So many trolls in this thread. -_

And BTW it shouldn't be not "alternative setting" but "same setting". The story takes place after S1 in the same world. Just the characters are new.

Good news. I watched this show back in 2009 and honestly don't remember much of it, but this was one of titles that managed to introduce me to some well-known fantasy anime (Record of Lodoss War and Rune Soldier Louie being one of them) and my gateway to western anime fandom.

The story was pretty interesting, kinda giving Akatsuki no Yona/Twelve Kingdom vibe, which is imo, a good start (expansive fantasy worlds). It eventually becomes tactics related, which is sweet too, and then finally it goes sci-fi. It pulls together so many things I liked that it was pretty hard for me not to like it. I agree that in the end it's pretty forgettable, but i enjoyed it nonetheless. And among other things, Hakuoro and Erruru were my favourite characters from the series.

Looking forward to this

At first I was thinking I would watch this for sure, but then all these distinguished names in the staff made me have second thoughts. Haven't read the second VN, but I'd be surprised if the next stop isn't Trainwreck st.

So does anyone know if this is a sequel or an alternative setting in the same universe as the 1st game? They have the VN staff involved luckily as the VN only comes out just before the anime, which is quite weird, they must be quite confident of its success to do that. So might only know for sure after the 2nd game has been released. But seems weird that this will be a 2nd season due to how long ago the 1st game adaptation happened and having a different studio in charge (although change of studios does seem to happen often). Actually hoping it's an alt. setting.

Yeah, I'm assuming this is about 15 years to the future or however old Kuon is supposed to be. At least in the game story. The first anime doesn't quite fit.

Also this is the second part of trilogy: http://gematsu.com/2015/04/utawarerumono-3-scenario-already-in-production

Really looking forward to this, because the first story was great. Even if the anime version unnecessarily overused some cliches and had to rush things, especially towards the ending. White Fox doing it gives me hope the execution is better this time since Katanagatari is by far my favorite anime.

Pretty sure the ignorant part is the 'porn game' part, as in generalizing an entire medium based off a negative preconceived notion. But ok.

Yeah. Can someone clarify it?
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Great... so now, with the anime airing one or two weeks after the release of the game, I'll have the entire plot spoiled and ruined for me by other anime fans unless I pick up the game immediately on release. Obviously the timing makes great advertisement but it's less than ideal for my situation.

Why do people keep bringing this up? I read Akame ga Kill before the anime aired. I watched the anime. It's literally a 1:1 adaptation of the manga up till the last 4 episodes or so. They didn't even skimp out on the violence. I was actually surprised how well adapted it was until the anime only ending. Usually studios tend to skip, censor certain things or just flat out change stuff like the art style. White Fox did none of that, they did the source material justice. Except for the ending which was pretty shitty.

Don't blame the studio for the shit tier writing of the manga. AgK was half decent edgy (gore is so mature lel) manga prior to a certain event half way though the story. From that point onwards it went down hill faster than any manga I've read so far. A manga which had the potential to be decent, went straight to the shitter because of the focus on pointless waifu wars/pairings.

I think I can die happy... Loved the first season which I recently rewatched to build myself up for the hype of the 2nd game and season of Utawarerumono.

So from the game opening, Kurou and Benawi are obviously making an appearance, and they look older (Kurou looks much more mature and seems to be quite a force) so I'm guessing this will -somehow- be a sequel. The Hakuoro look-alike... I have no idea what his role is going to be. The other kid with Hakuoro's fan, I'm going to assume is either Oboro's kid, or Yuzuha's possibly. Then again, I'm probably wrong. The guy with the half-mask across his left eye... I nearly want to say that is Oboro... I have my suspicions but then again, I could be wrong.

I hope they -somehow- make this a sequel and not an alternate universe. Although I guess I probably won't complain either way. The first installment was pretty self contained and doesn't need anymore additions onto it.

Anyway, it is interesting to see an anime (2 cours nonetheless) be released shortly after the release of the game it is apparently based on. As much as I'm looking forward to this, I do have my reservations. So I probably won't be too surprised if it ends up flopping hard. As long as it "looks" good, I could find it in my heart to forgive it (hopefully).

The first series used to be rated above 8 on MAL; seems audiences' tastes towards it have soured somewhat since, but personally I loved it. Something about it just felt so... organic. The story, the setting, the characters, the writing; it just worked. Every detail felt essential, there's no messing around and Hakuoro's whole character arc is fascinating to me. No anime since has made me feel quite the same way Utawarerumono does.

For those reasons, I can't wait for the new series. I really enjoyed the OVAs that popped up a couple of years back, and the original specials are comedy gold. Hope the writing stays at the same level. I had no idea there even was another game. I played the first for like eight hours and barely got anywhere. It reminded me of Fire Emblem with a million times more dialogue.

Judging by the fact that the game is gonna be released for the ps4 and vita, its probably gonna be an all-age game. Pretty rare for an anime to be made before the VN gets released, I guess they must be pretty confident about it. Though the first game is one of Aquaplus' top titles, which itself is one the top visual novel companies. Anyways, as long as the anime is 3/4 as good as the first one, it will be better than 80% of the shameless pieces of shit harem and waifu series airing nowadays.

Judging by the fact that the VA for the MC is different, its probably not gonna be the same Godzilla man from the first game. I seriously hope he's a different guy, cuz it would be a complete turn-off if they brought him back just so he could fuck a new cast of animal girls; this "fuck everyone" aspect was one thing I absolutely couldn't stand about the first game.

I thought it might be a prequel sort of sequel but you can clearly see an older Benawi and Kurou.

It has less to do with tastes souring and more with the new audience having a different taste and the whole instant-gratification culture growing inside anime community. It has been a trend for last year or so for less frantic and less action-y shows to get lower ratings. If the show does not have the "hooks" of things exploding or stuff changing really fast, the audience loses interest.
A LOT of Utawarerumono is slice of life, worldbuilding and characters interacting with each other, as well as planning going on. A lot of it is perceived by modern audience as "filler".

Quality does not always equal rating and if this "sequel"(do we even know if its sequel yet?) is same in tone(I hope it is) then I don't expect it to get a higher rating either

Seems to be getting a lot of hate lol, some are from trolls so I'm not surprised.

I personally didn't enjoy the anime too much, but then again I didn't finish it since it seemed kind of slow but then I played the game and my opinion immediately changed. Some are making pretty ignorant claims against it just because the game it was based on had adult material. Some of the most popular series today are based off of adult games. Anyways, I'm more excited for the upcoming game but an adaptation might be nice too. IMO, I would rate the game on par, or even above, Fate, among other titles.

That'll be based on how much content they decide to cut out from the game to the anime adaptation. 26 episodes and low budget wasn't enough to fully adapt the first game to the anime, and I'm not sure how well this one will turn out.
