| I am against making anything mandatory. School used to make us read a lot 'classical' novel from 19 century. I do not think anyone at that age was capable to understand any of the complex symbolism of this kind of literary fiction. It was a complete waste of time. I think I get literary analysis thing, because I am so smart and I also had separate special class on literary analysis done by Uni prof. Without my brains all that 19 century classic would get me nowhere. So I can say something like Everyone should watch Code Geass or Revolutionary Girl Utena or even my entire Symbolism Interest Stack. May be Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero as well. That has a lot of soul impact thing, if your soul works this way that is. Nothing has more soul impact that Code Geass for me. However most people would end up not getting anything out of it and it will be waste. This is a great list! For some reason, I was looking for "Planetes" in particular, wondering if it'd even be on the list and lo and behold it's there towards the bottom. I think there's only two that I'm seeing so far that I'd pass on, but for the most part, I'm seeing series and nodding my head in agreement (and I'm pleasantly surprised that "House of Five Leaves" is included). I'm proud of myself that I've seen a number of these (or plan to in regards to a couple), but there are a few series that I don't recognize and will have to look into. |

| I don't think one is enough, I can make a huge list right here (and because I'm a history nerd and did my research on which anime is very important & influential: Mobile Suit Gundam (important sci-fi real robot mecha anime) Super Dimension Fortress Macross (I considered that as important too) Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (I considered that anime to be very very important) Neon Genesis Evangelion (self-explanatory) Sailor Moon (self-explanatory) Cowboy Bebop (self-explanatory) Akira (self-explanatory) Ghost in the Shell 1995 film (self-explanatory) Megazone 23 (if I'm going to make Ghost in the Shell on the mandatory list, then I might as well add Megazone 23 into this too) Aura Battler Dunbine (if somebody going to watch Sword Art Online, or any recent Isekai anime, then I want to make Aura Battler Dunbine a mandatory anime for anyone that watch Isekai) Nausicca of the Valley of the Winds (that anime film is very important because of not only Hayao Miyazaki's first film, I want to show people that are used to watching animation on digital to know the beauty of cel animation) Dirty Pair (I considered that anime to be important, and I would make it mandatory for all humans to watch) Combattler V, Voltes V, & Daimos (I want people to know where Transformers got it's origin from) Space Runway Ideon (if you're going to make Evangelion mandatory, then I supposed it's fair to make Ideon be part of the mandatory list too) Space Pirate Captain Harlock (I've watched this anime and read the history and & significance of this franchise, I believe the 1978 anime and it's sequel/spin-off should be put on the mandatory list) Galaxy Express 999 (same reason as Captain Harlock) Robot Carnival (if you're going to watch Netflix's Love, Death, & Robots; you might as well make Robot Carnival be put on the mandatory list).
