She became more and more useless as the series went on, and only served to get mad at Touma by biting his head.

Hi! Yes there's a high chance you did (think I've posted it sometime ago). Basically what I mean is the way Naruto always tries to see himself and his former situation (being alone and all that) in everyone else. It was so obvious during one of the filler arcs when he and some others met a kid living in the forest named Yota (I think that was the name).

Anyways, I understand you're a pretty die hard fan of Naruto (been seeing you post stuff related to Naruto here and there) so I won't enter an argument whether the show as a whole is good or bad. It was just this one instance with Naruto and his ways of always trying to relate to the antagonist/whoever it is.

Chitanda Eru from Hyouka. She's okay at first. Nothing to be annoyed about. But that whole "kininarimasu" thing starts to get in my nerves as the series progresses.

Kirito from Sword Art Online

In this very first episode he made it clear he was not "the good guy" and that he will do anything to clear the game. Which got me hype for the show..

And then every episode after that he played the stereotypical selfless hero, kind of bummed me out.

I'm not looking for an argument, and certainly not a one about whether the show is good or bad from this. I just got curious on what you meant by that. I still don't really understand it, because for one, I don't watch filler and two, I don't think relating to the antagonist is what white knighting is.

Do you mean like he is an idealist or something?

isn't relating to your antagonist realistically the best way of solving your problems? especially after realizes that brute force begets Hate which begets more hate?

Well I might be using the words wrong here, but for me a white knight is someone who always tries to be the good guy and who also always tries to see the good in everything.

Did that clear things up a bit? If not, why not watch the filler arc I was talking about and see if that helped.

I guess I should give my two cents.

Asuna from Sword Art Online. She started out as an awesome strong female character, but then she became
in the second half of the show, which made her lame.

I tought this opinion was already the majority :o

Really? That's interesting considering most people I talk to who watch anime all love Asuna all the way through the show. I guess I'm only talking to bakas then ;)

this would probably be what first comes to mind for me as well

normally the combination of loli + tsundere + lead heroine is hard to fail with in my book but in this particular case it was just awful

Honestly, not really a huge change to a dislike but a few minor changes in the way I view the character, such as Euphemia from Geass, the more and more she was on the anime the more I seemed to not like her as much. Then like the normal Geass story
making them not bother me as much.

Aye, too many to name, but the most known ones I guess would be:

Misaka (Index/Railgun)

Mikasa (AoT)

Senjougahara (Monogatari)

Asuna (SAO) becus we all know why.

And certain characters that repeat certain lines that are annoying. Damn these are dumb reasons.

I want to say Asuna from SAO, but her problems can't really be blamed on her since the author just decided to force mediocrity on her.

Yura from Stella C3-bu: I didn't necessarily dislike her, but it became extremely uncomfortable to watch her as things progressed. I think it was because her development was handled so well that she became an infuriating character.

The first person to pop in my head was Naruto. My opinion of him is in the spoiler below. Some may not view him as such, but he got annoying. Some spoilers as well.

^May be a rant, but Naruto's character made me a little salty with all the decisions he made. Kinda lost respect for him throughout shippuden.

Liked Tatsuya Shiba from Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei because he was a charming motherfucker in the first couple episodes. He was the reason I wanted to keep watching the show. Now he's not quite so charming and he's a perfect piece of shit. Still watch the show just to see how bad it can get though.

Kurosaki Ichigo (Bleach)

Welcome to shounen!
To draw a relatable connection from your example to another anime: Naruto is pretty much God-level op if you compare him to Kakashi.

This one for me was easy, would have to be Lenalee from D. Gray-man. When she first started out I absolutely adored her. She fit right in with the male leads , held her own and seemed to be quite independent. I loved the fact that she seemed MORE than just everyone's love interest.... THEN...

Seriously, right?
She starts off on equal terms with the best of the best, then she becomes the oldest cliche in the book.
