The most overrated movie is Spirited Away.
I don't understood how it got an Oscar Award.

Oscar means shit all. Spirited away was a good movie, just overhyped in the west due to the whole oscar crap.

I would say................................... hmmm, not seen Your name or Koe no Katachi, so can't say anything about them yet.

Probably Akira. While the animation and everything was great. the movie itself was not one I would actively choose to rewatch. Nothing about it resonates with me. I hear the manga is alot better. But I still appreciate what Akira achieved.

Generally anime movies are like movies, you watch them and you either enjoy and rewatch or you watch and forget.

I want to eat your pancreas is like a less interesting, more mundame version of shigatsu. The plot twist at the end was superficial just like everything else in this anime. The story never attempted to tell something different or interesting. Seriously, I've rarely see an anime movie with less interesting ideas than this one.

- every Ghibli movie except Omoide no Marnie and Kaze Tachinu
- Akira (the manga is much better)
- Bunny Girl Senpai movie (simply appalling)

Each of Shinkai's movies.
And many other moe baits and crybaits.
People get blinded by pretty pictures and artificially forced emotions and refuse to see how bad/mid everything actually is.

I'll say Koe no Katachi.
I really like that movie, I gave an 8 if I'm not mistaken, but some people here think that this movie is the Japan's Godfather or 2001. They really believe that this movie is the best animated movie ever made in Japan.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

That gintama film was what reignited my interest in the franchise after it had died out around episode 100.
A gintama film that's actually boring and mediocre but is well regarded for some reason is the last one. Fuck that film.

That Bunny Girl Senpai was surely something. Other than that, Your Name, Silent Voice, Josee and pancreas but to be honest, it completely makes sense what's their appeal and why they are so highly rated.

ghost in the shell is just a bad adaptation of the masterpiece manga, I'm sorry anime onlys, it's the ugly truth. Oshii just added his random religious themes (and called it smart writing), made Major into a literal dull doll (and called it character development), mashed together 3 plot points from the manga (and called it mystery) and gave us the true manga ending out of nowhere as to not upset us even further.
The Puppeteer plot is one of the best stories ever created in SF, only to be ruined by Oshii.
Well, Kamiyama wasn't any better but at least he maintained the manga atmosphere to a degree, his original ideas for the Laughing Man and Kuze Hideo are to be applauded

The Violet Evergarden movie seemed overrated to me and was pretty much an extra extended episode with some melodrama at the end to make you tear up. I actually didn't care that much for the ending by the time it happened.

I don't watch many anime movies and when I do I usually think they're just okay at best. I feel like Nausicaä is extremely overrated. For me it seemed like just a checklist of Ghibli tropes and wasn't very interesting.

The recent release Josee, the Tiger and the Fish also was pretty mediocre. Everything that happened in it was super predictable and I never felt any sort of connection to the characters.

Perfect Blue. Satoshi Kon has done way better works that are way better written. The animation was garbage for its time, and it's not hard to figure out at all. Very disengaging to the audience.

Your Name.

Beautiful film, but its not the best thing in the world. I like it, but you have to admit it has some pretty big holes in its narrative that lead me to believe it was only half complete

Definitely Summer Wars and to quote someone several years ago, "I don't see what the big deal is about". Me neither!

I'm more interested in seeing Trigun Maximum getting adapted into movies. So yeah! Not interested in watching Summer Wars again. Even the Fafner movie or Heaven and Earth is easier to re-watch than that forgettable anime. More like some dweeb pandering hooey.

Sadly, I've rewatched it over 20 times and in all honesty showed it to my class in high school alongside Fist of the North Star, but everyone fell asleep on it, whereas they liked FOTNS better.

While FOTNS had it's one-liners and over the top violence...
AKIRA was a movie I re-watched to understand, plus the smooth animation and detail made it eyecandy with a kickass soundtrack.

I'm just one of those gnats who agrees to disagree, but I try to explain and understand at the same time.

So no offense.

None taken, we all enjoy what we enjoy. I've never really got into fist of the north star. the whole Mad Max like world wasn't really for me. But I can see the appeal. The whole "Your already dead" is still so memeable and relevent.

For me, any movie from Makoto Shinkai. The movies all have the same premise of "long distance relationships suck", often with a paranormal theme, and my main gripes with many of them is either the paranormal gimmick gets in the way of the relationship focus or the film dabbles too much into the emotional extremes of the relationship in question. At best, I'd find some of them decent, but nowhere near among the top anime films I've seen.

For me, it's probably Paprika. It's not bad... it's just okay. I personally think it would've worked better as a TV anime series where you could explore and expand the ideas, characters, and dream sequences a bit more.

Although it's the only Satoshi Kon movie that's licensed to sell in stores in my country. It doesn't warrant that - Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers are much more worthy, in my opinion.

For the record, I cannot stand that song that's in it - the one that sounds like someone is trying to yodel while holding their nose closed.

Most (not all) people here can be categorized in one of these two ways:

1. Ones who don't have enough of life experience to comprehend or to sympathize. They miss the point of the shows they mentioned, and therefore they call those shows shit
2. Ones that just hate popular show in general. I believe MAL calls this kind of people "elitists" or "gatekeepers"

I also believe that no one cares about what you hate or like if it's just the matter of your personal opinion. Don't even try to defame a show you don't even understand. Evidently, if a show is really bad, you'll know why. Consequently, if you don't know why, you're bad.

I definitely agree with you on Be Forever Yorozuya, it's easily one of the weakest entries in the Gintama series.

Kara no Kyoukai 3 and Zokuowarimonogatari are okay (6/10) but don't deserve their ratings on this site.

Burn the Witch is awful and doesn't even merit its 7.
