I'm doing that with One Piece right now. The Amazon Island arc, some moments in Inpel Down arc, parts of the Marineford arc and the flashback after the Marineford arc. I'll probably do the same with most of Fishman Island arc and until I fully catch up with the series. The pacing is too horrible to be watched at normal speed.

Also, the sounds aren't much of a problem. Mute it. Come to think of it, I should think of giving this a try with Bleach as well. I wanna finish that shit up quickly. My Hard Drive is running out of space.
You can always read the manga for a better pace. After a while after I got tired of doing that, I simply switched to the manga. It's much better, even without the voices and music.

Already have. I just need to catch up on the anime now, but the pace that most One Piece episodes goes by.... well, let's just say I've not seen much worse.

Check Attack on Titan for worse.

my record till now .. is 17 episode in 24 hour, but if i tried really hard i'm sure i can surpass the 20 episode barrier, specially with these long shounen animes like naruto and such.

I usually like absorbing my anime so I would never do this.

I mean we watch anime to enjoy it, so some people like watching faster, but In my opinion I think it's stupid.

I savor my anime

I have actually done that few times too. For example "Origins - Spirits Of The Past" for instance was so god damn awful that i had to start watching it with the 1.5-2x speed because it was just painful to watch.

You sir, are an idiot.

Fixed.

Exactly. It's bad no matter what speed you watch it at.

The only time I've really changed the speed is during OPs/EDs just to see how they'd sound sped up or slowed down. There were also times when I would mute the sound and play a different song and I'd adjust the speed a bit to try and sync it. Nothing special, but it was entertaining.

1.5x might work but 2x would probly be a bit too much =/

Having been away from regular anime viewing for about 3 years now, I need some way to catch up. From 2010-2012, there are at least 50 series each year that are worth watching. So that means I need to watch at least 150 series.

A lot of series are painfully slow and you can watch them at 2X without missing much. Another was ridiculously slow with its two beta main characters, so I wish I had watched that at 2X instead of 1X.

At 2X speed and skipping OP/EDs and next episode previews, you can go through a regular episode in about 10.5 minutes. If you spend all day (14 hours) watching anime, that means you can go through 80 episodes in a day instead of 40. I can only do this over the weekend. On weekdays I have 5 hours maximum, so at double speed I can plow through 28 episodes/day.

So at 300 episodes/week, it'll still take me nearly 4 months of nonstop watching to catch up on anime. By watching at double speed, I'll have gained 4 months of free time. And I'll take that any day. It takes some time getting used to at first, but eventually your brain adjusts and you cope with it.

One issue is that MPC-HC doesn't play accelerated video with normal pitch sound, so I'm forced to use VLC. But VLC can't force a default subtitle font with ASS subtitles. Gah! No player is perfect for this.

If you are just gonna speed through something just read the manga. With subs you can miss out on some visuals and shit, if you speed that up what's the fucking point in WATCHING it?

I cant stand long draggy anime episodes, so I just jump around with forward / skip button.

Probably should just read the manga, but I need the colour + voice.
Ive done that with one piece and probably with tons of super long shounen anime.

As for chipmunk voice, if your sound card have the software to change the pitch, you can use that with MPC easily.
Problem is you limited with certain speed + pitching combo only.

2x speed is just too fast.
I watched a Hikaru no Go special in 1.5 speed because it was too similar to an earlier episode.
It was okay for getting it out of the way, but I wouldn't do it again.

I only do it on occasions. When I don't wanna skip a scene entirely, but I still know it's gonna be stupid.

Doesn't mean I wanna drop the entire friggin series. Just skip past a part.

While still seeing what happens and facepalming.

Either that, or I don't wanna watch the wind blow and look at a nervous character sweat and shit for 5 slow minutes.[/color]

Gonna adapt this technique more often.

Reason:
1. I stockpiled a lot of anime batches
2. I tend to watch whole season rather than watching + waiting weekly.
3. There are couple anime that I watched with hindsight (watching while doing other stuff on my computer).
4. Anime pacing a bit slow without dramatic scene

Probably will just use technique with SOL anime because it usually slow pacing, less detail to focus on and sometimes is a bit dull on comedy part.

*I wanna try this technique with Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou next time.

I speed it up sometimes, with 150-200%, depending on how slow or boring the show is.
I do it when the show is dumb, and I really want it to be over, but won't drop it, because than I wouldn't have enough ground and insight to properly bash criticize it. Like Guilty Crown or SAO.

Also, you don't watch it in 2x speed, that's retarded. You use updated VLC at around 1.3 - 1.7x. VLC Doesn't fuck with the pitch of the sound as much as most other players. A PS3 works well too.

But yeah, other than GoT, the only things I've watched in increased speed are the last 30ish episode of YGO GX and a few episodes of Bleach.

Only thing that anime has over manga is the sound part (no, the animation isn't really relevant, as manga does a fairly good job in showing movements, and that showing key part of the movements rather than the whole thing has a lot of advantage as well, making fights more interesting imo).
Meaning, seiyuu and music.

If you watch at increased speed, you cannot enjoy any of the two. So where's the point? If you watch at increased speed, don't watch anime, read manga or novels then.
