At least I feel slightly somewhat better from this episode slightly, unlike what happened 2 episodes ago which since then made me unhappy from what I built my hype for, for over 1 year with patience and stress.
I did not like the cutaways they did to say the least for this episode.

Won't try to critique that much since I know Toei went all out the last 2 episodes, but.. Yikes.

As Luffy proceeds to battle Kaidou, the inferno inside the Skull Dome seethes wildly, imperiling everybody show. In spite of the Straw Hats' brave endeavors, the fire demonstrates overpowering. Raizo, helped by Jinbe, executes his arrange by utilizing his jutsu to unleash water he had put away from Zunesha. This water is planning to quench the flares inundating the Dome.

Simultaneously, Yamato's caution stuns Momonosuke. With Kaidou drawing nearer his limits, the red hot clouds supporting Onigashima's height are breaking down quickly. Yamato inclinations Momonosuke to create strong fire clouds to supplant them, anticipating Onigashima's collision with the Bloom Capital. Whereas articulating those words, Luffy seizes a jolt of lightning, balanced to unleash its anger upon Kaidou. Watching this, Kaidou urges Luffy on, impelling him to dispatch the lightning-charged assault.

For a alter, the episode's highlight is evidently Raizo's bright arrange to control the seething flares debilitating to expend the collusion and all those interior the Arch. The disclosure of his water-storing jutsu, utilizing water gotten from Zunesha, infuses a reviving component of imagination into the story. This startling bend not as it were illustrates the vital profundity of the story but moreover exhibits the genius of the characters within the confront of apparently unfavorably odds.

Yamato's critical caution to Momonosuke includes another layer of complexity to the unfurling emergency. The looming collapse of the fire clouds supporting Onigashima's rise infuses a sense of criticalness and franticness into the story. The destiny of a complete city hangs within the adjust, emphasizing the tall stakes that have been building all through the circular segment. So many flashbacks this episode though, especially in the beginning of it. But this is One Piece we're talking about.

Alright episode. From here on out its really just a matter of waiting for the end of Wano in nine or ten episodes from now. No episode next week btw.

Oh wow, I'm almost speechless. I knew that this episode would suck since the Raizou stuff was awful in the manga too, but it felt so much worse here because of the crappy animation. Yes I know that Toei is incapable of giving us 3 straight episodes of amazing animation, but I thought they'd at least put some budget into the Luffy vs Kaido scenes. I was wrong. The whole sequence of Luffy getting hit by the club was embarrassing to look at, and none of the other scenes during the fight were any better; even Luffy grabbing lightning didn't feel that special because of how generic it looked. And don't get me started on how bad the pacing was overall. Jesus Christ, I almost feel bad for criticizing 1071 and 1072 now.

Disappointing episode can't lie. Pretty embarrassing that they used Giant Luffy in the recaps at the beginning of the episode, just to use it again in another scene...

My favorite thing was Luffy grabbing himself when Kaido almost hit him in the crotch. I thought that was funny.

Elephant bath ninja scroll + fishman jutsu was on point. I don't remember it in the manga.

Wasn't happy with the recap and flashbacks.

Starting to think that 1015 was just a fluke. This series gets a handful of episodes every one hundred with solid production and at the end of the day, they aren't any better than a key episode from a seasonal action title to begin with. Yet Toei couldn't do it for these G5 episodes, which just keep getting more and more embarrassing. Don't know what's worse, your typical low quality slop that's associated with this series or the studio's utter fumbling of the last two episodes (especially 1071, which has already gone down in infamy). I was about to say we're back to the usual slop, but Jesus Christ. I've never been a fan of the new powerup and subscribe to the belief that it's atrocious writing no better than a generic nekketsu asspull powerup, if not arguably worse because of the implications that it carries; but Toei has turned it and Luffy into a clown fiesta. Bravo lmao. Iirc, that leak from Aug 6 that rated 1072 a 10/10 (lol) gave this one a 6/10, so you just know how bad it actually is.

Looking forward to begrudgingly dropping this anime in the next couple of episodes when this disgustingly bloated arc is finally put to an end. I'll still stomach though the manga even though I can't stand the direction it's gone in for a long time, just because I've already invested so much time into it.

bit of an underwhelming episode since most of us are here for gear 5 but this was admittedly the weakest chapter in all this, still good to see sanji. i don't mind em taking it easy for this one since 1071 and 1072 have already been two consecutive 10/10s and we'll see what comes of the later episodes.
luffy still pulling crazy shit, out here casually grabbing lightning bolts like it's nothing.

luffy vs kaido recap next week though, that was expected but i didn't expect it to happen in between gear 5 episodes.

Well after consecutive strong episodes in 1071 and 1072, this one will definitely feel underwhelming (and idgaf what anyone here who just constantly bitches has to say, the previous 2 episodes were fire). Not much focus on Luffy vs. Kaido this time around, instead we mostly caught up with everyone else and what they're up to, along with seeing Raizo and Jinbei put out the fire. Honestly not much else to say about the episode. Sucks that there's another recap next week.

Luffy is "not" messing around, Jinbe and Raizo are the GOATS and the flashback to Zou was really nice. Didnt really mind the scenes that were not focused on Gear 5 as its good to see other things going on in the story, lets just hope it is not like the katakuri fight cause that was unbearable. hopefully new OP next episode, recap next week kinda ruins the hype but it is what it is.

Recaps and heavily reused scenes never feel good. With the introduction to Gear 5 in the last two episodes, however, it was foreseeable that TOEI would now slow down a bit again.

Nevertheless, I still have a ton of fun with Gear 5 Luffy, even if unfortunately there was hardly anything to see of it or the fight against Kaido in general in this episode.

The fire is slowly but surely making the situation in Onigashima dangerous for everyone involved. Escape seems utterly impossible, no matter which direction or floor you try.
After Raizo talked about being able to control or even put out the fire, I was definitely curious to see how this would happen. That he could store such a gigantic amount of water in his ninjutsu role was more than surprising and in combination with Jimbei this water was even given a certain control. So there's one less problem to worry about.
What is of even greater concern, however, is the fact that, as Yamato alluded to, Kaido is becoming weaker and weaker, and his flame clouds will soon be unable to support Onigashima, and only Momo's own flame clouds would be able to sustain Onigashima.

Luffy casually grabbing lightning to use it against Kaido is kinda insane. Another testament to how ridiculous Gear 5 truly is. While I don't think this will end the fight, I'm curious to see how Kaido responds.

Looks like we'll be taking a break next week with a recap only episode with Bartholomeo.

This was one of those awkward transition chapters in the manga where readers felt like Oda had to interrupt the gear 5 to resolve a certain plot thread about the burning onigashima. Though this was mainly 100% oda, the only thing TOEI added was a few little flashback scenes. I remember when this chapter was released, and everyone was complaining about it lol. Though we did think Luffy grabbing lightning was unexpected.

1073 is going to be a really good one though.

Kaido mentions that a Devil Fruit awakening occurs when a user’s mind and body catches up to their power. Kaido talks about how both he and Luffy have lost a lot of people through the battling, but Luffy isn’t trying to hear all of that. The fighting continues and Luffy pounds into Kaido, spinning like a ball and just being so free, like the badass that he is. All of a sudden, the smoke from the castle comes up, but that doesn’t stop the Fifth Emperor. Kaido tries to use a move called Demolition Gust, but Luffy launches off the ground and has an idea…

It seems that everyone is struggling with the fire burning everything around them, but luckily for them, Raizo has a plan to fix this! Before this, we see more perspectives of those dealing with the fires. Usopp tries to use Special Attack Green Star Sprinkler, but that burns up almost instantly while Sanji is protecting the Pleasure Hall ladies. Raizo and Jimbei prepare for this secret ninjutsu, and we get to see exactly what Raizo has been hyping up all this time.

Apparently, Raizo stored some of the water Zunesha spat out to bath himself (which since he’s a giant elephant, THAT’S A LOT) inside a scroll.

It’s called Ninpo: Scrolling Jutsu! The Elephant’s Bath. Jimbei uses Fish-Man Jiu-Jitsu Ocean Current Shoulder Throw to spread it across the entire castle. The fires start being washed out very quickly.

Yamato reminds Momo that if he doesn’t stop Onigashima with his Flame Clouds, the island will crash.

Lastly, The Fifth Emperor GRABS LIGHTING FROM THE SKY and drops down to Kaido.

What’s he going to do with it?!?!??!?

I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE MORE!

It's not everyone, but rather a single/group of trolls downvoting the episode ratings since the introduction of G5. Each episode has been consistently getting around 100-300 1/5 votes. Some people just cannot contain their jealousy.

This ep was good. But next one is going to be a filler like cant they just end wano already? I don't mean it in a bad way but this arc had been running almost since 2019. If they want to give us fillers they can after the arc ends. Like just put a 12-14 ep filler arc after wano but don't mess with the weekly canon eps.

I already knew that this one would be a manga filler but still the episode was disappointing because it gave Raizo hardly any screentime comparing to the flashbacks and the fire chases. Toei could've atleast given some Raizo filler and Raizo hype moments!

This literally was Raizo's episode and he wasn't the hero of 1073.

A shame Winbe and Raizo saving the day had to be part of such a lackluster episode.

The One Piece anime is what it is. Mid episodes have been a part since forever, especially prevalent during Wano. There were far worse stinkers. I dunno how Gear 5th was supposed to change the way of things. Obviously event watcher, haters and trolls wouldn't know, let alone care.
