Watching the beginning of the episode from Kakeru's POV and reading the last message his mom drafted that pushed him over the edge had me bawling. I understand how he felt and my heart hurts that there was a world that he died in. I really hope Naho can reach him this time. I know he's being an ass but he's doing that on purpose, trying to distance himself so that he doesn't hurt people anymore and so that they forget him if he kills himself.

As for everyone not understanding depression and wanting Kakeru to die, go fuck a cactus. Who cares who Naho ends up with!? I just want the kid to live.

This was a great adaptation of my favorite chapter from the manga. Kakeru's point of view and his depression leading to suicide is very realistic and coming from someone that is suffering from depression as well isn't far fetched whatsoever. The people bitching about his actions obviously don't understand what depression does to the mind.

Heartbreaking episode it was nice to see Kakeru's pov.
The black hole thing is the worst part of the story but I mean it's an anime, there's stupid explanations for things all the time so.
And wow I didn't know so many people hated Naho.

Kakeru really needs to die. He's just an asshole.

I hope the plot twist is that his fate can't be changed and he's destined to die no matter what. The only thing they can change is the circumstances of his death. Rather than him killing himself from depression, he dies from an accident or sickness but with no regrets or depression.

Also...I was glad they explained the time travel with the letters, but the whole dropping them into a "black hole" in the ocean is kind of bullshit. Find it hard to believe they all traveled to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and dropped their letters into the Bermuda Triangle with the hope that it would work. I would've preferred a little more fictional/supernatural method that was just more convenient and feasible.

Even with Kakeru's POV, some people still don't understand him, and that's just the way it is. Sometimes you really can't empathize with someone unless you've at least been in a similar situation. There are some who are sympathizing when finally hearing his thoughts, but they're only half way there.

I'm not saying Kakeru's actions aren't rude or whatever other negative words people describe him as, but honestly it just doesn't work to use such words to describe him because of the state of mind he's in. The fact of the matter is, he's not normal, he doesn't bounce back like normal people do. He's trapped in his own mind thinking he's worthless, and he feels guilt not only for his mother's death, but for whenever he lashes out on people. And yeah, from an outsider's perspective, Kakeru is not such a great person, but we probably have friends that annoy us once in awhile too. Viewers should be reminded that it doesn't matter what kind of person Kakeru is, the people around him, the five people who befriended him on his first day of transferring schools, care about him. That's why this show exists, because there are people who want to save him, people who will have regrets in the future if they don't save end up saving him. The few who commented that Kakeru should just die, I have to say, this show must've been a great waste of time. It's fine if some can't fully understand how it feels like to be depressed and/or not often having thoughts about how living is painful, but I hope people can try to at least understand or put themselves in the shoes of the group of friends, why they want to save their friend. Not pointing any fingers btw, just saying in general after observing comments from both the series' manga and anime sub-forum.

-------------------------------

I finished reading the manga a week or two ago, and Kakeru's POV still had me crying endlessly. His thoughts are so relatable that it does hurt to see it again. No it's not like he's had the worst childhood or backstory as other characters or real life people have had, but not everyone has the same mental strength to cope with whatever experiences they've had. Imo, I think orange does a great job of portraying a person with depression, although it's not something every viewer may realize or recognize. It was also sad seeing the group of five in the future, Kakeru's death had a lot of impact on the friendship of the group. They're still friends of course, but it was never the same. And the regret they felt after learning about what Kakeru had gotten through and them not knowing despite being Kakeru's friends, it's definitely understandable why they felt so strongly and hopeful for any possibility of saving Kakeru, even if they can't change anything in their own timeline. It's honestly also probably a way for them to cope and feel better, given that there's no way they'd know if 1) the letters actually time traveled 2) their past selves in a parallel world received the letters 3) if their past selves were able to save Kakeru.

I agree with scoffing at the Bermuda Triangle explanation for the time travel letters, but eh, the story is so much more than that.

It was the most emotional episode yet for me ;_;
The whole first half from Kakeru's POV was nice. At least we got an insight to his thought process. The segment where he read his mother's text was emotional... All thanks to the music.

I enjoyed the Kakeru chapter but in second half he started pissing me off.

I think the rating for an anime such as Orange depends entirely on how it ends, at least for me.

I wouldn't get my hope up guys, from what I understand it'll be a regular episode + seiyuu talk or something like that.

1-Hour Special will feature the 13th and final anime episode itself, followed by a talk program segment starring the six main cast members.

According to ANN.

I love how this episode showed significant events from Kakeru's perspective. Last episode I was thinking he was kind of acting like a jerk but now It's clear that his actions are due to his extreme sadness and grief. Also I teared up when Kakeru saw what his mother wrote to him...It's something I can't even imagine having to go through. This show is beautiful in every sense of the word.

God Kakeru's mail to his mom really was rude, he used very strong wording "jyama sun na yo!/don't disturb me!" I can see why he regrets it so much. Tho ye his mom was not completely right either, throwing away his shows and bag like that. Sure, she must have been suffering from some anxiety herself, but I can see why Kakeru thought she was annoying.

Hagita wearing Azu's skirt. lmao. This guy is so chill.

Kakeru in that alternative timeline. Man, this episode was adapted well.
Okay, this makes me appreciate that everyone is working hard to save Kakeru in the new timeline (despite their efforts being clumsy. tho it being clumsy makes sense)

So Kakeru's mom was always thinking about him but didn't communicate enough...

I'm saying this now, but I really like Naho's handwriting.

Dat engrish made my day "What do humans enjoy about dogs?" lmao

The animation and art this episode was pretty great.
Hagita's thinking is right. It couldn't be helped, in short.

How the hell did they send the letters anyway? Through a ship? Did they travel as nearby to Bermuda triangle as they could to throw away the letters? What.
For all we know, the current timeline might just be Naho's delusions and not really happening. That would make for a more messed up ending.

Still a good episode even though if felt disturbingly like a clip show for the majority of it.

The draft text message was the clincher and I suppose it does tie things together seeing their black hole plan.

You know, I found the episode to be adequate. I found Mirai Kakeru segment to be sad, heartbreaking and all, but I found the rest of the episode to be... not what I wanted.

I wanted this series to be some sort of magical realism, as "we send the letters through time, don't worry about it". Giving an explanation for the magic just kills the series for me to a certain extent. "Oh, it was a black hole somewhere in the world, and we guys send the letters through there". That just raises more questions!

Way to kill a series magical premise.

and this shows rating just crashed and burned over the Bermuda Triangle XD XD XD

Somethings are just better left unsaid lol. Put this episode off cause haven't enjoyed this show as much as the beginning. I'll give the studio credit the animation was much better in this episode than the last few. I get Kakru's perspective but really your still being an ass to Naho come on man......

the first half of the episode was so unexpectedly beautiful. I'd always been sure that Kakeru's mom was a manipulative insane person but the flashback revealed the truth.. uh oh. and I began to understand Kakeru's feelings. the Bermuda Triangle theory seemed silly but this whole letters thing is something like a metaphor to me so I don't have a problem with that. looking forward to seeing what happens in the last ep

A black hole. The author seriously tries to explain away the time-traveling letters with a 'black hole on earth' theory?! Lame -_-
ummyeah said:
I feel like some explanation for how they sent back the letters is better than no explanation.

I'm the exact opposite. If the explanation is too dubious/implausible, it kinda takes away from my enjoyment of the story as a whole.

I would have preferred it if it was left a mystery. Or maybe add a little bit of fantasy element to it without trying to explain too much.

After following this series, we witness how depression could kill anyone.
I can feel how heavy the first half of the episode to see what really happened when those future-older-self letters didn't intervene the past.

I hold up my tears as tight as possible, but I got teary eyed on the moment when Kakeru go out the night... and died.

Its full of genuine tragedy for him not to feel of being loved, treasured, and even cared.

I guess its a lesson for us that we need to show love and affection to other people, (whether they are your sibling, friends, relatives, co-workers, etc.) who are going through hard-times, regardless of anything of who they are as a person.

The black-hole and Bermuda Triangle thingy really ruined the whole mood of this episode...

Also, for a moment I thought that after reading his mom's final message, he realized how dumb a suicide would be, that he wanted to cycle to Naho and apologize... and that the crash was an accident after all - which would've been a hilarious twist.

I had the same thought. But, watching the episode again, it wasn't so clear to me if he did intentionally or if it was just accident. To behonest, it looked more like an accident, and it also makes sense. He sees that his mom did indeed wrote him back, and then he wants to apologize to Naho, but crashes with a car. Are you really sure it is intentional?

It is pretty surprising that the anime doesn't feel rushed. When I first heard that it's going to be only 13 eps long I was pretty disappointed, but it looks like it's going to end well.

Loved Kakeru's point of view, from the other timeline (Or whatever it was), you could feel the difference.
The art is still cringe-worthy at times, I just hope that they saved their best for last :)

The thing I don't get is..even if the letters were sent back in the past and the group manages to save kakeru..change the future and prevent his tragedy faith..even if this happens it still won't affect their world right?...I mean the only way I can imagine it is like even if the letters traveled..they obviously traveled in a parallel world..which is related with the world that they 10 year future selves live..but even if they do this..it still kakeru won't come randomly one day when they wake up right?,..kakeru will be saved..but he will exist in the parallel world..which they can't get into..so all this is effortless..kakeru can't be saved..and even if they save him..he can't be with them in the actual world

Was starting to get really annoyed by Naho and her friends. There are times when you REALLY just need to talk about something, or just have some kind of outlet. F*** the way they were all just "helpless" after all those times where they were hell-bent about saving him. It feels hella forced for me.

And then they try to LOGICALLY explain something that's illogical - time travel - using BLACK HOLES?! COME ON MAN my rating of this show was kinda going down from 9 to 8 on ep 11 and the it definitely came down with the sci-fi stuff. You don't just add that kind of thing outta nowhere... It broke the immersion pretty damn quickly.

I would do without this "recap" or summary episode. It's not like everything has to be spoonfeded to viewers for them to understand it..
And everything in this episode was just obvious from previous series, it was not even needed to tell it explicity.

Quite contrary, in fact, they ruined the carefully built-up atmosphere with it. Not to mention that if writer wants us to care about Kakeru she should know better not to portray him as a real dick in recent episodes. And their timetravel theory involving blackholes was just a joke, it would be a better if they didn't even talk about it, it's not like it's focus of this series anyway.

So for sake of this series, better disregard this episode, and let's hope the final one would make up for it.

The first half of this episode was extremely emotional. Totally put me in a very sad and depressed mood after watching. Poor Kakeru. I have a lot empathy for him. I can only imagine how crushed he was after reading those drafts in his mother's phone. After reading such a thing, I probably would have killed myself too. Just a sad situation all around. I wish his mother hadn't killed herself.

Anyway, I always knew the Bermuda Triangle was connected to time travel in some way. Nice of Orange to confirm it.

Well not too shabby, other than that I do hope we get to see it actually in action but at least a small part of that plot got revealed! That said the first part of this episode sure was quite sad to see the whole picture what actually happened!
