Which type do you prefer?
1-MC who is weak at the beginning and becomes stronger throughout the series.
2-MC who is strong from the beginning.

I honestly prefer the second option, I'm tired of characters ranging from zero to hero🫤

I like watching a character evolve into their strength, super OP characters from the get aren't as easy to root for but work in some situations

So Underdog vs Chosen One?
I'll go with underdog simply because they are more interesting characters on average, unless they are handled badly. The chosen one can work but they need a foil to bring their entertaining qualities out of them, otherwise it is a pretty bland experience. The underdog on the other hand while also would benefit from a rival, they have a deeper more personal underlining story going on which adds a layer of interest for the viewer. You watch them because you want them to get better and succeed where as the chosen one you watch because he trolls everyone.

What is the worst however to me, is when an author tricks you into following a Chosen one while making you think that he is an underdog and handing him everything along the way cuz they are born special. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

Same
More series should take from stuff like Hunter x Hunter and have competant side characters who do not need the mc to solve every conflict.

I guess both, i don't mind the zero to hero jorney, but there's nothing wrong with being strong from the start too, i mean being strong doesn't mean there's no room for improvement

I prefer the ones who have something distinguishing and fascinating about their character, which makes them memorable as individuals, and are written in a consistent way.
The power level thing depends heavily on how it's integrated into a particular narrative, either option can be great fun or utter dogshit.

It is in some cases better to see them develop over time though i can see why the other kind is a thing it in part is easier to weite because you have to find a way to keep the main character both alive and not be taken on by anyone too strong too early unless you want them dead in a story. They dont necessarily have to be weak in normal human standards just average. Sometimes strong in the beginning works well too but it seems overdone. Also one that never really quit gets strong also works too if written properly for that.

I like both, but if I had to pick one, I prefer the one that's weak in the beginning but grew stronger over the story. I remember having the time of my life reading or watching shows like History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi and The Breaker. I enjoy following a character's journey to better themselves.

Everything can work if it's well executed, but I prefer the main character being strong early on so I can watch them do awesome stuff. I'm generally not a fan of seeing someone struggle and getting beaten up 80% of the time just so that the power-up feels more earned.

I absolutely love when the main character is already a veteran who spend enough time to refine and master their craft before the beginning of the story (not to say that they no longer have room to grow). That way it feels earned, because the character invested a lot of time struggling off-screen, and they can become something like a senior who can lead the other characters on.
Sometimes you also get this in the form of "MC is weak in the intro -> timeskip -> MC is strong"

A random list of main characters that are like that:
Kirito from Sword Art Online
Loid and Yor from Spy x Family
Goblin Slayer (from Goblin Slayer)
Anos Voldigoad from The Misfit of Demon King Academy
Shirayuki from Snow White with the Red Hair.
Gabimaru from Hell's Paradise
Misaka Mikoto from A Certain Scientific Railgun
Keyaru from Redo of Healer
Bocchi from Bocchi the Rock!
Lugh Tuatha Dé from The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat
Frieren (from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)
Chisato and Takina from Lycoris Recoil

Closer to #2 in that MC has some level of skill but not to some ridiculous extent. #1 got tiresome even when I was a kid, like all the battle shounen ran on the same principle of "zero to hero".

MC 2 variation, where they may be OP from the start but get plenty of room to develop, both physically and mentally. Opens up world-building options as well as makes fights more interesting, unpredictable, and creative, in lieu of providing thought-provoking storylines.

I like the ESPers/psychics main characters who tend to be absurdly overpowered from the start ie: misaka mikoto from a certain scientific railgun. She basically got the powers from both Thor and Magneto (and even more.. ) from ep 1.

Same and agreed as long they're aware of their strengths and weakness along with any consequence/risk of their actions in what ever environment/situation they may be in.

While I don't dislike characters who are strong right off the bat, watching a character grow is usually preferable. Training arcs are an effective way to fill time, but can also result in character growth.

I don't know, I kind of like both. If the journey is enjoyable MC1 could be better character, but MC2 can also have great moments where their strength is tested and they need to overcome new challenges. I guess MC2 a little bit more, just because it's cool to see how they pass on the torch, or change throughout the story.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

Calm, cool, and collected type. Doesn't matter if they're weak but I don't want them to be pretentious or overflowing with that main character aura. Not the hero type either but more like an anti-hero, but not excessive. While I dislike dark-haired MCs from every isekai anime.

If I were to sum up characters I love; it would be like Killua from Hunter x Hunter, Hei from Darker than Black, and Jonah from Jormungand. But that doesn't mean I only watch anime that have those types of characters.

i dont mind them being weak in the beginning but if theyre deku type of weak where the first half of the show is them crying and they lose every single fight then i get tired, but tbh that type of protag is rare to see.
i like guts type of characters where they were always technically stronger than everyone its just as the story progresses they get even stronger to find better ways to use their strength

MC 3

I prefer an mc to be intelligent and analytical/observative but not nerdy or IQ over 9000 but rather flawed, unforgiving, fighting inner demons because of his complex past that still haunts him, so he makes mistakes at the beginning but grows while he still loses over and over, sometimes just out of sheer bad luck; But sad circumstances lead the character to harden up (emotianally) and he learns that he has to destroy in order not to be destroyed and the already blurred line between "good" and "evil" becomes indistinct so he doesn't give a shit anymore and is finally free from the petty bourgeois moral values but he also loses his comfortable little normie life and in the end, when his last chance of turning back to his normal life appears in front of him, he decides to go his own way no matter what it costs. In the last scene of the show, he recognizes how he couldn't break the circle of violence and sadness even if he supposedly had the chance because his individual desire was stronger than his will to make peace with the world in favor of the collective.
