilers?, in the manga the only digit numbers were just arbitrarily given to specifically gracefield plantation children, and i don't remember any of the children being specifically 150146. though i think one or two of the previous episodes did correlate with children that existed such as an episode being labeled 22194 after norman

edit: just read the wiki page, and the episode titles were simply the day that the episode was chronologically supposed to take in DDMMYY format.

pretty neat considering that episode 1 was 121045, so the whole series went from october to january. three months. that's a neat detail

WTH!! I really enjoyed the last ep of this season and the adaptation overall though I think there are some parts which I deem "off" for some reasons. Anyway, I'm still contemplating if I'll pick up the manga but since S2 was already, I think I can wait LOLhope so

A 10/10 for me

Wait, was Ray=Isabella's child also in the manga? If yes, I had totally forgotten or missed that.

Anyway, 7/10.

Yeah, after the anime finished airing I started reading the manga from chapter 37 and up and that scene with Ray being Isabella's child is in chapter 37.

Such an amazing episode, as always!
Emma thought about the next generation of kids and how it would be impossible for them to escape with the babies, so she tells Phill what's going on in the house (he already knew that, of course, it's Phill), so that, when the time comes, the younger generation can escape from the house too! That's actually a pretty smart and wise move! And now we know why they give so much importance to Phill.
The execution of the plan to escape was perfect, everything went as it should be, and I was really blown away in all the tactics they use, and how much time they were preparing for the escape. I wasn't expecting for the Mama to climb the wall too, and that final confront between her and Emma was just... wow, I couldn't ask for more. I also really liked the development that Ray suffered, he really was beaten by Norman.
It was interesting to see Mama's past, and how se also suffered from the same that Emma suffered, and that she also tried to escape (that was revealed in episode 8, I believe, but it was interesting to see nonetheless), but failed. I have to admit Mama was a great "Villain", and I can understand her side, she just wanted to survive above all things. When she appeared pregnant and singing that song, I was like: "Wait, do I know this song? Well, Ray said that he remembered that his mother sang him a melody while he was still in her belly, but Isabella can't be is mother, right?", seconds later, I remembered how in this anime everything can happen. I just wonder if she never felt bad doing the things that she was doing to her own son, and also if she spared Ray for shipping that much time because he was her son. That final scene with Isabella accepting her defeat, and becoming happy for her son and his friends for escaping, was so moving. She even eliminated the evidences that were against them (the strings).
THEY DID IT, THEY'RE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL! The final scene of the episode was just so hopeful and beautiful, a great way of ending the series!

Overall, I have to say I'm very suprised with this anime, I never thought I would love it so much! Almost everything was on point. The animation is great (although, at first, the characters designs were a bit strange for me, but now I love them), the characters are really amusing, the soundtrack is just perfect (those endings killed me, and the fact that the opening was foreshadowing the house's fire was so intelligent, and the tracks used in the every scene were very suitable for its theme), the plot is so original and well developed! CloverWorks did an amazing job with this anime, they are doing history with The Promised Neverland!
I give this anime a solid 10/10, and it entered in my top 5 favourite anime, and is, for me, the best anime of the Winter season, a really great candidate for Anime of the Year!
I also want to say that I don't understand how many people are giving so low scores just because it didn't adapted everything from the manga. Adapting everything from the manga is impossible, I think that the directors did an amaizing job with the selection of the information needed, I'm not a manga reader, but I felt very satisfied watching this anime (has you may already have noticed). I can even say that I don't agree with "only the 1st and the last 2 episodes were good", since I always felt the anime was getting better episode after episode (in fact, I just became a massive fan of the anime at the end of episode 4 with the "So, you're the traitor Ray" scene, and I never found the 1st episode as good as so many people say, comparing with the next episodes), but that's only my opinion. But I'm really happy with the MAL Score this anime has, it's really fair (comparing to other anime's MAL scores) and with the popularity this anime has achieved. It's unfair all the negative reviews this anime is receiving, but haters gonna hate, so we, the fans, have to support this anime how much we can!

To finish, I'm very glad that they revealed the 2nd season of The Promised Neverland, I'm very hyped! Although many people are saying the next arcs are not as good as this one, I still think I'll find the 2nd season as good as the first one (people tend to dislike the series after the first arcs, for example, many people think that Attack on Titan lost his way after season 1, just because they were developing the plot, but I must say that Attack on Titan just keeps on getting better)!

Last episode made me increase my score from 7 to 8. Even tho I'm not a manga reader, I was never impressed with the first episode's 'plot twist' and the whole series until episode 12. I thought the author doesn't have balls to change the direction of the show and will go repeating [kids brainstorming ideas to escape] ---> [Isabella came and say "Hold my beer" to their face] until the end. Now they proved me wrong and the show will be entirely new (I hope) from S2 onward. I'm also kinda interested in the manga but it still doesn't end and I heard it deteriorated quality-wise like any long-running shounen manga's fate so I'll just wait S2 til 2020.

Good final episode. Emotional end with the past of Mama the music. Still cant decide rather to like or to hate Mama. Im sure there is still something shes not telling anyone. And Norman cant be dead. Im not sure what happened, but.... well maybe there will be timeskips and somewhen Emma and Ray meet Norman again?

Cant categorize the series yet: are there going to be character changes like ... for example Norman gonna be and evil guy when they probably meet again? Will there be a time skip and the story changes? I hope I will find all of that out at season 2.

Ray changed. Good to see him now being positiv again. Emma is strong willed; I like her. Mama gave up and wished them the very best.

Ray being Mamas kid is an awesome idea! That was so good. Wondering if Mama would have delivered her very own son to these alien creatures.

Cant decide yet if I want to give 08 or 09 /10. Overall it was really good and the ending was awesome. But there have been some slow episodes and I kinda disliked a few cliffhangers cause they were solved so easily in just a few seconds during the beginning of the next episode.

Probably going to be 09/10.
My only regret is having regrets!

If this escape happened in real life, most of the kids would just crushed themselves to death at the cliff. The show itself was like the love child of Prison Break and Lost.

-THE MAD LADS AND LASSES DID IT. THEY ESCAPED, AND OVER THE CLIFF EVEN! What an ending!

-That final staredown between Emma and Isabella before Emma escaped in victory was glorious. "It's over. You've lost. Victory is ours. F*** you.". Emma was brilliant in how she took over in Norman's stead and went about executing his plans from the day he was shipped. Ray lost out here. She was initially portrayed as the most emotional, idealistic, and reactionary of the three. But ultimately, she illustrated that those don't have to be things that hinder one's capabilities or awareness of reality, and did so in a magnificent fashion.

-Ray's stunned expression at their plot to cross (and the whole escape for that matter) was reflective of my reaction (and probably many other viewers) to it as well, and that was clearly intentional. It was nice to see him humbled and admit his defeat, and realize how optimism and idealism can be a catalyst toward finding a better idea or solution, rather than just simply surrendering at the beginning because "obviously" it wouldn't be possible. One can acknowledge reality, but work toward an ideal. The end result would have a nonzero possibility of being a better outcome.

-I don't believe our MVP Norman is dead.

-Phil will be a new gen Norman/Emma/Ray, and certainly deserved. Incredibly intelligent, and somehow found himself on-scene during many key moments. Coincidence? Clearly we know they weren't. What a hero to stay behind for the sake of the younger ones. Isabella knows he's in on it after she discovered he intentionally led her into the group of younger children, and even just flat out told him the outcome of the older children's escape attempt, so it'll be an interesting dynamic.

-Isabella had no choice other than to submit to her situation and embrace it, if she were to "live". However, seeing these children accomplish what she herself could not do all those years ago must have really been something, and hence why she was glad and smiling for them, a happiness originating from a sentiment that she had to bury deep in her subconsciousness due to her being a prisoner and having to accept her fate. I'm conflicted as to how I should feel about her, since on the one hand she's a piece of shit for just how devious she could be and how she relished it, but on the other hand it was either do her job well or join the rest of the unfortunate humans.

-This plant has an abundance of prodigies and abnormally intelligent children that it makes things too convenient, but after all some miracles require a dream team, and in this case there was one.

This show was a fantastic cat and mouse game, a battle of wits, although in this case the advantage was with the mouse as the cat found it more desirable to contain than kill, so the kids could always bide their time and Isabella couldn't simply end them immediately since she wanted to cultivate their quality. Most episodes were thrilling and/or intriguing with tension, the predictability became quite muddy in some key instances which lent greater suspense, and there was very little time wasted on bogging down with useless fluff. It's a serious and captivating show that can be recommended to non-anime watchers without any of the kind of anime tropes that would be unpalatable to such an audience getting in the way. There are some flaws though, in regards to believability in some of the plot points and circumstances (even with the acceptance of the premise that these kids are all geniuses), pacing, and directing at times, but overall they're minor compared to what it had to offer.

Absolutely looking forward to the next season.

i think the reason people give low scores is just cuz they have other score systems
the only thing missing in this adaption was internal monologue tbh, and they should have added that, they could have added it because they showed these scenes anyway just with silence which was fucking stupid

but yeah its also one of my top 5 , manga at least, cuz its hard to rate 13 episodes

It was good... but Isabella's flashback was not at all compelling. It felt like they rushed that in last minute to get us to sympathize with her, but I still don't care about her, or that she's Ray's mother.

Glad they made it out, though... of course I'm sure that's only the start of their troubles.

Binged through the show and it was just fantastic. As just it's own show, I was drawn in the entire time, the tension and mystery was just so well handled all the way down to the big ending of it all and how cathartic it was after everything they went through. Gonna be a hell of a wait for the second season.

the only thing missing in this adaption was internal monologue tbh, and they should have added that, they could have added it because they showed these scenes anyway just with silence which was fucking stupid

but yeah its also one of my top 5 , manga at least, cuz its hard to rate 13 episodes

I'm also kinda interested in the manga but it still doesn't end and I heard it deteriorated quality-wise like any long-running shounen manga's fate so I'll just wait S2 til 2020.

quality did not deteriorate in the least, in my opinion
i think the manga ratings/reviews speak for themselves
personally i also prefer the third arc over the first and the 2nd mini arc
but i think waiting for s2 is a wise choice as the impact will be much greater for you

This anime is really good!
Yes, you must be right, some people have other rating systems and other tastes too. But I think the score it has is really fair, so I think the low scores are a minority.
It's true that sometimes they were lazy with the monologues, like when Ray said he remembered everything since he was inside his mother belly, they could have used some "footage" to ilustrate the situation, but nothing to big to worry about. However, it would be cool if they added more monologues, because, from what I seen, the manga has a lot of that, and they're really important, but everything can't be adapted! Nonetheless, I still think they did a fantastic job with this anime! Some things just can't be adapted due to how few episodes there are!

This shit was dialogue driven, like jojos battling but with mindfucked strategys for children.

I give it 9 of 10 just because Isabella was my favorite character and received some love.

Also, im not the only one that thinks the "moms" can be shotaconers right?
Am im the only pervert who wants to see this setting on a Hentai?

perfection!
What a fitting end for S1! they really nailed it.
again, ignore those manga reader critics!
OST is godly! Obata, Takahiro you're now on my watchlist on whatever music you produce on the industry.
5/5.
9/10.

I enjoyed this anime. I rushed it in a couple of days. Ive seen some not so good reviews that didnt seemed fair to me but whatever. i could do some nitpicking yes but overall it was a good anime and the ending was decent as well. i wouldnt mind this ending if there were no more seasons but since there will be i just hope its at least as good as this one.

Look, I know Isabella ended up letting them all go but can we not forget that she thought her biological son was burning in a fire and all she thought about was SAVING HIS BRAIN TO FEED TO THE DEMONS?

I liked her little backstory and everything, and all of her actions make sense, but she's in no way redeemable.

Anyway this was a great finale. I really do love this series. I can't wait for a second season, but I'll probably have to pick up the manga soon because that was one hell of a cliffhanger. I'm also itching to find out what actually happened to Norman. He obviously not dead, and its not been revealed whether there's a male equivalent of the "Moms" in the series. I'm just so curious!

So, if removing my bitterness of last episode I enjoyed this one. I would have enjoyed it far more if it was the escape that was led up to or if we saw everything with the more inconsequential stuff being left out. The rock throw rope, the clothes hanger zipline, and the Phil being raised as Ray #2 was pretty awesome stuff. And I felt a sense of tension when Isabella was running to them on the wall even though I knew she would smile at their escape no matter what.

A nitpick for me would be that I had already extracted that Isabella was once an Emma who wanted to escape but couldn't and represents giving up and acceptance. Where Emma goes "we will make the world a place for humans", Isabella goes "I will give my sweet babies as good of a life as they can have in this world", even though I assume she was and has always been a fighter on the inside. Scenes like her knowing how Emma felt about becoming a mom affected me far more than anything Isabella did this episode due to the more subtle realization of it. So, to see what I mostly already knew, she was once a positive little girl with her own Norman, she saw him die and became a mom literally and figuratively, probably breeded in an awful way, and then had to raise that child to be eaten, was too much. I didn't need to know all the awful things she had occur, everything that happened to her was inferable, all her friends did die, and she gave up, and she was forced to accept the situation. I liked leaving it at that or I would have liked a more subtle exploration of those things instead of getting it all at once in a flashback at the very end.

Plus, why did they put a mom in charge of growing her own boy to be eaten? School teachers here cannot even teach their own kid due to bias. Lol... I would have just preferred not to get that plot twist. It felt artificial to me. Funny enough I made up that I saw a spoiler online and told my friends "ISABELLA IS RAYS MOM" before watching it because it was the most cliche spoiler I could think of and it actually happened out of nowhere. That gave me a good chuckle.

Overall, I found the suspense awesome, and I loved the slow world building where we got little pieces of information about the plant and how the world works. I loved being a part of the plan to escape, I actually argued against Digibro and said in this mystery story it isn't a simple carrot and stick game of keeping information we should otherwise know out of our face to keep us coming back. "We too are like the kids trying to escape" I said. Then last episode made fun of me for thinking such a thing and threw everything about the plot I liked out of the way giving me a harsh reality of why a mystery anime like this is reliant on leading up to satisfying conclusions.

I would be okay with secretive, behind the scenes plot movement if I cared more about the characters but after episode 3 I felt they had their gimmicks but were relegated to plot devices who weren't really explored on the basis of who they were as people anymore. Due to this I always liked the main cast but I found them boring, they didn't make me think about them, or why they did what they did, they didn't make me interested to pursue their idiosyncrasies and personalities past what we already knew. Don is the worst example in my opinion as I'd argue he wasn't just unexplored but flawed in his quick acceptance of Conny's death and their situation before being relegated into the background. His arc paired with his personality could have made him a more likable character than even the main three in my opinion.

There's two ways I could have liked this anime more.

1. If it focused on being a "how to escape" mystery/horror anime where we did get all of the clues along the way and were a part in the escape without stuff like last episode occurring.

2. If instead it cared more about showing off the characters as people with different interests, nuanced personalities, different motivations, bigger strengths and weaknesses. We did get some of this near the end and in my opinion in episode 3 but for the most part I would have preferred if this stuff was far more explored than it was. Like I said, I liked them, but liking them on a surface level isn't enough to carry the anime through its carrot and stick mystery/horror story which pulls the rug from under our feet at the end.

5/10, the characters didn't interest me enough and the plot felt like it betrayed me, lol! I enjoyed the plot before I realized I had been tricked and it had some great moments, this episode was a blast and Emma charging down Norman on her crutches was powerful. Overall all the sequences after the leg break up until the reveal in episode 11 were awesome due to me being engaged with the characters for one of the first times since Ray initially joining up with Emma and Norman. But that isn't enough for me to place it higher than 5 because, a 6 to me as an individual means it did more for me than allowing me to like it when it was on screen, it would mean I could reflect on truly loving certain qualities of it after I'm already done with it. In fact, when reflecting on this I'll be more likely to think about how I almost loved it but came out very disappointed.
I disagree with this part: " I liked out of the way giving me a harsh reality of why a mystery anime like this is reliant on leading up to satisfying conclusions." It's a bad mystery if like Digi said they just fed you information and gave you a conclusion. I don't think mysteries are reliant on their conclusions, more so their build up to said conclusion. If you like mysteries than you like figuring stuff out, not necessarily being right(which is what the conclusion would provide).

I'm giving it a 6/10 though, mainly because that means I found it enjoyable and effective at bringing out emotions. As a thriller Neverland is great. This episode highlighted that with tension when a couple of children were afraid to go and Isabella right on their trail. It was amazing until Emma and Isabella just stared at each other. I kept saying "what are you doing Emma? Go! Come on, she's gonna catch you!" to the screen. Mainly because it was so out of character for her to just stand and let them leave. She just called security to make sure they weren't able to leave saying with a grin "try to escape now :)". No idea what changed about her character so quickly. We already understood why she took up being a mother. She full-heartedly believes she was giving them the best life she could, so why let Emma escape?

Really agree with this comment here: "I liked leaving it at that or I would have liked a more subtle exploration of those things instead of getting it all at once in a flashback at the very end." Her speech to Emma about how it's best to just give up did a lot more for her character than the flashback of things I assumed.

SEASON TWO HYPEEEEEEE

Watching the kids zip-line from the wall over the cliff to the other side was a very exhilarating sight and I can't help but celebrate as each of them descends to safety. The younger kids weren't present during the escape because of Emma finally considering the reality of how impractical it would be to bring the little ones along so she decided to bestow the duty of protecting them to Phil who had on-point suspicions of the situation all this time.

It was unexpected of Isabella to act the way she did after she realized that her beloved merchandise escaped but she was a child like them who had hopes at one point of her life after all. The revelation that she was Ray's real mother was insane and her way of sending her children off by wishing for their safety made me teary-eyed despite her ruthless attitude throughout the series. I wonder who ended up impregnating Isabella though because it sure as hell wasn't Leslie.

They witnessed their first sunrise as a free people and it marks the beginning of their pilgrimage to the promised Neverland. They better make Norman proud and I'll probably find out soon because I can't wait for next year...

Personally, for me, I think the manga execute it better when it comes to creating the feeling of suspense and shock, while the anime is not bad by any means there were some artistic choices that I find it odd and didn't fit with what I had imagined. Undoubtedly, the first episode was the best. I feel like the anime was rushing too much that could have otherwise showcased how brilliant and smart the trio was with their plan to escape. It was disappointing to see that the battle of wits moments were toned down considerably in the anime compared to the manga. As for the Music, I thought it was fine but nothing memorable. Overall an 8/10 for me. :X

Isabella is hot when she took off hair band, definitely a MILF of my type.

It is so sad that during Isabella childhood, she is the only smartest and no one is there to support her like Normal or Ray, otherwise she definitely able to escape.

Didn't quite expect Ray to be Isabella's son because despite being mom-son relationship, Isabella only think of herself and never show sign of helping Ray at all.

Perhaps I'm not an expert, But I really loved this anime.

Let me start with my first impression, at the beginning for me had a feeling like watching an animated version of The Maze Runners movies.

But after that, the mental games started to arise and there was a point where I remembered my favorite anime of all times, Death Note, I never thought that someday I would compare any anime with Death Note, I've been searching for years an anime that could give me the vibes, the chills that Death Note gave me, and can't believe this kids got close enough to it.

The plots, the drama, the music, the hope, everything is awesome, a Master Piece a full 9.5/10 for me, can't believe I underestimated this anime, I'm in total awe right now.

For sure I will read the manga right now.

Hope to be alive at 2020 and watch the second season.
